Kalahari Resorts & Conventions in the Poconos receives a varied response from guests, with some praising the comfortable bedding and festive atmosphere, while others are let down by outdated rooms and unpleasant odors. The resort's location is appreciated for its tranquility, though not all guests are enamored. While the water park is a hit, high costs and busy spaces are points of contention. Service quality is inconsistent, mixing positive interactions with frustration over inefficiency. Room opinions differ, as some commend the cleanliness and comfort, whereas others encounter maintenance and décor issues.

The second time we've brought our grand daughter for her birthday, this time she's 8 and we stayed in a two room suite with her and her parents. Giving them the room with the two queen beds and my wife and I took the king at the front, it worked fine, especially since each had a bathroom. Check in went fine and our room was ready in about a half hour at around 1:30. The room itself was clean and well stocked with towels and toiletries. Housekeeping does not service it unless you ask, but if you do they are prompt and efficient. We were on the lobby level which made unloading and loading the car easy.
We found that most if not all of the people roaming the hotel and common areas wore masks and tried to distance. Inside the water park was quite a different story though. That being said we never felt at risk since there was plenty of room to move and not many lines to wait in. We were able to find a table and chairs each morning since we got there early, but things did fill up by about noon. Crowded but not to the point of being a problem. The swim-up bars were open as well as the hot tubs, though the under 21 ones did have an attendant limiting the capacity.
We ate in both Sortinos and Double Cut and both meals were just great. We had reservations for both on Open Table and I highly recommend that since both places draw a large 'no reservation' crowd that can make for a wait.
As for expense, yeah, it's very pricey, but that shouldn't be a secret by now. The kids dropped serious coin in the arcade and drinks in the park are quite pricey for what they are, but overall it's well worth it as a birthday splurge. And contrary to some of the reviews I've read, the staff we dealt with was always polite and helpful, and the water in the pools and slides was clean and fairly warm. There was one shutdown on the kiddy slides due to and "accident" that lasted for about an hour while they cleaned and sanitized, but the lifeguards were diligent and polite about keeping kids off the area until cleaning was done.

We stayed in the room with bunk beds since we were bringing a 13 month old that goes to bed much earlier than we do. The space the bunk bed was in was tiny. It just fit the bed and the pack and play barely fit. This would have been fine had there either been a door or the sink were not in the hallway. I ended up brushing my teeth in the bathtub to avoid turning a light on and waking her up. The beds were not comfortable. I ended up sleeping in the bunk with my daughter one night and that was actually more comfortable than the queen size bed my husband and I had.
The cabana was somewhat worth the money. It was very expensive but it gave our daughter a space to decompress from all the people and things to look at. There’s a safe too so you can lock up your wallet and phone. It also avoided us searching for an empty table. There was a lot for her to see and do so that worked out well for us. You do have to walk through the arcade to get to the water park.
Overall, we took the stroller everywhere with no issue. It was extremely stroller friendly. Everyone that works there was helpful. Food was good but overpriced, not surprising really.

This is probably my 4th time here in the past 5 years. This was the first time during Covid. We got a 3 bedroom suite since we were with another family. Thought it was a great size and loved that it had 3 bathrooms.
We arrived at 10am on a friday and I was so impressed that our room was ready and they let us check in. Unfortunately when we got into the room, there was a big stain on the carpet that resembles poop or puke. Also the one fridge was filled with spilled milk and it had a rotten smell. We immediately called the front desk and they graciously changed our room immediately without any question.
Once in the waterpark, we were allowed to keep our masks off. It should be noted that the bar and food areas are closed for picking up your own drinks or food. You must sit at a table with a number on it to have a waitress take your order.
This didnt affect us since we got a cabana. This was the first time we got a hot tub cabana and boy was this awesome! Its so worth the money to have your own private hot tub in the cabana with you. Morgan, our waitress was amazing. She was there with drinks and food all day. Like typical waterpark food, it was not good, just stick to the pizza.
I see alot of people leaving bad reviews about the cleanliness of the rooms and yes i agree after seeing our first one. I understand the rooms are expensive but that price also includes everyone in the room access to the waterpark all day and night.
But at the end of the day, my kids love the waterpark and the arcade. So we will absolutely go back and always get a cabana.
Mask policy was very easy to handle

We really enjoyed our stay at Kalahari Pennsylvania location. My three kids between ages 7 and 14 had a blast. This was a surprised birthday gift for my son who turned 11 and said this was the best birthday ever!

Our room on the 3rd floor was clean. The waterpark itself is huge and also clean. We were there on a Wednesday so it wasn’t crowded which was great as there were no lines for the rides. The rides are a lot of fun and staff is friendly and helpful. There is a hot tub that goes between indoors and outdoors and was very enjoyable, especially when it started to snow a little bit.

We had lunch while at the waterpark and the food was good. The food is overpriced so we ate dinner at a nearby Thai restaurant, it was excellent.

My kids also had fun playing arcades. Our package included $100 credit for arcades, my 3 kids used that in one evening, they got to play many games.

We had a blast at Kalahari and plan to come again. I highly recommend taking kids here!

We arrived at 9:30am and checked in at the front desk, received passes and proceeded to our rented private cabana. 4pm called guest services to inquire about the readiness of our room, again at 5pm and 6pm. The room was not ready, this could have been overlooked as we expected delays to ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of our room and if we didn’t have a baby who needed a nap. 6:15, took all 12 of us to the front desk, given room number and made our way excitedly to our Penthouse suite. My husband and I are Hilton Diamond and Bob Voy platinum lifetime members, we expect to find a hair and some crumbs in our hotel room. We did not expect to find hair ties in the primary bath tub, hair clogging the drain of the secondary bathroom, partially eaten Rice Krispie treat in the sofa, blue fruit loops under the sofa, straw wrappers and crushed Pringle’s in the bedrooms, new clothing tags, dirty mirrors and windows, broken window blinds, missing remote control in the living room, and most disturbing was the egregious mold in the shower of the primary bathroom. The Kalahari commitment to clean policy clearly did not extend to the rooms, as there is no way that even a first time traveler could have overlooked these things. We invited the housekeeping manager to see it and took pictures to document how poor the cleanliness of the room was. I requested to be moved or refunded and allowed to leave, we were exhausted and hungry and did not want our experience to end, but would not compromise the health and safety of our family staying under these conditions and we left. We were prepared to spend the same money we do when we visit Disney, as a first time visitor and frequent traveler I was very disappointed and will share my experience with everyone who is considering a visit to the resort in the Poconos.

Pros
SPA staff friendly
SPA Covid-19 protocol followed
Great pizza
Overall theme

Cons
Overall cleanliness and wear of the room
Attention to detail of cleanliness in the water park, band aids littering the pool and floor, no one actively cleaning and sanitizing
Cleanliness of the bathroom indoor water park, littered with paper towel debris
Staff not empowered to resolve customer concerns

This was our 1st visit after many trips to Great Wolf. We arrived at noon, were greeted by a bellman. We decided to store our luggage. In hindsight I wouldn’t do that again unless it was extremely crowded. We checked in, ate lunch in the lobby (that we brought with us) after reading reviews I assumed we would encounter long checking lines and not get our room until later afternoon. No line at all and I received a text that our room was ready at 12:30. Booked a 2 bedroom suite. The room was very clean and well appointed. Enjoyed having 2 bedrooms/bathrooms. We hit the water park @2. Very clean water park and ample tables. The park was not crowded but it would be a nightmare if it was!! It’s huge and can fit a lot of people. Offers something for everyone. We really enjoyed the indoor/outdoor hot tub, the slides, wave pool and flow rider. The pool was a bit dangerous with the constant throwing of basketballs. My daughter among other were hit just standing there. The bathrooms/showers/changing rooms were all well maintained. The staff can’t help that some people refuse to clean up after themselves but they really do try. We had dinner at B Lux. The food was ok but pricy. The arcade was really fun and surprisingly not overpriced. Next day we hit the park again. Had a pizza and salad for lunch (not worth $60) next time I will bring our lunch. I saw a lot of families with small soft side coolers that brought lunch. Points of note. The resort is HUGE!!! Pack a bag with your swimsuits so you can enjoy the water park right away. They require a $400 deposit upon checkin on your card.

We will be returning!

As a family getaway we booked a Friday/Saturday stay over at Kahalari Pocono Manor for 6 adults and 1 child and 1 child under 3. We got the African Queen Suite which gave us access to the Water Park for all day Friday and all day Saturday. If we were to do day passes for both days it would have cost more than the suite which, to us, was a great deal. We also added on the Time for More Fun package so we got to check in at 2 instead of 4 and check out at 12 instead of 11 plus VIP parking. We were able to avoid check in lines with the Time for More Fun package and checked in with the concierge. When we arrived on Friday at 10:30 our room was already ready so we could settle in before going to the water park. But if our room wasn't ready they have a place to store your luggage until your room is ready. With 2 small children who would need naps by 2, the reason we got the package, this just made everything better. We didn't use the 12 checkout because we packed up around 10:00 to go to the water park and didn't plan to go back to the room. But this wasn't an issue either. We put most of our things in our cars but we were able to leave a bag with clothes to change into in the checking out luggage area. The water park had something for everyone, even me who is in a wheel chair. The wave pool had a water wheel chair that I went in and could go in up to a foot. There was also a pool and hot tub that was handicapped accessible. The pool had a lift, I didn't get to try it out.

My husband, daughter (10) and son (2) and I always go to Great Wolf Lodge for our mini getaways but this time decided to try the Kalahari. The only reason they did not get 1 star was because the staff I dealt with in the waterpark was so great. We arrived on a Saturday and check in was quick and the room was clean but dilapidated. For $400 per night, the rooms should be updated and not so beat up. We did enjoy the waterpark and cabana rental and the staff was nice and helpful there. Once the waterpark closed we ordered dinner at Blu and was told the wait was 40 minutes. Since this is take our service, you wait in the bar area for your food. I was one of 10 families that waited over 2.5 hours for their food to arrive. I ordered at 9:20 and was handed my food at 11:17 which was WRONG. No manager came around to apologize, the poor bar servers started going to the kitchen to box up the food (and I'm wondering if they were helping to cook as well). I felt bad for them. After complaining and asking what they were going to do, I was given a credit for my food and complementarity late check out the following day for my time (2:00 p.m.). Following this there was an issue with the room lock and my bracelet would not work again and again. After dealing with this issue for 45 minutes I asked for an additional hour to be added to our check-out (on a Monday). They simply said no, they couldn't do that. They could but it was not worth it to them. I asked to speak to the manager, she came out and was very rude implying it was probably my fault the door band quick working and didn't offer any apology for the food service. She gave me a couple game cards and said that was all they could do. So, after this I realized it's all about the dollar here. They do not care about your stay. They also oversell day passes to the waterpark, do not have the tables in the restaurants or pool set up for social distancing, it's not clean and you will not find people cleaning public areas regularly, if at all! The buffet does not have full glass down to keep people from touching and breathing on the food.
We were very careful with masks, sanitizer and distancing along with selections we made to keep our family safe but we will never go back there again. Great Wolf's waterpark may be a little smaller but it's not crowed, they are constantly cleaning public areas, friendly, and want to ensure you and all guests have a fun, comfortable stay. After 1 hour in the waterpark at Kalahari my daughter commented how much better Great Wolf is and cleaner! She's 10! Lastly, we took some grab and go food from the store to eat on the way home. Be sure to open your food before you leave because it was moldy. That was the icing on the cake!

I went to Kalahari where I go at least twice a year. So when they advised me the hotel would only be a 25% capacity because of COVID-19 precautions, I thought great I'll have a good time for Father's Day with my kids, no lines, clean and Covid free. WRONG! I got there at 2pm and had to wait online for at least twenty minutes. My husband showed up with the kids and all the luggage only for me to have to tell him to bring it all back to the car because we couldn't check in yet and they wouldn't store our luggage. They did not allow me to check in early because they said they have to do extra cleaning on the rooms. Ok I can deal with that. 4:00 no room. 5:00 no room finally at 5:47 is when I got the text the room was ready. 2. What they cleaned is beyond me. Public bathrooms were filthy - see picture. The room seemed clean but not Covid clean. I sprayed and cleaned the counter tops and bathroom myself because it looked dusted but not cleaned. The water park had dirty towels everywhere including the stairs 3. At 25% capacity they said all the restaurants were full to capacity and you must have a reservation which I never needed before and was not informed of at time of booking or check in. 5. I asked if I could have a later check out since I only had the room from basically 6pm and was told yes only if I paid 4. I checked out and went halfway home when I realized I had left my $2k laptop in the drawer in my room. I called kalahari and they said no one returned it and that there's a guest in the room and housekeeping didn't have it. After speaking to 2 hotel supervisors they refused to help me and would not check the room. They were not sympathetic or seemed to honestly care. They only took my name down in case it turned up. They did not have me file a report or anything and said they would call me back that night to do so but I have not heard back from anyone. I drove back there and after receiving no help from staff went to the room myself and knocked on the door where a very nice woman said go ahead and look for the laptop. It was right where I left it. So much for doing thorough cleaning. The woman was as shocked as I was to realize her room was not properly cleaned or housekeeping would of found it.
This experience has soured me on kalahari and do not think I will be going back unless changes are made to kalahari practices especially cleaning and staff assistance. The customer service I received from the supervisors was completely absent. DON'T jeopardize you and your families safety to have some fun. Social distancing is not being practiced anywhere at the resort, It's not worth your life if you get Covid-19!

The place is huge, it’s both indoor and outdoor so you don’t have to worry about the weather. Your kids will have a great time. My only complaint is it’s a bit expensive and food is not included, not even breakfast. The 1st night we paid $100 for dinner
buffet for me, my husband and 2 kids. The next day we decided to get outside Chinese food for dinner. If you’re trying to save money on dining and you don’t mind driving around they have lot of choices within 20 mn or less including Mac Donald, chick fillet, Wendys, a few diners, few pizza places including Domino’s, Panera bread, Olive Garden, a Hibachi place, Friendly’s, few Chinese food restaurants and even Jamaican/ Caribbean restaurants. We ate breakfast in outside dinners. I recommend the scotrun Diner which is about 12 mn away. Food is not bad and prices reasonable. We paid about $40 for me, my husband and 2 small kids. If you have small kids i would suggest you bring snacks and bottled water bc Kalahari’s marketplace is a bit expensive. If you forget snacks, don’t worry, they have a Walmart nearby that even sell fresh food/ fruits. They have a microwave and a small fridge in the room so you can bring any microwaveable food.
They don’t allow outside food inside the actual waterpark ( a way to make money) bc they sell many food there so make sure you eat before entering. i was able to sneak in some snacks for the kids but beware they will search your belongings.
Outdoor food is allowed in your room, so you get options if you don’t want to spend a lot In dining.
I didn’t get housekeeping room service I think bc of COVID-19 but when I called guest service i got whatever i needed like extra towels, extra linens, a vacuum to clean my room bc the kids made a mess with their food 😬😬.
Besides the dining and pricing , I think it’s a great water park, they say its the biggest in US. You will have a great time but if you’re trying to save money be smart before you go, and look for things to do around.
