Super cute hotel in the perfect location to walk to everything. Short walk to City Market and King Street. Has a restaurant and bar on property. We did not get to use the pool as it was cold but looks like it’ll be a fun party during the summer. Parking is valet only, which is pricy ($53/night) but all hotels require valet near the historic district. Clayton, who runs the valet, was great! So personable and gave great recommendations. We had a room on the 4th floor, and if you have mobility issues or even kids/strollers I highly recommend NOT getting a room on the 4th floor as it requires 2 different elevators to get to. That was a minor annoyance for us but it didn’t ruin the vacation.

Thank you for your detailed review! We're delighted you found our hotel cute and enjoyed the perfect location for exploring Charleston. It’s great to hear you appreciated our restaurant and bar, and we’re glad Clayton provided excellent service during your stay. We appreciate your feedback regarding the 4th-floor access and will certainly keep that in mind for future guests. We hope to welcome you back soon, perhaps in warmer weather to enjoy the pool!

From the moment you walk in the door of this modern charming hotel in the historic district of Charleston you feel the friendly warmth of the City. Sarah and Caroline were at the front desk providing a speedy checkin, welcome drinks and recommendations to make our stay here so fun. The rooms are clean and charming. The second floor bar and pool area were decorated for a classy but funky Christmas. There was even an ice rink and skates to rent on the other side. The whole experience was a pleasant surprise!

Whenever I’m on a work trip I stay at the Ryder to be close to downtown area, and really because I so adore this hotel. But today was more special than most because Adrine at the front desk really went above and beyond. It was such a simple gesture but so rewarding! I came down for my pick up time earlier than usual because I had messed up the timing, so I had about an hour extra to kill. Instead of walking back to my room, Adrine suggested he watch over my belongings and I check out the Art Gallery that’s around the block of the Ryder Hotel. Am I glad I listened to him! However what really stood out for me is when I returned to the hotel, Adrine was busy at the desk yet he took notice I returned a bit early. After taking care of guests that were checking in, he offered to make coffee for me! Who does that..? There is a coffee shop located inside the venue, though it’s usually closed during certain hours I could have very well purchased my own cuppa. No sweet Adrine went to get the office Kureg and made me a cup and brought my luggage he had been keeping safely for me. It was truly a pleasure to meet such kind, caring, professional, helpful individual who really knows how to go above and beyond with his gestures and actions. Kudos to Adrine for being so attentive to his guests, it really shows what a good fit he is at the Ryder.

This is a 3 star hotel, and that is exactly what I would say you get. The hotel is in a great location only one block away from King St where all the shopping is. It appears the hotel has recently changed their lobby layout, where the front desk is now upstairs.
The hotel room itself was clean, but the stairs leading up to the lobby need a deep clean as well as the carpets leading to the rooms.
The bed was fairly comfortable but if you don’t like collapsing feather pillows bring your own. The rooms could definitely benefit from a mini fridge or microwave, there is plenty of room for both in the room. There is a water bottle fill station and ice machine in the hall.
The showers could have been hotter, but as the week went on it appears the water heated up so I wonder if the construction they are doing on the hotel had something to do with that and maybe it was fixed mid-stay.
The Little Palm restaurant was cute, the glass of wine I had was basically skunked and of poor quality. I did not try the food but the restaurant is public which I did not know, so there are people who are not staying at the hotel that frequent the bar area. Some of them are locals who appear to frequent Little Palm and I noticed one was very disruptive to hotel guests and caused a scene at one point and was spoken to by a manager for being rude to hotel guests. It seems he knew everyone by name and because he is a frequent flyer he appeared to get away with calling young girls names.
Housekeeping could have done a better job of coming in daily to sweep and change trash. It was nearly $3,000 for 6 night stay and for that amount of money I would have expected daily housekeeping and to not have to ask the front desk to send someone to empty my trash and provide toilet paper. I do not think the money you pay to stay at this hotel is worth it. I think for what you get it is extremely overpriced. It is a cute boutique style hotel and one of the cheaper hotels in the area which is why they get away with this, but it’s lacking simple amenities for the costly price.
I honestly think it was a little over-rated and not sure if I would stay here again.

Our stay at The Ryder Hotel was a series of frustrating issues that no guest should experience, especially at over $500 a night. First, upon arrival, we found the staff indifferent and unwelcoming, which wasn’t a great start, but we chose to overlook it. When we got to our room, it was unbearably cold, so I set the thermostat to 74°F and left, hoping it would warm up. Hours later, it was still freezing. I called the front desk for an extra comforter, which was delivered. I then asked the attendant to take a look at the AC, but he just said he’d send someone to check it out. Half an hour went by without a response, so I followed up with the front desk, and they assured me a technician was on the way. An hour later, still no technician, and since it was so late, I told the front desk not to bother anymore. Only then, 10 minutes later, did someone arrive, disconnecting “cold water pipes” without any clear explanation. The next morning, I explained the issue to the front desk, who said they’d inspect the AC. Later, they called, informing us the AC indeed had a serious issue and moved us to a different room. But when I opened the bedding in the new room, I discovered the mattress and sheets were soaking wet. Disgusted, I called the front desk, went down personally insisting the manager see the condition for herself rather than simply send housekeeping to cover it up. The replacement room offered was right next to a loud patio, so we opted for a mattress swap instead. Throughout all of this, management was unapologetic and only offered compensation after I asked. To make matters worse, the shower in the new room had mold (photos attached). At checkout, we were hit with an undisclosed $35 daily amenity fee, which they waived given the terrible encounters but just be aware. This hotel lacks accountability and genuine care for its guests. Numerous reviews describe similar experiences, yet the hotel management’s replies appear copy-pasted and insincere. For those considering a stay, beware—this place is not worth it. The Ryder Hotel requires serious changes in its management approach, please do not stay here its terrible and not worth the price in fact not worth coming at all.

Good afternoon 480bellec. Thank you for sharing your experience with us regarding your most recent stay at The Ryder. I truly understand your frustrations regarding the accommodations you were provided during your stay, along with the lack of follow-up you received. As hoteliers we know that our entire success relies on meeting and hopefully exceeding our guests expectations and it is truly heartbreaking when we are fail at doing so. I hope that you will allow us the opportunity to provide you with the level of service you rightfully deserved on your next visit to Charleston and I hope that I can personally welcome you should you give us another chance.

At $350/night, a customer has a certain expectation for what a hotel should be. Unfortunately the Ryder Hotel did not meet that expectation. Upon arrival, we had to ask for a new room because ours was left poorly cleaned including stained towels. The rest of the hotel was in similar condition. The halls have severely stained carpets, the common areas are clearly worn, and the staff seems unfased. The pool service was also poor. The servers were rude and no one cared to clean up after the patrons who did not care to clean up after themselves. Another important note is that The Ryder is pet friendly. No hotel should be offering this amenity if they are not equipped to handle the additional cleaning and maintenance required. It seems the owners chose to spend money on frivolous things such as decorations, furnishings, and complementary coffee to cater to the Instagram crowd. Instead they should have invested in a staff that keeps their hotel in satisfactory condition, which in turn creates a much better experience for the guest. In summary, The Ryder Hotel is best described as a more on trend photogenic version of Days Inn or any other 2 star accommodation.

Overall the hotel was just okay and I will not be returning. The hotel hit us with a hidden $40 daily amenity fee. This was charged per night and brought the price of the stay up significantly due to these “hidden fees”. The rooms could use more cleaning and there was an item a guest left behind in our room. There seems like there are better places to stay in Charleston.

As three moms we were looking forward to a weekend away! When researching hotels we happened upon the Ryder Hotel. Southern living recommended the hotel and we decided to give it a chance. Upon arrival the valet service (especially Clayton) was amazing. We had a smooth check in process and the room was nice. However, today we were excited to spend the day at the pool. That was a perk to this hotel instead of others. The pool service opens at 11:00, and by 11:30 we were informed that the pool was shutting for several hours because they needed to add chemicals. The GM did come and address the issue with us. Then, we later learned that it happened the day before and tomorrow it is open to the public and we probably won’t have a chance to enjoy it. After making an alternate plan and heading to the beach for the day we return to our room to find that it had not been serviced. We had informed the housekeeping staff that we needed 10 minutes and then our room would be vacant. They never returned. When we called guest services to request towels, it took a long time for them to be delivered. Overall, for the amount we paid for a boutique hotel we have not received the service we would expect. (One nice perk is that we were able to use coolers provided by the hotel for our beach day).

We spent a girls' family weekend at The Ryder in late September 2024. I was extremely disappointed in everything. No. 1 - They charged me $164 per night more than what we were told we would pay when we booked. We have the emails, confirms, etc. to prove it. No one - not even the GM Irvin Dinkel will return our calls. No. 2 - the sink in our room was clogged. Housekeeping should have noticed this long before our stay because it had been 'brewing' for quite some time. No. 3 - like someone else stated, security is an issue because anyone can walk in. No. 4 - the hotel was filled with mosquitoes because they had all the doors open (after the rain from Hurricane Helene came through). No. 5 - there is no coffee maker in the room like they advertise. No. 6 - the exercise equipment was a yoga mat - big whoop. No. 7 - the menu at the restaurant is limited. No. 8 - a bottle of water cost $5. No. 9 - to get to the upper floors you have to go to the 2nd or 3rd floor, get off the elevator, and walk to the other end to get an elevator to go to the other floors. No. 10 - towels were OK - nothing soft & thick. This was most definitely not worth the $640 per night we were charged for a mediocre room that was not updated at all. I definitely do not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Very disappointed with this hotel. No coffee makers in the room. Very uncomfortable desk chair and only one other very uncomfortable chair in the room with no table beside it to sit a beverage. No bottled water in the hotel. You had to go down the hall to a filtered water location if you wanted water. The internet was extremely slow during our visit. The hotel charged a $12.00 per day resort fee. I suppose part of the resort fee was for use of the pool however we were advised anyone could utilize the pool even if not staying at the hotel. This meant it was possible that hotel guests could not even have a chair at the pool. The pool area was very nice but limited seating. Not understanding why the pool area would be open to people not staying at the hotel. The breakfast items were extremely limited with only a few places to sit. We had to go to another hotel for a full breakfast menu. The hotel is in a great area but unfortunately we will not stay at this location again.
