Hotel Domestique stands out for its charming ambiance and scenic location, garnering praise for its proximity to nature and tranquil setting conducive to relaxation. While the food and views are highly regarded, some guests feel that the high prices don't always align with the level of service and room amenities provided. The hotel's cleanliness and variety of quality amenities, including those catering to cyclists and a first-class restaurant, are frequently lauded. The attentive and personalized care by the staff is regularly celebrated, though the rooms receive mixed reviews due to maintenance and modernity concerns.

With our daughter at school nearby, we've stayed in about every hotel in Greenville. So when I was looking for something a little more romantic to make up for the lack of pandemic travel, I was stunned to find Hotel Domestique tucked away in the nearby hills. We were welcomed with a glass of sparking wine and showed around.
Location: Beautiful views of the hills and what looked like an old vineyard. There appeared to be a small development of large homes beyond the hotel, but that didn't take away from the lovely views from our room. There's nothing else out there, so we ate dinner and breakfast here.
Hotel: We loved the luxe rustic decor with modern pops of color; really fun. There's also an outdoor pool and hot tub that were open even though it was snowing. A group was using the firepit as well, and the public spaces were comfortable with plenty of seating. There's also a pantry with complimentary snacks, drinks (wine, water, soda) and snacks, as well as coffee in the morning.
Room: We adored the design of the rooms - high ceilings, lovely king bed with tons of feather pillows (I think there were 6!), propane fireplace, robes, etc. The bathroom had a wonderful river stone shower which felt great on my feet, and there were two sinks/vanity areas and a separate toilet. Other details included hand sanitizer and a bedside massager that was extremely powerful!
Food: The restaurant looked attractive, although we opted for room service. There's a nice bar area with limited seating due to Covid; the drinks were fantastic. Room service was prompt; we ordered duck confit and trout - both were outstanding. Breakfast (again room service) was a little less impressive. The tray was bare of butter, jam, salt/pepper or any kind of garnish. It was also cold, but not a big enough deal to send back.
We look forward to returning when we can spend more time outdoors exploring the grounds and nearby hiking. This hotel is very expensive for the area - breakfast was included, but the cost of the room plus dinner would deter me from spending more than one night.

aletheae2018, thank you for letting us know about your stay! We're thrilled you branched out from downtown Greenville and found us tucked away in the hills! We couldn't agree with you more about the luxe rustic décor and are glad you got to experience the rare snow flurries. Apologies we dropped the ball on your room service, and I'll share your feedback with the food and beverage leadership team. We hope to welcome you back from Connecticut soon!

We booked an extended weekend here for our 10 year anniversary and it was spectacular! The service was so personal and friendly, and the small touches like the complimentary guest pantry made this small hotel stand out among others in its class. We splurged for the highest tier room and the mountain views were totally worth it! The on site restaurant was wonderful and servers very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the menu items which stood out to me as well. The location is also excellent, it's 30 minutes from Greenville which has a great downtown area for food and the beautiful falls park, and 10-20 minute drive from the many gorgeous hikes and scenery we did while we were there. I would definitely return for another relaxing, kid free getaway in the future.

This is a beautiful hotel and landscape with exceptional service and amenities. The rooms where comfortable and luxurious. The entire hotel is beautifully decorated and the views are lovely. We hired a cyclist as a guide up to Ceasar's Head and Ben was great. Also loved how the bike tech cleaned the bikes on return and the staff washes the stinky bike clothes. Restaurant 17 is quite lovely and delicious as well. Hope to return soon.

tollyspengler, we really appreciate you taking the time to write a review of your experience! Hopefully you got great pics of the landscape at sunset. We couldn’t be more pleased hearing how things went with Ben and I’ll make sure the Kudos gets passed along to him, as well as the bike cleaners, the stinky bike clothes washers and the Restaurant 17 team. If I could be of any future assistance, please reach out chris@hoteldomestique.com. Thank you so much!

We had been looking forward to our stay at Hotel Domestique for quite some time and have been following along on Instagram since its beginnings. Four of us (girl's trip) arrived to find that the website allowed us to book four adults in a single king bed room. Despite two of us having to sleep on the floor (one on a roller bed and another on an air mattress), we were hopeful that the rest of our experience would meet our expectations. Unfortunately, it did not. At the time of our booking, the nightly rate exceeded $500, and for that price, we would have expected the curtains to be fixed (they were broken and dangling off), the shutters and room to be dusted, the soap and body wash to be stocked, and for room service to visit daily, especially since we requested it upon arrival. We were offered complimentary champagne upon arrival but never received it. Instead, the restaurant staff rudely rushed us away from the outside tables claiming dinner reservations would be arriving soon (they were hours away). We have never been approached or spoken to the way he spoke to us by professionals. When we discovered we had not received room service, we asked for it and for them to remove the extra beds since we had been set up with a second room. When we finally made it back upstairs, we arrived to our room to find our door WIDE OPEN. The cleaning staff had forgotten to shut our door whilst our belongings were inside. The door could not have opened any wider. We have NEVER experienced anything like this anywhere. For this price, we would have hoped to have few issues, and potentially other amenities like a mini fridge in each room. The second room was less dirty, but we could effortlessly see that it had not been properly cleaned in some time.

The restaurant had incredible food and was the saving grace of our time at the hotel. Besides being charged for drinks at breakfast, we loved all of our food and were happy to have found one part of our trip that exceeded our expectations.

What a beautiful, private location for the Hotel Domestique! From minute you make reservations to the warm greeting when you get there, this hotel is 5 stars. Loved the access to drinks and snacks a stones throw from your room. There is an option for in room breakfast (note this is a $10 charge each time) and a made to order breakfast (free). We highly recommend the vegetarian omelet! We stayed in the Lombarde or the bride's suite. The room had the most amazing views of the mountains. The fireplace and big cozy chairs along with the "just right" king-sized bed, made this a go-to return for us. We ate at the 17 and it was delicious, and after they lit a firepit, so we could sip on a beverage and chat fireside. HIghly recommend this location. Please note if you book a room on the second floor you will need to carry your luggage up a narrow stairwell or up the outside stairs to your room, there is no elevator and no bell hop to help (the front desk person helped and offered but my husband felt uncomfortable asking a lady to help or carry our luggage, so pack light or make sure you are able-bodied).

The restaurant was not as nice as a typical Marriott or Hyatt restaurant. Nice to have a full menu complimentary breakfast. Sold as a 4 Star restaurant, NO WAY! Many amenities were lacking on resources in the room, No information as to where and what was available. No room service menu. No TV guide, No water glasses. No local area informational brochure. During Covid there should not have been large containers of shampoo, conditioner and body wash. These should have been replaceable after each guest, or for the cost of the room give me the large containers! The toilet needed tightening to the floor. It is a beautiful location. Staff is very cordial, but not always informed. I would go back if it was half the price.

@Diva3inFrance, Thank you for taking the time to write about your recent stay. I hear your concerns with your experience. We had removed all printed material from the rooms, so that we would not have multiple guests touching these items. We are currently designing an updated Guest Directory book which will be returning to the rooms as soon as possible. We should have done a better job communicating all there is to offer, verbally, with you in the meantime. Our rooms are disinfected daily, including all of the shower amenity products. We do have single use shower amenities on site as well, for guests who prefer them. We will take your concerns into consideration while we work to improve our establishment. I apologize for your experience, and will make sure that we elevate our establishment to ensure that this doesn't occur again.

Hotel Domestique is a wonderful property, very nice rooms and a wonderful restaurant that is attached. It was perfect for us as we were in town looking at real estate nearby. The hotel caters to the bicycling crowd so was pretty quiet in December, but in season I imagine is pretty busy. Each room comes with a massage machine to treat achy 💪

From the moment I discovered this highly unique lux property through a travel publication I knew I had to experience it. After speaking to Maggie on the phone back in January I immediately booked my 4 night stay for March. Upon arrival a few weeks ago I was truly taken with this property and the beautiful foothills setting in which it rests. I traveled with my dachshund who I believe was just as taken with this property lol. Upon check in it was my luck and pleasure to meet Maggie who was so incredible throughout my stay. She and Sofia immediately hit it off! My room, which had French pane windows that swung open letting that amazing crisp and cool air in, faced the mountains and my fireplace was on for almost the entire trip. Surreal. Complimentary coffee and tea are available every morning in the guest pantry for those early risers as well as bottled water, soft drinks, wine and snacks throughout the day and evening. Breakfast each morning at their Restaurant 17 was the beginning of each day offering locally sourced farm to table herbs and veggies to compliment my omelets. The very charming historic downtown Travelers Rest is home to some very "foodie" and organic options as well. Impressive. My only complaint is that my totally relaxing experience was just too short! I look forward to returning to this splendid property in the fall!

The hotel is small and quiet with top quality service. Wonderful rooms, a great restaurant and spectacular location. For a cyclist this location has so many routes from the front door. The cycling camps they host are well run and no cyclist is left behind. We will definitely be visiting again.

We stayed two nights with a group and had a wonderful time. From reception on Friday evening to check out on Sunday morning, staff could not have been more helpful.

The breakfast each morning was a treat, with house made pastries and specialty egg dishes. Service was attentive; and the setting, with a view of the valley was a nice way to begin the day.

Our room was clean and large with two comfortable beds, a balcony with a view of the vineyard, and a fireplace. Good quality linens and towels. The bathroom was a bit dark, but there was a great walk in shower with plenty a hot water and good water pressure.

We had group dinners both nights and the restaurant staff provided great service and the kitchen served up wonderful meals.

I am not sure about access to hiking immediately adjacent to the resort. The Greenville watershed is spectacular and is featured on several of the organized rides, but there is extreemly limited public access as it serves as the water supply for Greenville- cars arent even allowed to stop along the roads through the watershed as the state doesnt want people trashing the area. The staff at the hotel and the ride guides are all local and I am sure they'd know about non-cycling activities in the area and could recommend. It would be hard to imagine there are not other things to do there. The staff is truly wonderful, they are all about making your stay fantastic
