My daughter and I travelled in our RV from Canada to Ocean lakes Family Campground. We left March 13 which was the beginning of the Covid 19 crisis.
When we arrived to OLFC it was like Key West meets high end campground meets wicked water park! We arrived late and it was dark. Once were parked I had an issue with the electrical, called the office and within 5 minutes security was there to help me!
Indoor and outdoor pools, mini golf and and an amazing water park (seasonally closes). We were pleased with the seriousness OLFC took Covid 19 and shut all the public facilities down. Seems like a bummer? We had an entire beach!!! This did not stop my daughter and I from renting a golf cart and driving around the expansive property looking at everything. We spent a great deal of time on the beach and had a blast while social distancing.
The spaces in between campsites were generous (it’s no provincial park so Canadians who haven’t camped it may seem small but it is definitely good). The park was incredibly clean and the maintenance staff was always fixing sites or painting etc.
There was daily garbage pick up and the bathroom facilities were pristine. Very clean. Due to covid they had closed them down during evening hours for cleaning however everyone has their own camper anyway so it didn’t pose an issue.
There is a small grocery and gift shop right on site. I had an issue with the hot water tank and they sent someone within a day to look at it. The RV store is right on site and the staff was incredibly friendly. The RV store also had the greatest YETi collection I have ever seen. :) The price was fair to fix the water heater but bc my husband can do it himself we opted to shower in the public showers but again very clean!
Security was good about the 11pm quiet hours. I should mention the week days the campgrounds looked approx 75% to capacity but the weekends were jammed filling up Thursday.
My only regret was that we didn’t go when the water park was open. We will definitely be going back as soon as Covid 19 is behind us. I can’t say enough about this park. Even though we were in Myrtle Beach, we didn’t feel the need to travel off site because between the beach, golf cart rides and our own camper activities we were having a blast.
This is a must-do must-see park. For northerners on March Break be prepared for an indoor swimming pool and no water park. That’s my only reminder. :)

I think we were lucky and got there before the rush of spring break because there didn’t seem to be a lot of people there. But overall, we had an amazing trip. It was close to a lot of amenities of Myrtle Beach like restaurants, shops, and activities for kids like Boardwalk at the Beach. The water park wasn’t open but the kids enjoyed the pools, arcade, the basketball area, and playground area. The beach was easily accessible and it was nice that we could park the golf cart right at the entrance. We expected things to be closed due to the time we went (late March) but we’re pleasantly surprised when there was a lot for us to do. We are planning our next stay with my extended family and planning on going later in the summer!
We stayed in a VRBO condo which was amazing because we could save money on eating there and washing our clothes throughout the trip. The houses/condos are beautiful on the property and most of them are well maintained.
We loved that there was 24hour security because it was our first time being there and you never know who will be your neighbor! It was a nice campground feeling along with an all inclusive resort.
Can’t wait to get back there!

This campground has a lot to offer. It’s relatively clean if you don’t mind that some dog owners don’t pick up poop. The showers are cleaned often, the store has good supplies that aren’t overpriced. Mostly good.
However - at night - there are unsupervised children and teens roving around in golf carts, skateboards and scooters- well after 11 pm. And there are fireworks going off after dark and well into the night so if you have a dog that barks or is spooked by fireworks, this is not the place to stay. It’s too bad. This was our second time staying here. We came back because it’s clean and friendly. But until the kids, teens and fireworks get under control we won’t return.

Thank you for choosing Ocean Lakes and taking the time to share your experience and concerns. Our team works diligently to keep our property clean and updated. Of course, the mile of oceanfront and amenities are huge with our guests, and through the years families have adopted the golf car as the best transportation to navigate our 310 acres and haul family and beach stuff to and from their sites. Please know that our Security is on-site and on patrol 24/7 and we always encourage guests to help be our eyes and ears. Every call is logged and must be investigated, but our team is here to address the issues you mentioned (and more). Ultimately, we implore parents to monitor their family and make their children aware of the Quiet Hours and other policies. Courtesy is important to everyone's experience. We do not permit fireworks in the campground and actually remove guests when they cannot abide by that policy (and other policies). Our jurisdiction ends at the sand dunes, and Horry County Police have jurisdiction there regarding fireworks (which are legal in the unincorporated areas of Horry County). I do hope you can return in the future and wish you many safe travels!

Ocean Lakes is very busy with lots of people. We have been to OL many times, but this was the first time we had stayed near the ocean. Had to call security one night due to fireworks being set off on the beach. Ocean Lakes security have no control over what happens on the beach; therefore, the noise went on many different nights until way into the morning hours.
Ocean Lakes rents out hundreds of golf carts and allows anyone 16 or older to drive the carts. Therefore there is a constant parade of carts everywhere with most of them being driven by young kids often very unruly and careless. Security does not seem to have enough help to manage such a crowd.
Due to the congestion in the campground and the number of people on the beach, this will be our last time coming here. If you’re not into constant loud noise and lots of people, I would recommend that you go elsewhere.

We are saddened to learn you do not want to return to Ocean Lakes after so many years of great vacations here! All of your previous visits had set a level of expectation that was not met on your last visit and for that, I apologize. Please know that every guest's experience matters to our team. Summer is very busy and not for everyone, but seasons and the site choice can make a difference. Please know that we do address many of the issues you mentioned. Often guests do not see Security taking action, but please know that we do every day, 24/7. True, we do not catch everyone, but we speak to and even fine or trespass many guests who just cannot abide by our policies or respect other guests. I listen to the Motorola radio at my desk to monitor the team operations. I hear Patrol work together as the comb the campground to find guests (by location and description) to stop them after a teammate or guest calls Security to report reckless driving, loud music or language or a young-looking driver. I hear Security stopping many golf cars to check for age and ID. Sometimes they are surprised at the driver’s age and call out a description so that guest is not repeatedly stopped. Many times I hear “underage driver, golf car (number), site (number), $100 fine. We know there is always room to improve and we call on parents and guests to help. Call Security at the Main Gate 24/7. They log and investigate every call. Behavior is a huge issue, but that problem goes far beyond our gates. Not an excuse, it is the world we all live in today. I sincerely hope you will reconsider Ocean Lakes again. Obviously, the oceanfront sites are not for you. Some guests love them, others prefer being back in the 3000 or 4000 sections where there is less traffic trying to get to and from the ocean. Site choice can greatly impact a guest’s experience and our team is always happy to lend advice and feedback so your vacation is fun and relaxing. Hope to see you again soon.

My family stayed here for a ten day vacation. We have a 42’ Class A motorhome bus with slides we vacation in quite often. We chose this place because it seemed like a nice place for our kids and it was very close to the beach. We always request a concrete pad and oceanfront or lake front where we are. We were given a site within a short distance from the ocean. On the map they all appear to be the same size so it wasn’t a problem. Upon arrival to our site we came to find this was one of the smallest sites in the campground. We had enough room to have our chairs on the concrete but our picnic table was literally next to the sewage line of our neighbor….which was directly behind our chairs! There was no room to park a vehicle so it was part way in the road in front of us. If we parked our golf car in our area we had no room for anything else. It was horrible to say the least! On top of this, there is no wrist band implementation, so nobody knows who belongs. The condo next door (Google that for an eye opener!) is well onto that and has teenagers climbing the wall to get in to wander the campground and use the amenities. On a windy day it’s as though the landfill let loose because you’ll be picking up garbage at your site from your neighbors. The beach is never combed so the same spilled snacks/cigarette butts from yesterday are still there today. And there are random fireworks set off every night until 11pm.
Some good points…the camp store has almost everything you need so you don’t have to leave. Prices there are very reasonable. On-site restaurant is great for lunch and ice cream. Coffee shop has some great options and sells ice cream as well but hours are 7a-11a so it’s pretty limited. Nature Center is excellent for kids and presentations are great. Dog park was very nice but not enough of them…there’s no grass for dogs to do their business!
I have stayed at some of the nicest RV resorts in the country and chose this as a quick getaway for my kids to enjoy. To say it will be my last is an understatement. It’s as if every hillbilly with a 1964 pull behind hooked up to their Ram and opted to try out “campin” for the week. They truly need to increase their prices a bit to weed out the garbage and increase the oceanfront site sizes and the rest will clean up itself.

We are so glad that you enjoyed many of our Amenities, and we hope that your kids had fun. Once again, we do apologize that the site was such a disappointment to you, we tried to move you and address your concerns. We truly want our guests to be happy! We understand how precious it is to take a vacation with loved ones. (Even if you think of those guests as “garbage.”) After your arrival, you emailed us about how unhappy you were with the site (an email very similar to your review). Concerned, our team promptly responded and contacted you with another site option (available due to a guest cancellation). That site featured a concrete pad, was larger (52x32), and was 5 spots back from the ocean. You declined the site. Please know that our team understands that guests want the bigger sites, and we are happy to help book them, if available. Our 859 campsites book by specific site number up to 18 months in advance. We WANT guests to know about their site BEFORE they reserve it (by phone or online). The exact site dimensions of your site (46x24) were given to you when you reserved site 2021 in October of 2021. TIPS: Our website does offer a 360-tour of each campsite linked ( with a YouTube icon) online from every campsite to help guests visualize the site/size/location. August is a very popular month, and the sites fill up more than a year in advance (we get some cancellations throughout the year). Thank you for your comments and suggestions. We wish you the best in all future travels.

We stayed during tropical storm Debby and had a terrible experience. Granted OL cannot control the weather but they could atleast make the experience manageable. Every time we went to use the amenities at the pool there was excuses. We were told that if there is lightning or thunder around in 5 miles that it wouldnt open. Another time it was 10 miles. One person went as far as saying it wouldnt open all week. Each person said something different. The time was always extended an hour to where we stood around waiting for it to do so. Much of our time was wasted and the kids were left disappointed. I understand the safety aspect but I believe either it was taken too far or there is another issue. We went hours with zero storms on the radar within the specified distance. Large crowds gathered in front of the pool gate only to be told excuses and led on. When we stayed last year in April the pool was closed most of the week due to "staffing issues." It seems like a trend here at Ocean Lakes.
We also thought that the "rules" are a bit restricting and get more intense every year. As adults we felt locked down while younger kids/adults ride around on golf carts blaring music and yelling. One example, a late night we decided to get food delivered to the front gate. We had been stopped twice by security and once at the main gate and advised next time to take the car. Clearly in the rules from what we saw, it was perfectly acceptable to do such if you had a destination. We were not joy riding or causing trouble, simply getting food. Borderline harassment if you ask me. The consuming alchohol only on your site is also a bit harsh. Maybe simply asking guests to cover your can or simply put it in a cup would be a better solution. Security seems a bit high strung all carrying body cams and some even having body armor. What's the need? Felt more like a prison than a vacation.
For these reasons we will likely not stay at Ocean Lakes again after several years of coming. We are simply not getting the amenities we are paying for. We felt so ripped off that we decided to spend or money at another location extending our stay in Myrtle Beach.

John, our team understands that a vacation is precious, and we want it to be an amazing time. I apologize that your family’s experience here was such a disappointment mainly due to the impacts of Tropical Storm Debby. The weather-related policies that close pools include lightning strikes detected within 10 miles, and wind or heavy rain that impacts our Lifeguard’s ability to see the bottom of the pools. These policies are critical to the safety of our guests and teammates. I am sorry that someone misinformed you about the lightning distance. If it is just raining, the pools may be open! Also, pool closings are not just weather, while no one wants to think about this, guests (especially kids) often have accidents in the pools, and we must close the pool for cleaning and filtering according to SC DHEC standards. This happened at least once or twice after we re-opened last week. What is the best way to know that the pools are open? Our two webcams overlooking the pools are the best way to monitor our pools after a temporary closing. We understand that everyone does not agree with our policies, but they do not share our perspective. In May our team enhanced the longstanding Quiet Hours (11 PM – 7 AM), with two curfew policies (Midnight to 5 AM) due to the behavior late at night. We also removed “movement with purpose” [sadly] because way too many guests abused this policy. Many campgrounds, businesses, and municipalities have curfews. We want kids (of all ages) and golf cars off the streets by Midnight. These new policies received overwhelming support from our guests, and they have assisted Security teammates as they strive to provide a safe, family-friendly environment. Security can more easily identify potential problems and monitor our campground. Yes, they may have stopped you, and I assure you, they were not picking on you, they stopped (or spoke to) any guests out after Midnight. John, you shared that your family had been staying here for a few years and we appreciate being the campground you loved to visit! Enduring a Tropical Storm or Hurricane on vacation is not what anyone wants as a vacation. Please know that our team and our campground have 53 years of Hurricane Season experience. We keep our guests in mind as we are forced to alter our operations for the safety of our guests (and our teammates who live here and have families). Our VP/GM, Greg, would be happy to speak with you, he can be reached by calling the Main Office at 843.238.5636. We hope you will reconsider Ocean Lakes and truly wish you and your family the best in all your travels.

After making reservations over 13 months ago, golf carts are not available. We're on a waiting list. Possibly 2 days before we can get one.. This place is huge so you need a golf cart to get around. You're not allowed to park your own vehicle by the beach or pool. So 3 campsites, 8 kids under the age of 8 and no means to get around. Poor poor management.
Why don't they let you reserve one when you make your reservations, other campgrounds do! Guess we'll go to the other campgrounds from now on!

Hi Ruby, We understand that you are frustrated, and we appreciate your family's patience. Our team is doing its best to turn over our fleet of nearly 1, 000 golf cars to meet the demands of our guests. We have had discussions and are considering ideas for the future regarding the number of golf cars people rent during peak times. Currently, the average wait time is 24-36 hours - perhaps time to sit on the beach or spend at the Water Park. There is good news - we had been looking for other solutions and just secured additional golf cars from another source to help increase our rental fleet. This will help to reduce the wait time. There is parking by the pool, granted we only have so many spaces, and it is a busy place. There is parking beside the Recreation Center and it is about 180 walking feet to the beach. Again, I understand you are frustrated and just want a golf car. I believe we have emailed with members of your family, and that our VP/GM spoke with a member of your family. Greg said it was a good conversation. We do hear you and we are aware of the other parks around us; they do not reserve golf cars either. With sadness, we understand if you feel you need to try other campgrounds. But we do hope you will return to Ocean Lakes!

My first stay at Ocean Lakes Family Campground after purchasing my RV at Ocean Lakes RV Center. The campground is spotless, there is always someone riding around in a truck, golf cart, or trash collector cleaning up the property. The bath houses are spotless, very clean. All the staff I encountered were extremely friendly. I even had a great interaction with their tech support who was very kind and helped me connect to my new TV. This senior solo lady is looking forward to many more stays.

I have many complaints about the home we stayed in, lot 1158. However that was booked through Turn Key Vacation Rentals. So I will review the home on their site. As far as Ocean Lakes is concerned I have two HUGE issues with them. The community has 101 rules about what what you can't do as a guest/owner. Yet they allow people to display confederate flags on their trailers, homes and golf carts. I understand you can't control people's opinions. But you can control the appearance of their unit and what is displayed outside of it. If you want to make everyone feel comfortable at your property you shouldn't allow people to display hatred or something that would make others feel uncomfortable or unwelcome. Believe me if you have any pigment in your skin you will already feel like an outcast by the many stares and even dirty looks you will get.
The other major issue I have is being charged $10 per day, per vehicle to park. I paid quite a bit to rent a home with a 3 car driveway directly under the home. In other words be advised you'll have to rent the home and the home's driveway seperately. It would be slightly more understandable if it were a community parking lot. The property offered some great ammenities and my kids thoroughly enjoyed it. Unfortunately I can't say I would return. I prefer South and North Myrtle Beach as they are more racially and culturally diverse.

Response from TeammateMPR, Public Relations Manager at Ocean Lakes Family Campground

Hi Leslie! Thank you for choosing Ocean Lakes – we are so glad your kids enjoyed our amenities and campground. Please know that although it is true that we cannot control people’s opinions and most of their choices, it is very disappointing to us that the choices of some of our guests made you feel unwelcome. On their behalf, I apologize. Our team works diligently every day to create an amazing place for ALL families to vacation on the ocean. Everyone is welcome. Each homeowner that chooses to rent their home in Ocean Lakes can include the car passes rather than adding on an additional expense to their renter. At Ocean Lakes Properties (OLP) two vehicle passes are included with every rental house! We also caution everyone who rents privately to be diligent with such a transaction as we see many online scams. OLP is guaranteed scam free! Leslie, we regret you do not want to return to our campground and hope you will reconsider as you and your family are always welcome! We wish you the best wherever your journey leads.

We have visited oceanlakes five times over the course of 12 years and rent a different house each year. The park is always clean and family friendly. We said we weren't going to return when we stayed in 2018 due to the rising costs each year. This past week was ridiculous on the food service you provide. The ice cream shack by the beach was closed every day but two. The restaurant by the pool had no ice cream, which resulted standing in line at the sandy shack for 45min. On one night we ordered a pizza, a burger, and onion rings. After waiting an hour to get our order the onion rings that sat in a warmer for to long just turned into a mush and the burger did about the same. Decided to give it another try we ordered two chicken baskets and a flounder basket. After waiting more than an hour, disappointed once again. The piece of flounder was about the size of five french fries put together. I was told it comes with one piece and it is what it is.
This is the first time this has been an issue, maybe you were just having a bad week. The house we rented was adequate but not very clean at all. Which is more of a reflection on the owner/cleaning crew. House #mh94. Un fortunately I dont think we will be returning with in the next five years or maybe never if the expenses keep rising.

Thank you for choosing Ocean Lakes for your vacation so many times over the last decade, we are honored. We apologize that our food service impacted your recent vacation so much. This visit was not what you had come to expect from our team, and I am sorry. Please know that I did forward your review to that team and spoke with the Manager, Tonie, and Assistant Manager, Andrew. Both wish they had known so they could have made it right while you are here (fresh food, etc.). When a guest lets a Manager know about a problem it becomes a coachable moment to help train new teammates. Things can get busy quickly and we need our new team to know how to perform under all conditions. Our Managers are very accessible and happy to speak with guests. Ask for them, or call the Main Office and they can route you via the phone, or via email info@oceanlakes.com so the Manager can contact you and address the problem hopefully improving your experience while you are still here. I can give you some insight into some of what happened, but please understand that we are not making excuses, just explaining some of the issues. The wait time does vary in season and our goal is to serve fresh, hot food as quickly as possible. An hour is a long time and should not be the norm. It is obvious that you were patient and understanding, giving them a second chance – thank you! And sorry - I am not sure what happened with the flounder – I have ordered it many times and it is usually is the width of the box. This is when a trip back to the window and asking to see the Manager is necessary (as much as you just want to eat). They need to know and correct it promptly with hot, fresh food. We have had to limit some locations’ hours. The Snack Shak did not re-open immediately after we were shut down for COVID-19. We have about 250 year-round teammates and hire more than 250 for the season. Fortunately, we had started recruiting before March but had to shut down and it impacted our seasonal hiring. Several departments hire more than 70 teammates, food service is one of those departments. It took our team several weeks to hire and on-board new hires, so food service focused on the staffing the main location (Meet n’ Eat) and phased in Slush Cabana and the Café. There were limited hours for Snack Shack and the food carts.

We usually try to get there on Sunday or Monday. A lot of folks leave on those days and it may/or may not be less crowded. After Memorial Day, all bets are off. They stay fairly full until after Labor Day. July 4th week, if you don't have a reservation, you may not even get in. We try to make our plans 18 months in advance. Good luck!
Yes, it is open all year!
You should be fine walking on the beach in the early morning hours. Quiet time is more directly related to the activity in the campground. There is a cruise strip along the ocean front and a lot of golf carts "cruise" back and forth giving high fives, playing music, etc. It's a lot of fun but it's literally like NYC at rush hour! They close the front road off so cars don't interfere and it is safer for everyone. Security is very visible along the "cruise strip" and at 11 pm they shut it down. Again, security is always visible throughout the campground and if you are out and about on foot or a golf cart after 11 they will not hesitate to stop you and make sure nobody is up to no good. This is a fantastic place and I'm sure you will enjoy!!!
I believe there is one across the street from the main gate in the shopping center with the Neighborhood Walmart.
Hi there! You can have them delivered to the Main Gate for you to meet them with the groceries. Due to insurance requirements and liability, any delivery person/company needs to be on the Authorized Vendor list that shows they have the right insurance and they would have a badge to go through gate. Anyone conducting business that is not on the list would just meet you up at the 15 minute parking area adjacent to the Main Gate. See ya soon!
