This motel was recommended through the South Carolina Welcome Centre. The smoke detector was hanging from ceiling, (we popped back in but batteries dead), grounds in coffee maker from previous traveller, room not tidy. We checked out 1/2 hour after we arrived and were advised we wouldn't be billed. We were, and we are still waiting for a credit on our charge account. Have tried speaking with supervisor, but she is not very helpful. Last call I was told that credit has been done but she was too busy to check as to when. We were there end of Jan and it's now middle of May. Would not recommend this motel..

Check in was rude! We had booked already online through Hotels.com based on decent reviews. We put down 3 guests and two beds online. My husband went inside and they said they had to charge extra because of our son? I’ve never heard of such a thing on a two queen bed room. Get to the room and oh my gosh.. the smell alone would knock you out. Smelled like they poured cheap deodorizer to mask the smell. Turned on the heat and it smelled like urine. Stains everywhere.. I didn’t even want to sleep on the beds. As someone who works in property management.. these people should be ashamed on the condition of this dump. Would never ever recommend. See photos to see a taste of what you’ll get.

Check in was pretty easy, I thought.
I went to the assigned room and found a queen bed and a room that wreaked of smoke. We had booked a non smoking King size bed.
I went back to the desk and was assigned a different room with the king bed, non smoking. Great, right?
I opened the door only to find a woman looking at me with a mirrored expression of shock and surprise in her eyes and a man stretched in the the bed.
I apologized and went back to the desk for the second time. We were directed to a third room (three times a charm?). It was small, but at least it wasn’t occupied by another couple and it had a king size bed.
In the morning, we looked forward to having a little continental breakfast! To our surprise, we weren’t allowed anything other than coffee or tea. Evidently, if you book via Hotel.com they don’t offer a crust of bread for breakfast. On a positive note, the coffee was good.
We won’t be returning.

I would not rate this Motel a 4. The room was large and the bed was comfortable. The TV came in like it was hooked to a bad antenna. I don't know exactly how to rate the housekeeping. The room wasn't dirty but it also didn't feel clean. It just felt kind of dingy. The bathroom was pretty and had been redone. The toilet was broken though and wobbled precariously. The shower was very good except that the shower curtain was too short and water spilled all over the floor. The evening staff person was abrupt. The daytime staff people were very friendly. The breakfast had a sausage biscuit, a scrambled egg patty, bacon, all of which was cold and needed to be heated in the microwave. There were lots of cereals. Their were assorted breads including bagels, and my husband was pleased that there was peanut butter. The motel rate was pretty good. So all in all I would give this a 3 and it's up to you whether you think that the room is worth the good price.

As we travel from Pennsylvania to our daughter's in Florida we always stop at Southern Lodge. The rooms are clean and we'll appointed for our needs, the breakfast is one of the best on the road and the staff is friendly and accommodating. They have become friends along the way. We look forward to staying at Southern Lodge.

I don't like deceptive advertising. Their sign said $49.95, which I figured was for a single. My husband and I ended up paying $86, and it definitely wasn't worth the money. Places were very difficult to find because we were heading down to Florida to check on our condo after hurricane Irma. I asked about the price on the sign, and the receptionist told me that that was NOT for a full night and only for 7am-5pm. I'm like, "What??? What kind of place is this?" We'll, she told me that nursing students from the school down the road will sleep there often in between shifts, so they don't charge them full price. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I've heard it all.
We were so tired from the traffic that we didn't have much choice. The room wasn't filthy but it wasn't great either. The bathroom definitely needed work and a thorough cleaning. The room had an OVERPOWERING odor of disinfectant that just made the musty smell all that much worse. It was so strong that my eyes burned. The breakfast was ok and just what one would expect. We will not be returning. Drive another 1/2 hour and stay at the Econolodge in Walterboro. We always do, but unfortunately they didn't have any availability.

Southern Lodge and Ieesha, the manager, are southern hospitality at its finest! Extremely professional and caring. Rooms are spotless, beds and breakfast great. It's older, but exceptional. Thumbs up! Ieesha was a big help and hugged us goodbye, in a world where pleasantries have been forgotten, this was a breath of fresh air!

For a classic lodge stop type hotel/motel, this is fine. The price is right, the room is clean, it's far enough off I-26 and the main road (601) where you don't hear the cars. They offer a basic breakfast, so ask if it's included when you book. The A/C wall unit is kind of loud. It's cool and works, but be prepared for some noise there. Showers, bathroom, general condition of the room is really good for a generally lower end hotel.

Motel was not clean. The room still had candy wrappers around the bed and it smelled. If we had not been so tired and so late, we would have driven on down the road. The outside motel room door was loose and not secure. We did not feel safe. The breakfast was fodder and I do mean "fodder". It is the only motel we ever stayed in that had "whole-Kernal Corn" in a crock-pot for breakfast sitting on the serving bar for BREAKFAST. I kid you not!! In my opinion, this place is "just give us the money." Hospitality is not their strong point.

I don't know the physical addresses, but the one you want to stay at is right off the interstate exit. The other is located closer within the town of Orangeburg. Check the locations of each in the map and you can see clearly which one is which.
