Captain's Quarters Resort offers a lively experience with its variety of pools, lazy rivers, and entertainment that guests enjoy, though some areas could benefit from updating and better maintenance. While the atmosphere is buoyant with music and activities, the decor and amenities are often viewed as needing a refresh. Service experiences vary, with commendations for friendly staff but also critiques of slow service and communication. Rooms are generally clean but may appear outdated, with some guests noting a lack of privacy. Although the location is highly praised for its proximity to attractions and scenic views, travelers frequently question the hotel's value, pointing out overpricing and dated facilities.

The best thing about this hotel is proximity to the beach. There are also two outdoor pools and one outdoor water play area for toddlers. There is an indoor pool but it was always crowded and not as clean. The lazy River was small and didn’t have any current. There are three other indoor hot tubs but none seemed super clean. Our WiFi never worked during the stay and the beds were really uncomfortable, so much so I finally slept on the couch two nights. The rooms (depending on type) are a great size and have a decently equipped kitchen (no dishwasher). Housekeeping only visits when you check out so things can get very sandy if you stay a lot of days, but a broom and dustpan are provided. Extra towels were delivered quickly upon request, as well as extra blankets and pillows (one bedroom was significantly colder all the time that our main room). If your balcony overlooks the pool, expect LOUD music from a DJ from 12-5pm most days. Also, the A/C units are so loud that enjoying a calm sit on the balcony isn’t possible if the unit is running. Wet swim stuff does dry quickly on the balcony. The beach is great and the lifeguards are nice. We had a hard time getting out to the beach to see sunrise on two days and had to do some creative exiting from the building. Bowling is one game free each day but you pay shoe rental (over $20 for a family of four.) The lanes are okay but older with some dents in the wood. If you don’t have a car with you, make sure to pre-book a cab back to the airport as they are not super easy to get.

We just checked out of the resort today and the rooms are in dire need of a refurbishment. Never mind the fact that when you walk out of your room the parking garage surround the rooms. There is only carpeting outside of the rooms and in the stairwells. The rooms are all tile floor which makes it very very dangerous when coming in from the pool or the beach if you’re wet.

The rooms themselves are in dire need of refurbishment. The door to the balcony didn’t lock unless you use the latch lock. The screws to the Night lock on the front door weren’t fully secure. Since I didn’t bring a toolbox with me I had a hand tighten them.

There is not one hook in the bathroom to hang a towel or wet bathing suit or anything for that matter. We used the shower curtain rod to hang wet bathing suits, we hung stuff on the railing outside on the balcony and we hung stuff over the tub to dry each night. It might be helpful to install one of those retractable drying strings that some hotels have in the bathroom over the tub.

Nobody was enforcing the wristband rule upon entry to the pools. People could come from other resorts or from the beach and there was nobody there to stop them.

And let’s not forget the family one day that decided after the DJ was finished playing their music that they would take it upon themselves to bring it in their own amplifier, start playing their own music and turn the pool deck into their own personal dance party. There was nobody to tell these people that they couldn’t do that.

Overall, our stay wasn't bad. We absolutely loved how many pools they have. They have enough indoor and outdoor pools to enjoy without feeling overcrowded. I like that they have a parking garage attacked, although they do charge a separate $12 nightly charge for parking. I do wish that was included in the nightly room charge instead of being a hidden fee. We stayed in room 1062, an Oceanfront King Suite. Overall, we liked the room however there was a lot that could be improved on. The mattress was really uncomfortable and felt like they bought the absolute cheapest mattress they could find. The floor was tile, which looked nice but isn't all that functional at a beach hotel. Sand was everywhere. No matter how many times we swept, we still had sand sticking to our feet. I ended up just wearing shoes in the room most of the time. This never happened in any beach hotel that had carpet. At the very least, they could provide bedside rugs to wipe your feet before getting into bed. The livingroom had the oceanfront balcony and the bedroom had an angled window with an oceanview. However the angled window in the bedroom had lights from below buildings shining directly into the window angled toward the bed. This was a problem because the curtains hang in front of the window, but didn't wrap around the corner of the window. The lights from the buildings below shined right through the edge of the curtain onto the bed. The bathroom was tiny. That wasn't a big deal for us but if you're into large luxurious bathrooms, this isn't the place for you. I really do wish breakfast was included. It seems like such a little thing, but that would've made our stay much better. All of the staff that we encountered in the halls were really friendly, but the staff at the front desk weren't great. They were fairly rude and just really didn't seem like they wanted to be working there. The check-in process itself was relatively easy though. I like that you can check-in online to make the check-in process at the desk easier.

We stayed Saturday through Monday and ended up leaving early because that's how bad our stay was. To start, I dont believe the front desk staff could have cared any less about their job or the customers checking in. We arrived alittle early, was told our room was being cleaned and they would give us a call, no problem. Apparently, they need to retrain the staff on what cleaning means. We arrived to our room and it was a complete waste. Talk about a dumpster with a beach front view. Trash and bugs everywhere, surfaces were disgusting, hair all over the place and none of it was ours. The TV's in both our rooms didn't work. Our refrigerator was busted, and didn't work. The drains for both sinks and both tubs were so backed up they wouldn't drain the water. The back doors barley closed and the front door barley opened. One rooms air-conditioning unit was so loud, you nearly had to shout to talk over it. There was black stuff all over the ceiling?? There were pieces of trash under the table legs to help the table not rock back and forth. The cabinets and dresser drawers were falling apart. We only received one parking pass, even though we had 2 rooms, not to mention the parking rate is ridiculous when you can park next door for only $10. We had 2 bathrooms in our room, and only one toilet paper roll, and one towel for the entire room. We called down to get more, finally after 5 hours had to go down and get it ourselves from the front desk. No one cleaned the room or picked up the trash we cleaned up ourselves, even after telling staff about the condition of the rooms. The resort itself was in terrible shape. The pools were dirty. The entire place smelled terrible. The hallways littered with trash and total disregard from staff made this stay a nightmare. For as much money as we had paid to stay at this resort, we expected much better. Find a better place to stay for your vacation, and move on.

My family and I have stayed at this resort every year for 20+ years and within the past few years our experiences here have gradually degraded. We just checked out after a trip for Valentine’s Day and left extremely disappointed. Upon arrival the wait to check in was relatively long. Only one person was working at the front desk with a line waiting. We checked in and went to our room to discover we were given the wrong key. Once in our room the floor had been mopped and was so sticky we didn’t want to take our shoes off. I immediately called the front desk and asked could they send someone to mop the floor again and was told someone would be right up. No one ever came and the floor remained sticky our whole stay like someone poured syrup on it. Eventually went into the bathroom where we stumbled upon a roach! We could hardly sleep at night because of the noise from the hallways. We didn’t get to enjoy our balcony because of the constant strong smell of marijuana. The front desk was kind but not very helpful with anything. Management was VERY unprofessional and obviously needs to learn how to communicate with the public. Sad to say we will NOT be returning here and have began to look for somewhere else to stay for our next visit to Myrtle Beach.

So I really want to like this place! The marketing is great! I loved watching the sunrise Webcam. However I had stayed here several years ago and it was lacking then but I gave it another try. Bad choice! The rooms were worse than I remember! The smell and noise very familiar! The room we were assigned had been updated, evidently by someone in corrections. There was no sink/counter space in the bathroom yet the hair dryer hung there. The once kitchenette sink had been replaced by a metal basin! It felt like a prison! I understand with Covid housekeeping has changed, (but is that the reason though?), but why do I have to request clean towels every day? Are there people who visit who don't shower the sand and sweat off? If it's not "safe" to have the housekeeping staff in the rooms daily can't they at least just deliver linen daily without having to call and beg for it? Plenty of "security" staff noted during the day, but where were they all night long as people were playing loud music and traipsing up and down the hallway from one room to the other? Oh, and I asked the one security staff person in the parking garage a question and couldn't tell you his answer because I was so overcome by the smell of days old alcohol and cigarettes! Sorry guys, you won't sucker me in with your excellent marketing any more! Would not recommend!!!!

The hotel doesn't match the pictures. It is dated. Our room wasn't filthy but certainly didn't look clean either. We enjoyed the arcade and beach during the day but the Gecko restaurant was overpriced for the quality of food. And then there was bed time. The walls must be made of paper. We could hear every noise all night long. We were on the 5th floor and heard kids screaming as they ran up and down the hall, the furniture being moved around from the unit above us, loud music, people arguing, fireworks, you name it, we could hear it. Plus the AC unit in our room woke us up every time it kicked on. We got 0 sleep. The icing on the cake was the 6:00 fire alarm going off. We had to take our 2 young petrified children outside for an hour while the fire department took care of a small kitchen fire from the guy staying 2 doors down from us. It set off the sprinklers in his room and water was everywhere (I am thankful no one was hurt and that it was contained).
It was an easy decision for us to cut our trip short and check out that morning to go home and sleep. When I checked out I told the receptionist that we were checking out a day early due to everything and asked for a refund for the extra knight we were not staying. She told me no refunds. :(

Brought 2 kids (8 and 9) down for their birthdays. Service was great all around, especially Shannon at the front desk, but every person we interacted with was friendly and helpful.

We had breakfast at the hotel on Saturday and again service was great, our server was Ashely (or Ashlyn?). Food was decent, pretty standard hotel breakfast fare. We did wish we had been told that we would have a server in the restaurant because we did not come prepared to tip (since we had already paid for breakfast vouchers), but we just went back to room for some money to tip. Lovely view from breakfast.

I read quite a few negative reviews regarding cleanliness after we had booked, which had me nervous, but we had no issues there whatsoever. The room seemed clean. Nothing crazy fancy but we were pleasantly surprised after reading other negative reviews.

We did wish there was a lamp in the bedroom, but only pretty harsh fluorescent lighting in there. If I had realIzed there would be no lamp I would have brought a small one.

The heated indoor pool, arcade, and bowling were all great for the kids. They were happy, we were happy. I would stay here again and recommend!

The reviews I read were so bad, I almost canceled my reservation. It just happened that I had a friend who had gone to Captain Quarters before. I messaged her and she said she loved it. I don't know what problem the others were talking about. The rooms and linens were clean. I did not go peak season so the price made me happy as well. I could put my Karen hat on and find something wrong if pressed. The soap dish needed to be replaced, the rooms are on the small size but it was just me and my wife so that wasn't a problem and there is no chair in the room which I thought was strange, so I brought one of the balcony chairs inside and used it for my suitcase. It was about time for some of the towels to be replaced from many bleachings but they are so plentiful that you will find a few fluffy ones in the batch. My weird wife explained, the pink disinfectant left behind the commode was a sign that when you're cleaning and something doesn't come up the first time, you spray again. She was so thrilled about the hospital disinfectant that she cleaned the pink streak left herself with a wipe. The staff were great, most of the guests wore masks and the security man will check on you even when you don't need him. Just made us feel extra safe.

Hi Cheryl, thank you so much for your question! We try to keep our Tipsy Turtle Pool Bar open as long as we can (weather permitting). Normally we do close our Pool Bar down for the season in October but when in October we close it all depends on the weather. Quit trying to get in touch with Captain's Quarters. Do yourself a favor and find another place to stay. We planned to stay there a week in early June 2021 and canceled the rest of our stay after 2 days and went elsewhere. The hotel is DIRTY, SMELLY and overall nasty.
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Hi there! Tipsy Turtle, located on our pool deck, is open seasonally featuring drinks and grill items, weather-permitting. It is currently opened Fridays – Sundays from noon to 5 pm. Tipsy Turtle is open approximately until the end of October. The ocean view king suites are located on floors 4-15. Request can be made but are not guaranteed. Thank you! - Amber, Captain's Quarters Resort/ Vacation Myrtle Beach
