We felt most welcomed at the Inn by Ceecee ang Mike. The staff took care of all our needs, and our dog, LuLu,was very happy to receive treats in our comfortable Carriage room. Breakfast was lovely served at the courtyard. Ms. Mary's grits are to die for!

I had the opportunity to spend two days and one night at this exceptional B&B in Charleston. My room was large, bright, spotlessly clean and had a wonderful new bath with an extra large marble shower with rain head. I had an excellent breakfast in the quiet courtyard. Staff was exceptionally welcoming and helpful during my stay.

In August, we stayed at the John Rutledge House Inn and we had a Main House Grand Suite. The room was so much bigger than I imagined. It was perfect! I loved the high ceilings and fantastic windows. The only thing that would have made this room better was a tub, but the shower was very nice. The breakfast was...

This was one of the nicest bed and breakfasts we've ever stayed at. Room 7 ran the entire length of the house with 2 fireplaces; one in the bedroom and the other in the separate living room area. Breakfast each day can be had in the Ballroom, outdoor patio, or your bedroom. Sherry is available all day. Breakfast was good...

This Inn was very good indeed. We enjoyed particularly the complimentary afternoon tea and evening drinks. The staff were very friendly and gave us good recommendations. The downsides were the slightly disappointing breakfast (toast cold and flabby and cooked option tepid) and for the money and high room standard we would have expected a bath tub as well as a...

This is going to sound like we work for the rutledge inn, I promise we don't, it was just that good. Visiting from Boston for a wedding, we stumbled upon the rutledge inn. Unbelievable service. Ridiculous history. Beautiful rooms, great (temper) beds, amazing free full breakfasts. They bent over backwards to make our stay perfect. We've seen 4 hotels in...

Charming B&B. Breakfast in the Courtyard was special. Staff was especially helpful. Afternoon Tea and complimentary port & sherry were of another era. Very nice. We will most definitely return on our next trip to Charleston.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
America's Most Historic Inn. John Rutledge, one of the fifty-five signers of the U.S. Constitution, built his home in 1763. Now exquisitely restored, it is one of only fifteen homes belonging to those signers to survive - and the only one to now accommodate overnight hotel guests. History records that George Washington called here in 1791. An entry in his diary shows a breakfast with Mrs. Rutledge. A loving rejuvenation has restored the beautiful details of the home's 18th and 19th century architecture: the elaborately carved Italian marble fireplaces, the original plaster moldings, the inlaid floors and the graceful ironwork. The John Rutledge House Inn offers nineteen guest rooms within a complex of three buildings. One may choose between the elegance of rooms and spacious suites in the original grand residence or the charm and seclusion of rooms in the inn's two carriage houses. Antiques and historically accurate reproductions give each room its own warmth and distinction. John Rutledge House Inn is proud to be a founding hotel in Historic Hotels of America, as well as Select Registry - Distinguished Inns of America and Classic Inns of the South. Guests may leave cars parked on-site for their entire stay because the best of this beautiful port city is just beyond the doors of the John Rutledge House Inn. The city's finest restaurants, theaters, shops, and the Old City Market are all in short walking distance. The gorgeous residential area "South of Broad" begins directly opposite the Inn. A stay in this elegant antebellum bed and breakfast offers the opportunity to experience history as well as the warm hospitality for which the South is justly famous. ... more   less
