The good: 1) the location is outstanding - right in the middle of everything, 2) the continental breakfast was more than adequate to meet our morning hunger pains, and a special shout-out to Takia who has an absolutely amazing memory for the orders of her breakfast customers, 3) the wi-fi worked well and was free, 4) it's a cool historic... Imagine waking up in one of the country's most charming cities...walking out your door and being in the center of the finest street. Staying here was wonderful, from the served-to-you Continental breakfast to the 5 p.m. wine and cheese break, to the picturesque courtyard, stately lobby, and the friendly, helpful staff (callouts to Wyatt and intern Anthony). Our room was... More

We arrived early so the concierge kept our luggage until our rooms were ready. The lobby is very quaint and thank goodness air conditioned to give relief from the heat and humidity. They also have a few courtyards that are great to sit around and hang out. Our room was nice with a lace canopy bed, original hardwood floors, and... More

I had a difficult time finding a hotel in downtown Charleston that was neither a chain nor high-priced luxury. King's finally fit the bill. The staff was informal and pleasant; the facility was clean yet had character; the location was walking distance to everything I was there for. I'm looking forward to visiting again! Only minor issue was the table... More

This one of the nicest hotels I ever stayed at. The hotel is very charming, the rooms are very nicely decorated, the beds are really great to sleep in, the airco is bliss for europeans not used to the heat and the service is perfect! On top of that the hotel is very well located, includes free coffee in the... More

Your impression of the Kings Courtyard Inn is exactly what we hope every one of our guests takes away with them when they leave the inn. I am glad you enjoyed the inns’ many complimentary amenities like the morning coffee, complimentary breakfast and the afternoon wine and cheese hour. We love to offer these things to our guests. We had a lovely time at the Kings Courtyard on a recent ladies trip to Charleston. The entire staff was full of Southern Hospitality. The hotel is very centrally located, with accessible parking. Each evening we enjoyed the complimentary wine and cheese, relaxing in the courtyard after a busy day. However, we were a little disappointed that the white wine... More

We enjoyed our stay. Great room and a pleasant staff. Perfect location in the center of the city. We enjoyed the wine hour before going out to dinner and the glass of sherry in the evening. It was nice to have parking at a reasonable price, but because of the central location we never needed our car. Highly recommend.

Bed and Breakfast feel with all of the benefits of being a larger hotel. The beautiful inn is right on Kings street, walking distance to everything you'd want to explore in Charleston. This was our second time at the Kings Courtyard Inn. Our room was lovely with a four poster bed, a fireplace (for cooler weather) and a very nice bathroom. Reasonably-priced hotels in downtown Charleston are not easy to find, but Kings Courtyard was a good choice. Hidden off a brick alleyway, the old-world Southern ambiance is like being on the set of "A Streetcar Named Desire." Charming decor, comfortable rooms, and helpful desk staff made our stay relaxing and enjoyable. Their restaurant recommendations were right on, and they were... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Built in 1853, Kings Courtyard Inn is one of downtown Charleston, South Carolina's most historic inns. Architect Francis D. Lee designed the three-story antebellum structure in the Greek revival style with unusual Egyptian detail. The building is one of King Street's largest and oldest structures, and has had many uses during its 150 year existence. The building has housed high quality shops, private residences and at one time, the upper floors served as hotel rooms for plantation owners, shipping interests and merchant guests. Kings Courtyard Inn is located in the heart of Charleston's historic district. The Inn maintains the residential atmosphere of lower King Street, and extreme care has been taken to ensure the necessary architectural and historic accuracy for which Charleston is famous. Each of the rooms has an individual distinction. All rooms feature oversized beds- some have canopied beds and fireplaces. Many rooms boast excellent views of the inn's interior courtyards. All hotel guests receive complimentary sherry on arrival and a morning newspaper delivered to the room. They also receive a continental breakfast served each morning in their room, the courtyards, or in the breakfast room. Kings Courtyard Inn is within easy walking distance of Charleston's historic homes, gardens, churches and only a block away from the City Market. Here, one may explore interesting shops or enjoy a delicious meal at one of the city's many delightful restaurants. ... more   less
