Truth be told. We did not stay there. We were staying on the island and friends asked us to visit the property so that we could give them our feedback if they should book. But that was not allowed by the person who was in charge at the inn that day. Not only did he not allow a visit but also did not offer to provide a brochure or ask if we had any questions. It was a strange encounter from a person who works in hospitality. My suggestion to the owner is to add information to your website that drop in- in person inquiries will not be be accepted. This way you are transparent as to your business practices and people like me do not leave with a bad taste. Needless to say, we did not recommend the inn to our friends. First impressions matter!

This hotel claims to be arrogantly shabby but what it needs it a coat of paint. It has peeling paint all over the hotel making it look like abandoned at least on the outside. Was not impressed with the food. Overall money spent better elsewhere.

I have been vacationing at the Pelican Inn for a while now, and it gets better every year. After a long drive from Atlanta, I know I'm home when I see the European architecture overlooking the marsh. Old, gigantic oak trees surround the parking lot where a long walkway to the private beach, hammocks over the dunes, and the beautiful staircase to the rooms. Right on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, it has gigantic waves and very nice bobbing. So whether you're a wave bobber, a boogie boarder, a diver, or a rider, there's something there for you at the Pelican’s own private beach. Or if you just want to sunbathe, sit under an umbrella, or go up to the beach hammocks, even if you don't want to go swimming, there’s still something to do! And after a long couple of relaxing, (still sandy) hours, there’s nothing better to do than the outdoor showers. Better yet, if your not a swimmer or a sunbather, there’s still the marsh and porch. A little marsh house right on the the river is perfect animal watching for crabs. All sorts of tiny (fiddler) crabs and big (blue) crabs alike are so funny to watch, especially at low tide. A picnic area and hammocks make for a very relaxing time. Sometimes before breakfast and lunch, you just want to chill in the while reading a great book, or make new friends, or catch up with old ones. There is always something to do at the Pelican Inn. So if you love delicious meals, interesting people, relaxing breezes and fun times, then go on down! It

The Taylor family: owners and perfect hosts. Breakfast and Lunch are included and are sumptuous five star meals, perfect for the family and the beach. The ocean front is uncrowded, a gem, ideal for any beach lover. Pawleys Island is cherished by generations of families.

My family and I are regulars at this wonderful bed and breakfast on Pawleys. We love pawleys so much more than the infinitely more crowded Myrtle Beach. The beach is deserted most days. The inn is charming. The food is phenomenal - home cooked southern comfort food. Each day comes with a 830 breakfast and 130 lunch and you really need very little else in terms of meals. It has a private marsh dock for kayaking and crabbing. Hammocks and a common area allow one to mingle with the other guests. My two young kids even love the hospitality. Couldn't ask for a better place at the beach.

We stayed at the Pelican Inn for 2 nights prior to checking in to our beach house rental. I would do this again with out hesitation. The rooms were clean. It is a beautiful bed and breakfast. Meals were fantastic. It has a private creek dock. Plenty of places to relax....the mini fridges on the porch were stuffed full and probably had stuff in there of guests who were no longer there.. We could find any room for out things so we put a cooler on the porch and that worked out fine.

Perfect weekend getaway! The Inn is charming and in a beautiful location. Just a very short walk to the beach, which is nice a private. Love that it is not in a commercial location and surrounded by other local beach houses. And wow the food was outstanding! Only regret is we didn't have more time. We will be back for sure!

I grew up going to Pawley's every summer, & it is a huge part of my childhood. We always stayed in a simple cottage & shared bedrooms & bathrooms. Shared space is what I am used to. Local food & limited "attractions" is what I love. I have always wanted to stay at The Pelican Inn, & I finally did! Our room was quaint and tidy. The sheets & towels were thick & clean. The meals were southern gourmet & served family-style on the porch dining room. The food was incredible! The views from the porches & boardwalk are picturesque. I want to only say the good things, because of the history & my love for Pawley's. However, the bathrooms need to be updated - or at least given a facelift with paint (3 different 70s wallpapers in one small room - one of which was on the ceiling). Enclosing the trash cans & mini-refrigerators that sit on the porch in a reclaimed wood structure, would help to create a more cottage/rustic feel. Who wants to sit in a rocker & look at 2 mini-frigs & 2 black plastic trash cans? This Inn is such an icon, I hope that it gets the loving care it needs to last another 200 years.

The host, Corinne and her husband have rescued and updated the Inn with a love born of knowing the Inn as a child, an adult, and as a couple. They have done needed updates without altering the charm and historical feel of the Inn. Corrine exhibits great joy in preparing the meals (we were treated to both breakfast and lunch) and her enthusiasm produces wonderful meals that are well beyond the expected B&B fare. The Inn is in the Pawleys Island Tradition and should not be confused with a modern, high tech, spa like property. Rather, one is transported back to a simpler time facilitated by the Inn, the grounds, the marsh dock, the beach and of course, the host. It is a refuge where you will find rest, comfort, and warm memories.

The Inn is very interesting in terms of the building itself and its history. You can take the steps under the wonderful live oak canopy to go over the dune to the beach. Or you can cross the street to visit the dock on the sound. The shabby chic of the Inn is comfortable and the owner is a wonderful woman. She cooks outstanding meals too !! Her staff is pleasant and willing to please. Our vacation here was fantastic and we hope to come back !!
