The DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Myrtle Beach Oceanfront has garnered mixed reviews, with guests commending its serene beachfront location and some finding the rooms comfortable with pleasant views. However, numerous guests have called out the need for room renovations, deeper cleaning efforts, and updates to create a fresher atmosphere. While the service receives some accolades for professionalism, issues with attentiveness have been noted. Amenities like beach access are a hit, but the perceived value is diminished by high prices and additional fees.

We stayed Sep 3 - 6, 2020 and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It is an older property but our room and the facilities we used were very well kept. We stayed in a partial ocean view room and were not the least bit sorry we passed on full ocean view to save some $. We enjoyed our balcony and the view it provided. The lower partial ocean view rooms on the left side of the hotel (facing ocean) were somewhat obscured by a building on the shore front.
The ocean pool is huge! We rented a cabana for $50 a day which came with bottled water and a HUGE fruit bowl. Easily $25 in water and fruit. The cabana had a mini fridge and an extra large chaise lounge which was comfy for all 3 of us.
We spent a full day on the beach, just steps away from the hotel, and rented two lounge chairs and an umbrella for $40. The beach was immaculate. The hotel provides pool towels and beach towels which were in plentiful supply.
We stayed on the hotel property most of our visit and always felt 100% safe and secure. We were not traveling with children this trip but this property is definitely family friendly.

Dear Guest: Thank you so much for spending Labor Day Weekend with us, and thank you for taking the time to share your experience at our location with the Travel Community on Trip Advisor! We appreciate the positive feedback and are so pleased to read that you so thoroughly enjoyed your visit with us, and that although you were in a partial ocean view you still had amazing views from your balcony! We also thank you for describing so accurately our seasonal cabana service, a great option for a beautiful beach day if you want to take a break from the sand! Again, thank you for staying with us and for your kind review! We hope to have the opportunity to serve you on a future visit to the Myrtle Beach area. Sincerely, Jessica

I picked this resort because it was part of Hilton and found on my Hilton app. The resort was nice and south of town away from the crowd. The only complaint I had was the additional $22 resort fee. I think it should be waived during this Covid time. For $22 I saved $14.50 on 2 50% off drinks and got 2 pool towels. For 3 days ($66) I received this amenity. The lazy river tubes had to be purchased in the gift shop and I assume due to this people were just swimming in the lazy river. For those we noticed with tubes they could not really utilize lazy river due to swimmers. Also the pier which I think is part of the double tree property is open but costs $3. Why couldn’t this be included in the resort fee? We also didn’t realize until later we were not offered cookies at check-in. I found it on my Hilton Honor app. I know these are tough times due to Covid, but some of the items I requested such as water for my room did not come so we waited before calling again (think water is part of the $22 fee). Each evening we did request new towels and those came very quickly. Before you book remember there is an additional $22 so you may want to compare the price to other hotels who do not charge a resort fee. I tried to contact Hilton through the honors app without any luck so I am posting a review.

Dear Jane L: Thank you so much for staying with us, and thank you for taking the time to share your experience at our location with the Travel Community on Trip Advisor. We appreciate your comments regarding how much you enjoyed our location away, yet close to it all! We are fortunate to be situated adjacent to the state park away from other resorts- our beaches are perfect for social distancing! I would like to clarify two items in your review as they relate to restrictions on property due to the Corona Virus. Due to the virus, we are not offering floats for our lazy river, as we do not have an effective and efficient way to sanitize them in between each use. Although we do sell flotation devices in our gift shop, we also allow our guests to bring their own- it is not a requirement that they be purchased in the gift shop. Per Hilton directive, our cookies are only offered on an "on demand" basis at this time due to the pandemic, rather than handed to each guest. We do have signs stating this at our front desk. In regards to our resort fee, you will find that this is quite common for resorts in the Myrtle Beach area! Our resort fee includes your wi-fi access, parking, daily bottled water, 50% off beer and wine daily (or non alcoholic drinks) from 4p to 8p in our lounge, our miniature golf course across the street, our game area below the building, and complimentary beach towels. We do think this is a great value! As daily housekeeping service has to be requested and scheduled due to the Corona Virus, the bottled water does need to be requested on an "on demand" basis. We are doing our very best to keep our team and our guests as safe as possible as we navigate this new and ever changing travel climate! Again, thank you for staying with us and for your loyalty to the Hilton Family of hotels. Sincerely, Jessica

This was probably once a premier property—maybe in the ‘90s or thereabouts. But now it’s older and worn. For example, I felt uncomfortable walking barefoot on the carpeted floor in my room. The ice machine on my floor didn’t work for over a day, long after I told the front desk about it the first time. Some of the staff seems to try to be accommodating, but they seem unhappy to be here, especially during the coronavirus crisis, which put a premium on the cleanliness that I saw somewhat lacking. It was tolerable for a couple of days, but I’m moving to a newer property today for the rest of the week. To their credit, they did agree to waive their resort fee since most of the amenities were shut down because of the virus.

Dear James: Thank you so much for staying with us, and thank you for taking the time to share a review of our resort with the Travel Community on Trip Advisor. We were disappointed to read some of the feedback in your review, as our resort, and our brand, both pride ourselves on our extremely high standards of service and cleanliness. As you mention in your comments, this is a highly uncertain time for all of our team members, and the hospitality business in general. I do feel, however, that our team has done an excellent job of acclimating to the changes and communicating these changes to our guests. Unfortunately, due to the current climate, we were operating on a somewhat limited staff during your visit. Therefore, some items may have taken a bit longer to be addressed then they may have been under normal circumstances, not only due to limited staffing but to extra cleaning measures put in place. i can assure you, however, that all departments of our resort work diligently to keep our property looking its very best and operating smoothly. Again, thank you for staying with us, and for your feedback. Sincerely, Jessica

Our stay here was very pleasant. A clean comfortable room although in a different location than the main hotel, still nice. Only thing we found annoying was the air planes flying so close overhead. Loved the warm cookies and friendly staff upon checkin. Would love to stay longer next time.

We chose this location specifically because they allow dogs. Nowhere does the website tell you that the beach has life guards who enforce the rule that dogs are not allowed on the beach between 10-5 unless they are service animals with documentation. The "dog park" area was quite muddy, and who wants to take their dog to do their business in a muddy yard? (Gross) Nowhere did the boxes that were supposed to contain dog waste bags have any bags in them the 5 days we were there, even in the dog park. There were two "rinse off" stations near the pool at the building we were in, one had a clogged drain the whole time we were there, which meant to use it you would stand in 2 inches of filth water (gross) or wait your turn at the other one. Not great for washing off your dog several times a day.

I could go on about the lack of room service, but the website *does* warn you about that. The thing that got me was that when we did need towels or sheets (muddy dog jumped up) we had to pilfer them off the maid carts because if you call and ask you have to be 24-hours in advance to order your room to be cleaned. Ridiculous, and not great with a pet. Could have had a better time at a place that not only ALLOWS dogs but also ACCOMMODATES families with a dog.

Dear Guest: Thank you so much for staying with us, and thank you for taking the time to share a review of our dog friendly resort with the Travel Community on Trip Advisor. We take great pride in being the ONLY pet friendly Hilton property in the Myrtle Beach area, and serve hundreds of both four legged and two legged guests daily! Unfortunately, we do not own the beach in front of our resort, and therefore do set the rules and regulations of this area, rather, this is set by the County, Horry County, SC. During the summer months, dogs are allowed on the beach, however the hours are restricted, prior to 10 am and after 5 pm only. We do not have control over these restrictions. .In regards to our dog park, this area is grassed, and I can only imagine was muddy due to a recent rain storm- this is certainly not muddy or water logged all the time and is maintained daily by our Grounds Team. As you mention, our property, and ALL Hilton properties do require daily housekeeping service to be scheduled- our room attendants will not visit the room automatically daily. This is not only at our location. We do however, have the ability to deliver supplies at any time without any notice, simply by calling our texting our front desk team. There is certain no need to pilfer our attendant's carts, although you are more than welcome to! Again, thank you for staying with us and for your feedback. Sincerely, Jessica

We chose the DoubleTree as part of a Hilton Grand Vacation promotion. If I were Hilton, I would NOT choose "resort" to entice people to invest in property.

The lobby is very nice; most people were wearing masks, and about half of them were were wearing them properly (over nose AND mouth).

As we inserted the key card into our room, two very loud pups next door starting barking incessantly. A trip back to desk resulted in a different room, with a much less appealing view... but not yapping dogs.

The room was in serious need of a facelift. The carpet looked (and felt) very dirty. The room smelled musty.

The day we left, the elevator quit working. When I checked out, the agent handed me $127 and some change. I asked what it was for and was told it was my refund. Concerned, I told her everything had been prepaid... she had checked out the wrong room. Hmmm.... maybe I should have taken the cash and run.

Dear Guest: Thank you so much for staying with us, and thank you for taking the time to share a review of our resort with the Travel Community on Trip Advisor. We appreciate your feedback, as without it, we would be unable to continuously improve moving forward! Hilton Grand Vacations and ourselves are both a part of our esteemed portfolio of Hilton properties, and we frequently host their guests traveling to Myrtle Beach to attend their time share property presentations. We would like to apologize for any condition issues within your guest room. As we are a pet friendly property, we do allow dogs, however, all pet owners must sign an agreement that includes a clause noting that their animals cannot disturb other guests. Therefore, when we receive a report such as yours, we immediately contact the owners and request that they address the noise. We understand, however, that moving was a more preferable option for you, although we regret to read that it was not your desired location. We appreciate your honesty in not accepting a cash refund offered to you in error that did not belong to you. As you can imagine, during these uncertain times, our team is short handed (as we have lost team members due to the pandemic) and working very diligently to accommodate a large resort that is still operating at a very high occupancy, even higher than previous years! Unfortunately, clerical errors, although rare, can occur. I can assure you that all elevators on site are operating properly, although, as with the occasional clerical error, an occasional and brief mechanical error can also occur! We definitely do our best to perform the proper preventative maintenance to prevent issues such as this. Again, thank you for staying with us and for your feedback. Sincerely, Jessica

The service when first go to the hotel was a little hit or miss and definitely didn't remind me of a Doubletree. Having stayed an 3 or 4 Doubletree hotels just this past Fall, and they were in much much better condition for better rates. Plus, nobody ever got me a cookie even when we asked.

To be fair, the staff was SUPER nice. They just weren't always quick to respond and the were working at a disadvantage with a hotel that seemed to be battling age and decline.

First, the elevator closest to our room was out of order, so we had take to our luggage up 3 flights of stairs without the benefit of a luggage cart. For me that's rarely an issue as I don't care for using elevators and I only bring two bags. However, with my wife and two girls, that was a little tougher than I expected.

There were no luggage carts available, even if we could to use them at an elevator on the other side of the building. I went to the areas labeled "Luggage Carts" in 3 different locations. I even asked 3 housekeepers if they knew where any might be. The only responses I got were "I don't know" or "go ask the front desk". They weren't mean or disrespectful - just not helpful.

We didn't get the usual Doubletree cookies. I couldn't care less about cookies, but if that's part of your check-in procedure, I'm not sure why we didn't get it. The girls would have appreciated it and it would have been a decent customer service experience.

The ladies in our room went to the indoor pool, but there were no pool towels. They went back and grabbed 2 towels from the room for 3 people. Since there were only 4 towels in the room to begin with, there weren't enough towels for us to all take showers. I had to use hand towels when I got back from my run.

There are 4 people in our room and we did not get any extra sheets for our pull out sofa. I got pillows last night from housekeeping (although, I had to call twice and it took nearly an hour) because our room did not come in with and extras. It wasn't particularly clean either. We found toys from previous guests in drawers and crumbs and pretzel pieces in the sofa. Pretty gross.

I pretty much stay at all Hilton Hotels around the Country and overseas, so I am not new to Hilton brands and their properties and how they are kept up. 95% are staffed with great folks all the time and properties are upgraded and clean.
This Resort is a resort due to the updated Lobby and Bar/Lounge area and its view being Oceanside. Once you enter the room welcome to the 1960's. They have updated the entry and balcony exit with new wood flooring but left the nasty wash and wear carpet in the middle of the room. No fitted sheets on the bottom sheet of the beds not sure why that is, decor is really circa 1960's I expected to turn on the modern TV to get Black and White TV of the Twilight Zone or JFK giving a speech. Under our bed the underside of the mattress was totally ripped off. Seems an upgrade is necessary in these rooms. All rooms have window shakers, as concrete structure will not allow central air to be put in without a major expenditure on their part. During these COVID 19 times we would have thought the menu would be better for breakfast but it was also limited and expensive, more than usual. Staff I am sure work very hard to keep the lipstick on this pig but this Motel as I call it needs a renovation upgrade, then you can call this a resort. Lounge Chairs at main pool below lobby are all yellowed and outdated need replaced. Rooms need painting marks all over the room we had and carpet had big stain on floor. At over $200 plus dollars per night this did not meet our expectations this is really the room a $75 per night Motel and only gets to $85 per night due to being on the Ocean. Sadly I will not be returning to this property and will seek other cleaner, upgraded hotels or whatever in this area in the future.

Dear Mr. McBean: Thank you so much for staying with us, and thank you for taking the time to share a review of our resort with the Travel Community on Trip Advisor! As a loyal Hilton Honors member with an extensive travel background, we certainly appreciate your feedback, and would like to extend our apologies to you that the room in which you stayed did not meet your expectations, and had some areas that were in need of improvement- we certainly do not want any of our guests to depart our property with a negative impression of our accommodations and common areas. We encourage all of our guests to take a photo tour of our property from our website, prior to selecting our resort for their vacation, so they may get an accurate idea of what to expect. Although I was not born yet in the 1960s, I do know that our rooms were renovated when Hilton took over our property in 2016. I am not sure if they were going for a retro look, but our TVs certainly are updated flat screen Samsungs and unless the History Channel happens to be playing, I do not think you will find any live JFK speeches! The carpets were replaced 2016-2017 after Hurricane Matthew hit our area. In regards to flat sheets, rather than fitted, this is a Doubletree by Hilton standard that you will find at any of this brand in our hotel family. Again, thank you for staying with us and for your comments- we will certainly ensure that they are addressed with the appropriate members of our team. Without such feedback, we would be unable to continuously improve moving forward. Sincerely, Jessica

The team at this hotel showed such amazing professionalism during the covid-19 situation. They had opened up lfor business everything was handled so professionally made us very comfortable and SAFE on our first trip out. The team at this hotel and management truly needs to be commended. Other than that is a beautiful hotel with great views Not just from your room but from various locations around the grounds. We are very satisfied with our room, the accommodations the breakfast and store location to the beach the state park and location to stores and attractions nearby highly recommend this property! Some of the facilities were obviously closed due to the health situation. We look forward to going back and utilizing the resort when everything is fully opened.

Read the reviews on Google, etc... The photos look good, the outdoor space and view may be great. The rooms (at least the two that I had a ten minute experience with)were not. Complete misrepresentation of the room conditions. They are overly worn and these two rooms were dirty. The walls, the floors, the appliances, the door frames, the lamp bases, the wooden furniture/cabinet doors. The second room had spider webs above the balcony door and bugs crawling on the wall/ceiling, plus a mosquito, that I finally got when it landed on the bedskirt. The woman at check in was super sweet, although the gentlemen who I reached for moving my room left me feeling as uncomfortable as I felt in the rooms, rather than concerned or understood. Took plenty of photos to document. I felt so upset as we were super excited to arrive and stay there. We left and moved to another property well away from the beach due to last minute availability limitations and cost constraints of same day booking.

Dear Guest: Thank you so much for staying with us, and thank you for taking the time to share a review of our resort with the Travel Community on Trip Advisor. We would like to apologize that your stay with us fell short of the Hilton standards you have come to expect when traveling with our brands, and that you were not able to find a room that you felt comfortable enough to relax and enjoy your vacation in. We are sorry we did not leave you feeling that your situation had been resolved prior to your departure, as is always our goal. Again, thank you for your feedback, as we will use this as we strive to continuously improve moving forward. We hope you will continue to stay with the Hilton Family of hotels. Sincerely, Jessica

It’s truly a disgusting place. The absolute WORST I’ve ever encountered. Thankfully, Expedia refunded me in full and gave me a credit for my troubles. I also wrote to the CEO of Hilton but never received a response. I’ll never return to MB again after that ordeal. We checked out of the hotel within 10 minutes of checking in. I feel your pain!

"Love the view, it is peaceful from the hustle & bustle of crowds but a short drive to the action. Great fishing from the Springmaid Pier. "
