This is quite different than most places you will visit. The place has been here for a long time, and the design shows it, but the rooms are reasonable, neat and clean and each has its own mini garage for your car. However, rooms aside, this is something else. There are several restaurants, a giant fireworks store, an ice cream store,... More

We have stayed here often in the past, however we will not be returning ever again. We are traveling north to Maryland from Florida and with the hurricane damage and sections of I95 closed in North Carolina we called to see if they had any pet friendly rooms available. The woman who answered the phone told me that all of... More

I remember stopping at south of the border about 50 years ago with my parents. I thought I try to relive a little of my childhood and a happy memory now that my parents are gone. On my way to Florida I thought this would be a good waypoint. It was both great and not so good. When I arrived... More

I've stayed at South of the Border on and off over the years. Traveling with my family and by myself. As a woman alone I tend to go for brightly lit places. The motel is dated and kitschy, but clean and comfortable. And I feel safe. The rooms have a musty smell, but it's not too bad. The a/c is... More

The hotel was WAY better than I thought. Paying less than $100 bucks for a hotel I was definitely iffy about especially having 2 young kids and 2 dogs but it turned out to be very nice. The outside and hotel itself is obviously older and could use a bit updating but the room was very clean (the bathroom was... More

We travel with a beagle. When I was initially planning this trip I had a hard time finding a suitable, reasonably priced, pet friendly hotel along I-95 in this vicinity. In spite of the reviews I thought it would be cool to stay at what sounded like a cute kitschy retro motel similar to those I stayed on on road... More

Personally, I have stayed at South of the Border twice. I have never had a problem until now. I recently booked reservations for the 4th but, had to come back to my family reasons. I have been trying to contact the manager since the 4th trying to get a refund for my room. It is ridiculous how the hotel is... More

Spent the night in the motel as part of our Big 2016 Road Trip. The fluorescent exterior and "old school" interior of the rooms isn't exactly quietly tasteful - but then again, it fits in very well with the whole Pedrorific experience. Sleep quality was good, and the AC worked well in the summer heat. The glass door on the... More

Extremely incompetent with their hospitality. Made reservations 2 weeks in advanced to stay in their "Presidential" suite. When we checked in they gave us a simple two double bed room. They changed our reservation without notice. They didn't offer us anything to compensate except for an extra cot, or an escort off the premises. Very rude staff, seem very uneducated.... More
