Detailed Reviews
We stayed for three evenings and we were most pleased. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance (or free city shuttle service) to the majority of major sites. Conveniently located across the street from the Visitors Center, we were able to board tours and get tons of information. Upon check in, we were greeted by a welcoming front desk staff who efficiently checked us in and provided us with complimentary water. Our room was great. A nice, comfortable king bed in a well decorated and clean room with a fridge and microwave (note: not all rooms have these basic amenities yet but they are working on it). Parking the car was another story. There is a city owned parking garage right on the same property which is very convenient. The hotel charged us $30 an night but the 24 hour rate was only $18 if you just parked. You could save yourself enough money on a three night stay to have a nice lunch in the city! The hotel does not tell you this. The hotel provides 24 hour coffee and tea. The morning breakfast was beyond ample. A very nice selection of hot and cold food in a very appealing, large dining area. Our housekeeping service was top notch and available each day. So nice to come back after a long day to have the room in pristine condition with fresh linens/towels. During our stay, we made note of how very friendly the staff members were at all times.
The hotel is a busy one and is located on a very busy, load street noise corner which is beyond their control but should be noted. The area is very safe and walkable.
We are already looking at our next trip back to this wonderful city and will certainly be staying at this hotel again! I highly recommend this establishment!

This hotel is in the perfect location for downtown Charleston SC.
It is located at the corner of Meeting and John St. with the entrance on John to include the city garage entrance.
We checked in around 2pm without any problem and all of the staff that we encountered were both friendly and professional.
Parking was easy as we parked in a guest registration spot to unload our luggage and then entered the city garage a few yards away which was safe and secure with the hotel having a flat fee of $35 a day for in/out parking.
The lobby is well appointed as is the large outdoor courtyard that also has a pool and tables with umbrellas.
Our room was very clean with a king bed, desk/chair, dresser, etc. a sitting chair and a large wall mounted TV. No room for a refrigerator and microwave which was fine.
Breakfast was standard Hampton Inn fare which worked for us and there is 24 hour coffee/tea in the lobby as well.
There is an alley right next door that has four restaurants and a music hall that has some interesting shows advertised.
King Street which is a shopping and restaurant area is right down the block.
Lastly our room on the third floor facing East and downtown was very quiet which is a big plus for city hotels.
On our next Charleston visit this hotel will be our home base.

The room was typical in the downtown Charleston Hilton properties that it needed a good cleaning and refresh of furnishings but the location was great and the price was okay, the staff was friendly and very helpful with a fire that broke out in a 5th floor closet. Nobody was injured thankfully but it did cause the AC, wifi and elevators to shut down so the front desk staff were quick to make other arrangements for anyone who wanted to leave the hotel. The entire staff handled things so efficiently and professionally, they found us another hotel as requested in Mt. Pleasant, a new Embassy Suites, beautiful hotel close to the Ravenel Bridge and paid for our transportation to get there, they were super nice people to go the extra mile.

The location is great-walking distance to historic sites, waterfront, and fabulous restaurants. We appreciated having the parking garage because a lot of streets flooded due to heavy rains the night we arrived. On the other hand, the room was musty, the furniture was old (not in a good way) and it didn’t feel particularly clean. We opted for better breakfast spots so I can’t review the food. It is overpriced for what you get but the location is good and they are clearly relying on their location to fill the rooms.

I stay in hotels 50+ nights a year. I think room 117 may take the cake as the worst room ever. It’s located pretty much directly IN THE LOBBY. Not exaggerating.
After 1.5 hrs laying in bed convincing myself it would be worse to have to change rooms vs than suffer it out - I finally moved rooms at 10pm. Even after I explained why I needed a new room (no apologies or concern shown) I was moved to a room on an upper floor (right next to the elevator). When I checked in, a guest was raising his concern that when he and his wife returned to their room today - the door was not closed all the way. His wife was currently in their room checking for their belongings including her jewelry. The front desk informed him that HVAC techs had gone into every room on that floor today to clean venting. No apology for not letting him know, and not securing the door. Needless to say - this will be my last stay here. Make sure to avoid the rooms in the lobby if you stay here.

I chose this hotel due to its excellent location which met all expectations. It is located on John Street, off Meeting Street, and directly opposite the Visitor Centre which is the starting point for tour buses and the free hop on/off DASH shuttle buses operating 3 routes in the city. Parking is in the multi storey car park next to the hotel off John Street. The hotel recommended we pulled up outside and unloaded luggage before parking. Reception will exchange your parking ticket for a discounted card which is then scanned and deposited in a box at the exit barrier on departure. The cost is not cheap but secure, overnight parking in the city seems very limited and we felt it worthwhile for the convenience. In fact, as the city is very walkable and the DASH buses gave a good service, we did not need to use the car during our visit.
The reception staff were welcoming and we were able to check in early. Our room was spacious and clean with comfortable beds. Free hot beverages are available in the lobby area. Breakfast is also held in this area and was sufficient but menu options are limited by
the space available. In our view any shortcomings are more than overcome by the hotel's prime location.

We stayed here recently for 3 nights. The location is brilliant for walking to the restaurants, market street shopping, bus tours from the Charleston visitors centre, aquarium, boat trips and easy trip to Patriots point.
However the hotel is a little tired in fact parts need to be redecorated and updated.
The receptionists were helpful and attentive and and recognised the Hilton Honors membership.
Our room on the 5th floor was plenty big enough but the bathroom was small and in need of some work particularly in the shower cubicle. The king bed was comfortable and there was plenty of space with 2 comfy chairs TV etc.
They had a policy of they didn’t refresh the room and towels etc unless you requested it ! Not sure why unless it was an issue with the pandemic(covid) but no one seemed to be wearing masks!
The breakfast is typical Hampton inn , personally I don’t find it great but others seemed perfectly happy. Just a point of note when there is a coach party staying try and avoid breakfast until after they leave as we ended up sitting outside on wet chairs.
The car park which is a multi-storey works well with the hotel giving you a ‘Pass’ to go in and out and charge accordingly.
There is a small area by the entrance to the hotel for drop off and pick up. It appeared some people or possibly staff were parking in the drop off bays for a long period of time, which was annoying as the area is not large.
We would stay here again as the location is particularly good, but it needs to be redecorated in places.

We chose this hotel based upon comments we read on Trip Advisor but mostly for its location across from the Visitor Center. We did not rent a car so this was a very convenient location for leaving on booked tours as well as using the Carta DashTrolley which has scheduled stops across the street. We enjoyed the breakfast and felt there was a variety of foods offered both hot and cold. As there is no housecleaning of rooms we requested fresh towels at the desk each morning. The staff was quick to provide whatever you needed. As a note housekeeping is available upon request. Our only complaint, and we knew this in advance, was that the room rate doubled for our Friday night stay.

+1

I was excited to be staying at a hotel with such a great central location. Unfortunately, location is the only good thing I can say about this hotel. Please, please, do more research and book somewhere else if you are considering this hotel.
Before our arrival, the hotel staff had been texting me asking about our arrival time and check in. They also had an option to let them know what time you are arriving via their app, which I did along with the check in process within the app. When we arrived, we were given room keys to a third floor room and made our way upstairs. As soon as the elevator doors opened, we were greeted by a massive black tarp covering the wall and large industrial fans. This was to clean up from the hurricane that had happened in September, and our stay was in November. When we got to our room, I used the hotel key provided by the front desk to open the door. When I opened the door, it was clear that this room was occupied. There was luggage in the corner. I immediately called the front desk, who told us to come back downstairs. I mentioned that our luggage was heavy, but she offered no help to bring our luggage back downstairs so that we could address the room issue.
When we got downstairs, the manager had been called to the desk, but she barely looked up from the computer or apologized for the room issue. What if there were people in the room when I entered? They would have been terrified. And still, they have no idea that other people were in the room with their luggage while they were not there. This is a clear safety issue and privacy violation.
While I understand accidents happen, the hotel staff then tried to blame the situation on the in-app check in - saying I must have opted for a digital key? They took no responsibility whatsoever. They asked if I entered the room using a digital key, but again I did not have a digital key, only the key provided to me from the front desk 10 minutes prior to all of this. I'm still not sure how a digital key would have been an issue - the issue is they booked two different families in the same room. I have never been treated so rudely by hotel staff, never mind being treated this way after a mistake of this level.
We got a new key for a room on the second floor, also still covered largely by tarps and loud industrial fans. We did ask for a room further away from the noise, and were told by the manager herself "it's the whole hotel." Immediately upon entering the room it smelled of mildew. There was black mold all over the bathroom, common places that were covered in dust, and a broken tv. We did receive new batteries for the tv remote, but that did not fix the issue and there was no other solution provided. The room was so bad we honestly looked at nearby hotels so we could leave, but there wasn't availability on such short notice.
I truly regret booking this hotel but hope this review can save at least one other family from breathing in mold for their whole trip.

No, there are a few spots for unloading but the overnight parking is all covered.
