We are locals and stay downtown often trying out new stays. Our daughter and boyfriend flew in so we wanted to SUPRISE them with a stay downtown. It was also their anniversary so I wanted it to be special. I booked this through a third party but that wasn’t the issue. Since there is no front desk and it’s all self check in, we received a code through email to unlock the door. Apparently, the code through email wasn’t correct. I had to call and correct to get in. I also messaged them to ask if they did anything special since it was their Anniversary. She responded yes and that they could have a bottle of wine and a candle in the room waiting. Well, there was no wine or candle so I was disappointed they even offered. This was a 2 bedroom, 2 bath small apartment with a full kitchen. Despite the bedrooms not having any windows I have no complaints about the room or the location. Right near Waterfront Park but super quiet once entering. I just believe that communication with guests, since there is only self check in, should be exceptional instead of sub par. Despite that, we would definitely stay again…
Beautiful hotel, staff very friendly and accommodating. Michael was especially helpful and made our stay very enjoyable. Robert as the bartender was wonderful also. Definitely want to return to the Vendue on our next trip to Charleston. Carol
We should have stayed at a real hotel instead of here. The rooms at The Gentry are beautiful, clean, and well located but there's no onsite service and they do not answer the emergency ph # provided. It is expensive here, and I paid with the expectation of good service and a warm room at minimum, especially since it was cold and rainy outside. With the issues we experienced, customer service could have made all the difference. Some understanding or pro-active effort or recompense would have allowed us to leave satisfied. Service issues: 1. We did not receive check in instructions. Luckily I called before the normal phones closed at 8 pm and requested them. 2. The instructions said to park in a specific lot w/ a daily rate. There is no daily rate I discovered at leaving, and the by hour rate is higher than The Gentry told us. 3. The room temperature was in the 50s. The heater did not work. The Wifi did not work. We had looked forward to watching Netflix. 4. After waiting for 45 min and room not warming I called the emergency #. No answer. I left mssg. I called back an hour later (11:15 by this time). Left mssg asking if we could change rooms. Good thing it wasn't a more severe emergency! 5. A guy called back and said no one else had complained about heat or Wifi. He said we could switch rooms and gave me the entry code. It did not work. 6. At midnight he asked if I wanted him to come over and let us into the other room. I hesitated, because it was way past my bedtime and maybe I could sleep with head under blankets? I asked him if the other room was warm. He said yes so I agreed. 7. It was warmer in the hallway than in our room (the old room and new room). New room was 60 degrees. The guy asked if I wanted him to go get his laptop and fix the Wifi. I did not like being placed in the position, once again, of asking for things to be made right. And I needed to go to sleep! Within 30 min the rooms were warm so we slept at 12:45 am. 8. I called the office the next morning. The man said it was a cold snap so no one had turned on heat in the room. He offered no recompense. He said he would talk to the guy from the night before, as if this was his fault. The man at the office did not appear to accept any responsibility. The experience ruined our Charleston visit. I would have expected the manager to offer us something- $ back? Another nights stay? A later check out? Good customer service is not having to ask for things. It felt as if the responsibility to make things right was mine, every step of the way. We are tired now and glad to be leaving. …
We love the Vendue. The Vendue not only has great accommodations but they have friendly service and are centrally located to everything you can ask for in downtown Charleston. The rooms are quaint and have a lot of character. My kids loved the fresh baked cookies and milk in the evening. We have stayed here twice and highly recommend this to a couple on their honeymoon to families on vacation.
This hotel is in the perfect location for exploring Charleston. There were two king size bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a full kitchen with essentials for cooking. The living room and 2 bedrooms had a very large large TV. There is plenty of room for 2 couples to share the suite and maintain privacy.
