I picked this off the internet with some trepidation. Described as a hidden gem - translation= the back of beyond! It was delightfully located just outside the village of Grange with magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. We had a garden room with comfortable bed, ensuite wet room - ideal for me with limited mobility, and with a seating area... More

Getting to Borrowdale takes time but so worthwhile and beautiful. The hotel is a 5 minute waLk from the village in lovely grounds. Public areas are immaculately maintained and comfortable. The roaring fire lends atmosphere BUT in September it was far too hot in the hotel. Our room was unbearably hot even with wjndiws open and with a fan provided... More

My wife and I spent 3 nights here last week at a cost of approximately £100 per person per night for D, B&B. I would class this as expensive but it was well worth the price. The hotel is a converted country house sitting at the southern end of Derwentwater in an area that Wainwright called "the most beautiful square... More

Had a lovely time. Beautiful setting for a hotel. The inside is nice but the setting and food are the winners here. Very nice staff too. Going to make it an annual 'date'. Husband and I visited 21years ago as our first weekend away as boyfriend and girlfriend 😘

Popped in to get a bite of lunch on Thursday last week and although in our walking gear we were made very welcome.A pleasant surrounding and a very cheerfull young man served us. Well presented food and good strong tea and coffee.just the job for a 7 mile walk back home.

The Borrowdale Gates Hotel is beautifully located, very well-presented and most comfortable. The menu is imaginative, with an excellent variety on both the regular and specials menus. The dining room is spacious, bright and has superb views. The staff are attentive, efficient and keen to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. This hotel deserves the highest praise.

This hotel is wonderful , lovely and cosy for an Autumn break. We were there for 4 nights. Set in beautiful scenery. Rooms clean and comfortable, food amazing. Staff friendly and helpful. One thing though the bar and dining room are in desperate need of some gentle background music!!! There can be silences that are a bit awkward!! Overall fantastic... More

The hotel was clean and tidy and very isolated but the area was full of wildlife - particularly birds. Room was okay but bed and pillows a bit uncomfortable, view from balcony was amazing. Staff were kind and helpful - food was good and service excellent. Maybe clientale was a bit older than us! Pillows were amazingly soft which we... More
