4.11.21 After waiting since 2 PM, at 7PM we were finally given keys to our room. Complacent, smarmy front desk staff. Beautiful hotel, great location, terrible service, run poorly. Off of our list for a return trip!
We decided to splurge and treat ourselves to the four star Francis Marion historic hotel. The hotel is a short walking distance to wonderful restaurants, quaint shops, and interesting row homes dating back to the 17th century. The staff at the hotel treated us like royalty and made us feel welcome like we were family. Their exemplary service included a surprise amenity delivered to our room, a birthday card from Michael (the bellman wishing us a happy birthday). Another big plus was our room had a spectacular view of the harbor and a brilliant morning sunrise. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant called the Swamp Fox. Shawn (the bartender) had great choices of local draft beer and told us his shrimp & grits was as good as any in Charleston. Shawn was 100% right about how good the food was at the Swamp Fox. We loved the shrimp & grits. The next morning we had breakfast at the Swamp Fox and told our server Sylvie it was Angela's birthday. Sylvie was so energetic to make sure our breakfast was a great experience and at the end of our meal she gave us chocolate covered strawberries with a birthday candle and sang happy birthday to Angela in her great french accent. Our experience staying at the Francis Marion hotel was totally enjoyable, and one we will always remember. Neil, at the front desk when checking us out, said it perfectly when I asked him who were some of the most famous people that stayed at your hotel and he said Elvis Presley and you. Sincerely, Tim & Angela …
'Was here for a girls trip for a few days last week. The hotel is beautiful and the staff are friendly and amazing. The room itself was plenty big, but the bathroom is very small. However; the walk in closet is HUGE! The beds and linens were some of the most comfortable I've ever slept in. The towels were big and fluffy and replaced every day. A few covid things - no real glass cups for water or coffee - just the cheap plastic stuff. Be sure to visit the in hotel restaurant - The Swamp Fox. The meals are reasonably priced and the portions are very large. You are located right on King Street so you're in the middle of all the action - restaurants, clubs, shops. Great place to stay!
We just stayed here for a night after a late flight from the West Coast. Check in was easy and the staff was lovely. The lobby is absolutely gorgeous. We were upgraded to a suite on the 12th floor with an amazing view, kitchenette, and washer and dryer. Weirdly, no dishes or utensils in the kitchen, not an issue for our one night it just seemed strange. We had originally booked 2 queens since we were traveling with our 9 yo son. The suite had a pull out couch, but no bedding that we could find. The mattress on the pull out felt pretty horrible, even for a 9 yo, so we just opted to all pile in to the king sized bed instead of calling down for bedding. The location was outstanding, right on King's street.
We had a suite on the 11th floor because we needed two bedrooms. Room 1100 offered a fabulous view on two sides of King Street and the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge. The suite came with a King Size bed and a sofa in another room where our son slept. For two mornings we had breakfast in our room. The food always arrived fast and hot. We stayed here several years ago and hope to return.
