Stone House is the newest addition to the Newport Experience collection of properties. Stone House is a seaside resort in the quaint, farming community of Little Compton, RI, sitting on 2.7 acres near the tip of Sakonnet Point. The original four-story building was constructed in 1854 as a private residence and was once home to David Sisson and his son, Henry Sisson, a civil war hero. It was converted to an inn during the 1920s and an old tap room remains in the basement that was once a speakeasy during the Prohibition. The property features spacious and well-appointed guest rooms and suites and beach access. There is also a renovated barn on the grounds that features guest rooms, a ground floor outdoor terrace and gorgeous water views.

Stayed here 2 nights for a bday , beautiful property but grossly overpriced for what is provided, needs a lot of maintenance work , shades and fireplaces not functional, cheap amenities and towels etc. That being said , Olivia, Nick and the housekeeping staff could not have been better given their limited resources. Clearly the group they are associated with is trying to bleed this for all they can. At this price point I’d expect much more in terms of quality, the complimentary nightly hordourves consisted of reheated frozen soup and and a 25 minute drive to any decent restaurant this is problematic. In short , great location , devoted staff but lacking the commitment on the part of ownership to deliver the amenities that should be provided for the price charged .

The setting is a ten, views are special. The nightly fee would suggest a four star and it is more of a two (maybe a three) for their lovely staff. A partially renovated ( only in “barn”)old historic stone house converted to a mess of different size awkward rooms in main House and renovated Motel 6 type level rooms in their “ barn”. Given they are only game in town they can afford to raise rates substantially, the view and proximity to shorelines are great, down right beautiful but it is criminal what they are charging even if you can because it indicates a different experience. No question, the nice staff makes up partially for the lack of amenities and the dreary dated and musty rooms; but they can do only so much. The main house is laden with heavily stucco walls painted and repainted in a drab color, the stairs are extremely steep ( dangerous and circular) and creaky. The rooms have very old commercial carpet and the airconditioning is marginal. We tripped their system four times and our room could not get below 75 degrees at night. It finally just stopped working in the evening and there was no one there to attend to the issue. The furniture is old and the quality of a Bobs warehouse, not an elegant hotel. In fairness the bathrooms have been renovated in a home depot or ikea quality with deep tubs that would be impossible or dangerous to manage for an older person. They are clean. The beds are low and believed to be foam the furniture is very low grade made solely of partical board not real wood. Their pillows are old and very large, old stuff and hard to sleep on.... There are no overhead lights in bedrooms. The florecent lights along with huge exit neon signs create a terrible atmosphere in hallways on the interior of the room. There was no fan in bathrooms. No proper closet only a cut out in hall with an old burgundy and gold curtain containing a bar and a fan and a ironing board. Awkward . The breakfast were thorough and what you might see at a comfort inn. Hard boiled eggs small, box cereal and yoplait yogurts. The pluses were the cold bottles of water in the lobby along with the hot croissants. Sadly the coffee was weak bit plentiful and other options are 20 mins away. It's a bit of a catch 22 and they know it. If you need to be near Little Compton you don't have an option but to rent a house.. I don't think they should take such egregious advantage unless they renovate and get better amenities like farm to table foods, bath goods from a higher brand than cvs, replace commercial dirty carpets, Paint everything, easier access to rooms aka new stairs, closets installed in bedrooms, airconditioning that works. If you book stay the barn is cleaner and more up to date. Area rugs were purchased in the last ten years let's say and overall more open clean and comfortable. Their suites run 1000 and their room 500 and not what you would expect for that pricing. A missed opportunity for a great hotelier to make this location a real find with proper protocols and level of service for their rates. The views are a ten the outside chairs are their best feature but you can't sleep there. I look forward to the owners putting some of their profits into a major renovation. I would happily go back!

The Stone House Inn is situated in a gorgeous location, beautiful natural surroundings tucked away from any bustle. Our room was amazing, with a screened in balcony that overlooked both a pond and the ocean., and we could could hear the waves. The room also was decorated beautifully and featured a deep soaking tub, fireplace, super comfy bed and sitting area. A rare find of luxury without the hype that usually goes along with it. And Nick, performed his many duties (host, tour guide, conversationalist) exceptionally, going above and beyond with filling any and all requests.

There has never been a better experience in my life when it comes to guest service. I planned a birthday event for 10 girls and Nick and team went above and beyond. Not only did Nick help me organize a private dinner and lunch but his attention to our needs was amazing. The girls are still raving about it. They felt so special and that was really what it was all about! Thank you Nick and everyone at The Stone House because of you I had a great birthday and experience.

We stayed 1 night with family for a nice quiet get away. We enjoyed the charming and cozy accommodations in our oversized sweet with a gas fireplace . The staff was courteous and friendly . The weather was perfect for a short walk to the beach and than hanging out in the Adirondack chairs on the impeccable grounds . Will definitely visit again and would recommend to family and friends !!
