I’m not an online reviewer. But my experience at this hotel compelled me to write something. Coined as a “boutique hotel,” this place is nothing more than an overpriced Days Inn. The restaurant is never open. The WiFi is shoddy. The rooms are loud. Despite multiple requests, I couldn’t get housekeeping to come to my room. When they did come, they didn’t even bother to clean the room. For the exceptional price I paid, I was expecting exceptional service and quality. I didn’t even get a fraction of that. Will not return.

From the moment we arrive, the staff is very attentive, helpful, and happy to see us. The rooms are always meticulously clean and lovely. Dinner at Peninsula Grill is always perfect. Even in this Covid environment, we felt very safe, and the staff took every precaution to keep us safe. Room service breakfast was quick and absolutely delicious! We have never had a less than perfect experience at Planter’s Inn!

We stayed in Charleston for a special occasion. The restaurant, food and service were exceptional. The customer experience with the property was less than what we expected from a luxury hotel. We understand the hotel is under new management. Our room was missing the knob to operate the lights, the chair in the room had a large water stain on it and one of the beds had a used glass from a prior guest under the bed. We had changed our original date/reservation due to health reasons and ended up booking directly with the hotel at a significantly higher rate than our original rate and third party rates. We ran out of shampoo and were not checked on during our two night stay. We addressed our concerns after our stay and we were offered a luxury room and competitive rate on our next stay. We will not be back as that is what we thought we signed up for the first time! There are so many wonderful places to stay in Charleston and we will choose wisely in the future!

Positives - The hotel is in a perfect location. The staff are friendly and helpful. The room was large, ample and quiet. We had a problem with a clogged sink upon arrival that was addressed quickly while we were away at dinner. Corey, the bartender in the Peninsula Grill, was nice to talk to and he was clearly in command of the bar handling both food orders while making excellent mixed drinks! Their famed coconut cake is certainly is worth the hype and shouldn’t be missed. Negatives - We used the valet service which runs 34$ a day; we never used it outside of arriving at the hotel and then leaving 3 days later. Given the hotel’s location everything is within walking distance. The parking lot for the valet cars is uncovered and more concerning was our car was left unlocked twice (alerted by our car app which we then had to lock remotely both times). I did inform the staff about this after the second time it was left unlocked but not sure it went any further than that. There is a nearby covered garage - Charleston Place with a Max daily rate on 18$ you may want to consider. Also no breakfast is included. All in all - we enjoyed our stay and would consider staying there again. Except next time without the valet service!

I booked a Piazza King room which is described as opening onto a sweeping terrace that overlooks Planters Inn hidden courtyard. INSTEAD, the room initially given to us was down a dark “alleyway” on the second floor and outside our door was the wall across the “outdoor hall”—no sweeping terrace unless you turned left out of the room and walked past another room onto the terrace area—definitely did NOT open onto the sweeping terrace. Additionally, the room was not especially clean. There was food or something dripped on the top of the writing desk. I am thinking someone had breakfast there and dripped and it was never cleaned. Never acceptable but especially during COVID when enhanced cleaning measures should be in place. Overall, will not stay here again—hear Wentworth mansion is beautiful with impeccable service so will stay there. Chose The Planter’s Inn, because we have always been extremely happy with Relais properties—not this time!
