This review is from the perspective of a low handicapper. Hopefully this will be of help as Pawleys Plantation is as breathtaking as it is is difficult.

Pros
Course is well conditioned though in my round, the Bermuda grass was in transition to rye. Fringes were a little furry and greens were not as fast as they could be. They were resort average. They were all small like a typical Nicklaus course. Sand was smooth and consistent and layout was overall impressive. Especially on the back 9. Fairways were soft but we could ride our carts on them. Greens held nicely. Good practice area and generally friendly clubhouse staff.

Cons
The 9th hole is ridiculous. Why Jack Nicklaus would stick a big fat tree in the middle of the fairway is beyond me. The hole is tough enough with OB, narrow fairways and an undulating green with a false front. Pro shop staff was kind of indifferent. Pace of play was slow too. I got paired with a single and we later joined with another twosome that as it turns out was slow. It took us 4:40 to finish. Also while they didn’t bother me, the average golfer might find some holes nearly impossible. No 17 for instance requires a
mid iron over marsh to a shallow bulk headed green. Range balls were included in the green fee but you only got like 15 balls.

First night was fine. The second night I was up at 12:30 am killing a two inch roach. The next day there were roaches on the dining room table. The beds were like sleeping on rocks. They had big lumps in the mattresses. The pool was nice and we were only two miles or so from the beach. The rooms are old and dingy and outdated décor. Carpet was nasty.

Played here twice last week. The golf course is a tough design but usually in decent shape. That's still true for most of the course however one of their signature holes, #13, has a green that should be closed.

Bag guys and starter were great. Very friendly. But there were only 2 bag guys on a day with 220+ golfers. Management needs to pay better attention to staffing needs.

We showed up at the course almost two hours before our tee time so we could eat some lunch and use the practice facility. Service in the pub was beyond slow. Table of 8, we ordered appetizers and basic lunch from the menu. Appetizers took 30 minutes to arrive and when they did they came out with 3 of the 8 meals. Then 3 more meals came maybe 10 minutes later. Then the 7th meal. Then the waitress asked our 8th guy what he had ordered. He told her to forget it. They ended up bringing the 8th meal and taking it off the bill but by then one of our groups had to go to the tee and he had to eat his lunch on the way out the door. Not talking about fine cuisine here, this is burgers and chicken sandwiches and they couldn't get that done in under an hour? The waitress was very polite but that's just unacceptable service. We won't eat there again, which is too bad because otherwise we may have been likely to return.

The room is extremely small, definitely not big enough for four people. The pictures are very deceiving. It is supposed to have two king size beds in it and they are definitely full size beds. The decor is very old and the room smells very bad, like old smoke. No cable, No WiFi it’s very dusty and the carpet is nasty. The phone isn’t working and the bathroom has hair all over it. Their are stains on the walls. On the website allows you to pay a “deposit” when booking but when you come in they ask for another $250.00 “deposit”. The room is cheap for a reason.... and it’s not good. My family and I care into town to celebrate our kids graduation and this is really upsetting. And the room has roaches in it.

Stayed 2 weeks (9/14/20 - 9/25/20) in 14-1A. No time to find alternate accommodations as we had 20 tee times scheduled over a 10 day period. Cob webs on fixtures. Pans in cabinets with grease in them. Blender base but no blender container? Dead cockroaches found in bathroom and bedroom; live cockroaches in living room and bathroom. Last night there we found a bug crawling on my partners leg when laying in bed. Toaster caught on fire....literal flames. Luckily I was standing nearby and extinguished it in the sink. Called Litchfield front desk (they manage the condo rentals) to let them know and their response was, "Okay...." As though she was waiting for me to say something important. I asked if they could get us a new one and she said she would try. We never heard from them again and we did not receive a new toaster. Carpets stained, furniture outdated. Dresser falling apart and drawers fall out. Blinds missing slats and won't turn open. And while they stated on their paper that there would be a coffee starter pack, there was not. That's all I can think of. I would not stay there again. However, the COURSE and COURSE STAFF were amazing!! The starter, Darrell, was top notch! We really enjoyed playing there.

Played golf today. Weather was good and course was in great shape. A lot of fairways are fairly narrow so drives need to be straight especially with houses that line the course. Stopped in for lunch after and round which ended the day nicely. Would definitely come back

Checked in on Friday and stayed the week-end. Had a beautiful 2 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath suite on the 9th golf hole. A large screened in porch with table and chairs. Also a balcony off both bedrooms. The kitchen was fully stocked with pots, pans, dishes, silverware, serving dishes, coffee and tea machines and toaster. Could not have asked for anything better. Front desk was very helpful for the few questions that we had. We will be back again.

We stayed her 10 years ago so we picked it again. In 10 years it looks like nothing has been updated. The blankets and bedspreads look 10 years old. In 4 nights of renting a 2 bedroom suite we killed 6 roaches. The carpets need cleaning, the mats by the doors need to be thrown out they are so dirty. The walls need washing. I went around and cleaned foot or just black marks off walls. The place needs a deap cleaning. When we were checking in 1 couple would not stay because their room was to dirty.

Others in our party had nice places but ours was awful. The owners should be ashamed. Unfortunately you don't get to see them beforehand. Dirty dishes and a dishwasher that didn't clean. Dead bugs all over and dirty rugs. We were there for our son's wedding and it was too complicated to get new lodging.
