Captain's Quarters Resort is celebrated for its prime location, which many guests find convenient for accessing nearby food and entertainment options. However, the hotel's cleanliness has come under scrutiny, especially concerning the pools and rooms, leading to discomfort for some guests. While the amenities are a hit for families, their enjoyment is sometimes marred by maintenance issues. The service quality appears to be a hit-or-miss, with experiences ranging from commendable to disappointing. Despite the vibrant atmosphere with various activities, the dated decor has not gone unnoticed. Moreover, opinions on the rooms are divided, as some praise their comfort, while others are dissatisfied with the upkeep and cleanliness.

Overall, the visit was good. The main bed had a U shape going on but we were able to overcome that. The indoor pools, hot tubs and the main outdoor pool next to Pirate Ship wasn’t cleaned, filtered and chemically balanced very well. That was our biggest complaint however with the ocean only few feet away. We ultimately utilized that and had a blast. Overall, I do believe we would return. My recommendations would be to hire a pool company or professional pool manager and make the arcade free until level 6 is available. Other then that, we were happy with our stay.

We came to Myrtle Beach for a family vacation with me, my mom, my sister, my nephew, and my 11 month old. Overall it wasn’t horrible but a few things definitely made it hot as great as it could have been. We originally booked a two queen suite with a Murphy bed but when we checked in was given a king suite with a Murphy. When we called the desk they said there was nothing they could do because they were sold out of two queens and the only option given was to pay more money to upgrade to an oceanfront room. We had already paid over $900 for the room we booked and didn’t have extra funds to pay additional money when it was there mess up so we just sucked it up and stayed in the room. The room was in decent shape but the dead bolt on the door was broken. The hotel didn’t provide housekeeping while we were there, which was fine, but at least provide the rooms with a broom considering we are at the beach in an oceanfront hotel and sand is unavoidable. We left our dirty towels in the hall as instructed when we checked in. For three days they were picked up but not replaced. I tried calling the desk several times to see if someone could bring us towels but no one would ever answer so each time we had to go to the desk to request towels. The website states several of the outdoor pools were heated but only the indoor pool and lazy river was. Not a huge deal but we booked primarily so my 11 month old could play in the shipwreck pool area and it was too cold for him to even enjoy it. Overall it was a decent hotel and we had a good vacation but the negatives of the hotel really made the trip not as fun as it should have been.

The rooms need to be updated in the one tower badly and there is no housekeeping which is a bummer, especially since it's an oceanfront resort. The pools could use some tlc but it's a very popular and kid friendly destination so I understand how they get so dirty so fast. We will probably be back because the hotel is kid oriented.
Also the water attractions in the kiddie pool need to be updated/painted.
Otherwise the location is great, the pillows are great, the rooms are big, the kids had fun, the outdoor hot tub was cold but maybe it's supposed to be that way. We will be back.

Great stay for the price. It’s not a 5 star hotel, with that in mind I stayed in a updated room 440, had no issues with the beds (no back problems here and on our 40s) or shower(hot shower worked fine with good pressure). We enjoyed the pool and the entertainment they offered was fun. The beach is a few steps away. The kitchen has pots and pans, utensils and plates, mugs and cups. You have to buy the food and I also bought paper towels. The bathroom has towels but I bought basic toiletries and wipes and disinfecting wipes. I didn’t need any major help during my stay, but the employees did say hi and was nice. I definitely like the fact that it’s close to north myrtle beach. I can’t complain!

The representation of this resort is highly misleading! Prior to booking our spring break trip, we conducted thorough research, including reading reviews. While we were aware that 'level 6' was under construction according to the website, there was no indication that the entire resort was rundown and undergoing construction following a fire in January 2023 (We only learned of the fire from someone in the hallway prior to checking out).

Upon our arrival, we encountered wet paint signs throughout the property, open rooms under constructions, malfunctioning elevators (we had one stop mid floor), and furniture from rooms scattered in the parking garage. The fitness center was poorly equipped with only 1 functioning weight machine, 2 treadmills, and 1 broken stationary bike. Additionally, every open common space was dirty and dilapidated.

Despite being advertised as open, the tiki bar remained closed throughout our stay, and the outdoor hot tub was cold. There was no onsite restraunt. Only one pool outside was available for use due to ongoing exterior painting of the building. The pools and hot tubs at this resort urgently require resurfacing and cleaning. The indoor lazy river and hot tubs were functioning but appeared dirty and grimy.

Upon entering our room on the 6th floor, we discovered an old cigar and a smell that resembled a mixture of cleaning products and smoke. It was unclear whether the smoke smell stemmed from the fire or a previous guest. Although our unit appeared to have been updated with new kitchen cabinets and a bathroom, it was evident that old fixtures were used, or paint was simply applied over dirt.

On our first day, maintenance entered our room without notice, claiming to address a water problem we were unaware of (and didn't have in our room). Despite being assured that the issue was resolved, we experienced inconsistent water temperatures in the shower the next morning for the first time, alternating between scalding and cold. After enduring this problem for another day, despite assurances of a fix, the manager and front desk staff graciously refunded the remainder of our stay. We promptly checked out and relocated to another resort nearby, which not only cost less but was also significantly cleaner and better maintained.

While this resort may have been pleasant at one time, I strongly advise against wasting your money on it in its current state. Management should consider temporarily closing the resort until all necessary repairs and renovations are completed.

The only thing this hotel has going for them is the pools, anything to do with the rooms or front desk is completely horrible. First our room was filthy upon pay the extra amount to check in early, we had to clean the room ourselves, housekeepers not available when you check in so when we called for towels we waited over a hour and had to go get them from the desk. We also spoke with front desk about our room and they wanted us to look at another which it was cleaner but smelled horrible of mold, so the next day the got our rooms mixed up and upon arrival back we was locked out of our room due to front desk. We are not happy with our stay, do yourself a favor and stay away!

Do not stay here if you value your family and your time. Overall, the trip wasn’t horrible, but we tried to stay out of the room as much as possible. We had to spend hundreds of dollar me on items you would have thought would be inside the room (ie frying pan, baking sheet) but too bad I didn’t think about a can opener because it didn’t have that either. I also had to buy cleaning supplies to clean the room so I could trust my children could walk around without shoes in the room ( I still didn’t let them walk without shoes in the room). The bed spread had what looked like blood on the sheets and comforter so we bought new sheets to cover. I understand the concept of wear and rare but for the rates you are paying this seemed to be outdated and un kept. We won’t be returning to Myrtle Beach after this experience. Don’t make the same mistake we did.

The best thing about this hotel is proximity to the beach. There are also two outdoor pools and one outdoor water play area for toddlers. There is an indoor pool but it was always crowded and not as clean. The lazy River was small and didn’t have any current. There are three other indoor hot tubs but none seemed super clean. Our WiFi never worked during the stay and the beds were really uncomfortable, so much so I finally slept on the couch two nights. The rooms (depending on type) are a great size and have a decently equipped kitchen (no dishwasher). Housekeeping only visits when you check out so things can get very sandy if you stay a lot of days, but a broom and dustpan are provided. Extra towels were delivered quickly upon request, as well as extra blankets and pillows (one bedroom was significantly colder all the time that our main room). If your balcony overlooks the pool, expect LOUD music from a DJ from 12-5pm most days. Also, the A/C units are so loud that enjoying a calm sit on the balcony isn’t possible if the unit is running. Wet swim stuff does dry quickly on the balcony. The beach is great and the lifeguards are nice. We had a hard time getting out to the beach to see sunrise on two days and had to do some creative exiting from the building. Bowling is one game free each day but you pay shoe rental (over $20 for a family of four.) The lanes are okay but older with some dents in the wood. If you don’t have a car with you, make sure to pre-book a cab back to the airport as they are not super easy to get.

It has been close to 10 years since I visited this hotel and stayed in the angle oceanfront room and WOW has this place aged and it shows. The bathroom smelled dirty despite looking mostly clean. The toilet bowl and seat were clean but under the lid was gross. The shower and sink were clean but the bottom of both was so cracked and worn and well past time for upgrades. The shower only halfway functioned, because the stopped for the faucet to deliver water pressure to the shower head only halfway worked. So we had half a shower heads worth of water pressure. The plunger in the sink was broken and simply left beside the sink. The tv remote was missing its back battery cover but it functioned fine. The lamps had rusted worn bases, all the furniture looked very worn. The small lounge sofa in the room wobbled on its four legs just from propping our suitcase up on it. It was not useable for lounging. The saving grace was that the bed and bedding was very clean and decently comfortable. Most of our stay revolved around activities outside of our room and off the hotel grounds, so I didn’t bother to complain to staff. But this was a disappointment compared to our past experiences and would make me think twice booking here again. Even the elevators are run down and walking through the outdoor halls you can see cement crumbling and rebar sticking out in areas. We didn’t use any of the facilities as it was too cold for outdoor pools etc and all the indoor stuff was closed. Staff was very friendly and check in and out was convenient. I tried leaving this feedback in the multiple surveys they sent me (via email and text) but all the survey sites were glitching and not able to submit, so those were yet another frustrating waste of my time.

This hotel is not good at all. Stayed here in the past 20 years ago and it was a great place then. The staff are all foreigners. Not putting them down because of that. First off when we booked we were assured they had parking across the street for oversized vehicles. When we arrived we found the parking lot across the street was under construction. No one bothered to notify us. The elevators are in poor condition they would slam to a stop on a unspecified floor with no one waiting. Once the door would not open a maintenance guy said one of the elevators had gotten stuck and got off and walked 3 floors instead of riding elevator to destination. The room was clean for the most part but found a dead roach in our room. The shower had a Crack around the faucet and they had silicone over it. There were two black smudges on the wall. The carpet in the hallway was always dirty but saw staff vacuum multiple times. This place needs a complete remodeling. You had to watch staff they put our drivel dat as departure date on our parking pass. We purchased a 50 dollar food credit and they wrote a voucher for 25 dollars we caught those two things. One the third day our room keys stopped working had to see them about that. To there credit they resolved all issues including parking. They need to close for a year or so and remodele to bring this place back to what it used to be. They had a fire on the sixth floor last year and you can still see the damage if you look at the entrance from the parking deck if staying in rooms above the sixth floor. Not a terrible place but needs big improvement before I would ever stay here again.

Quit trying to get in touch with Captain's Quarters. Do yourself a favor and find another place to stay. We planned to stay there a week in early June 2021 and canceled the rest of our stay after 2 days and went elsewhere. The hotel is DIRTY, SMELLY and overall nasty.

Hi there! Tipsy Turtle, located on our pool deck, is open seasonally featuring drinks and grill items, weather-permitting. It is currently opened Fridays – Sundays from noon to 5 pm. Tipsy Turtle is open approximately until the end of October. The ocean view king suites are located on floors 4-15. Request can be made but are not guaranteed.
