Of all the hotels in all the cities in all the world, we stumbled into the absolute craziest set up for a hotel imaginable. This hotel is definitely geared for the younger age group: think 20-35. But, we rolled the dice and gave it a go anyways. Just walking into the lobby, one will notice the quirkiness that isn’t found in your normal Marriott, or any other hotel we’ve come across. Chattanooga, like many of these southern cities, is refurbishing its downtown areas, and The Moxy is done up well to that notion. There’s signs of a vintage feel to this building, and the others nearby. It’s cool to see the renovations of these older buildings, as opposed to the tearing down effect, that just doesn’t do justice. Take some time to walk the nearby streets and get a sense of the rich history, that’s still growing. “Check in” itself is quite different too; as in, you check in at the lobby bar; and yes, with the bartenders. But it goes smoothly; and you get a couple of tokens for a couple of redeemable house made cocktails. And yes, the drinks are actually really good. In fact, the lobby bar is kind of the central landing spot of the hotel. Everything starts here; from check in to drinks, snacks, and anything else one needs. Note: Don’t forget to tip those bartenders. You’ll notice, they notice.... Service: This one is easy... The staff here is super attentive, and super friendly. From the valet, to the bartender, and on to the cleaning staff, this is truly some of the best service we’ve had; especially in this price range. Hopefully management and ownership have noticed this as well. Amenities are a bit hit or miss. There’s no pool, or spa; and sadly, no restaurant. But the lobby does have a pool table, and an array of other games to occupy your time. And there’s a ton of lounging areas inside and out, to relax, read, or whatever. There’s even a small number of books available in a small library area; and even a small computer area, if your need be. Oh, there’s also a really cool workout room that is open 24/7. The outdoor seating area, which is divided into a covered patio and an open patio, was actually pretty relaxing, especially during the afternoon storm. I do feel a pool and spa area would certainly be a nice addition. Though there’s no restaurant, there’s quite a selection of good eateries within walking distance; with one of the best restaurants in the whole city, directly across the street. The rooms here are a bit different as well. First, they are smaller than normal, including the bathroom. But you really don’t notice it once you get settled. There’s no closet, but there are probably a hundred pegs or hooks on the wall for hanging. This is where you’ll find the folded tables hanging as well. The beds in our double room are positioned back to back: There’s a huge long round leather pillow, used as a headboard of sorts, separating the beds. All n all, it’s one of the neatest layouts I’ve seen. The bathroom, which is modern but classy, and complete with a walk-in shower, has everything one needs. Water pressure wasn’t the best, but no real complaints. Unfortunately, all wasn’t great. This is a dog friendly hotel, and that’s no problem. The problem is, there’s a bit too much of an open policy. During this very rainy 2 day stay, there were numerous dogs inside and outside, lounging on nearly every piece of otherwise usable furniture, making it very difficult to find a place to sit. And the extreme amount of dogs led to an unusual amount of wet dog smell, especially on the elevators. Now, I’m not a dog lover, but I don’t have anything against anyone who is: I’m just not sure why one would drag their dog into someone else’s holiday and space.... anyways, not the end of the world. To a lesser degree, there’s no ice or vending machine on any floor: One has to go down to the bar just to get ice. Also, towels n washcloths took forever to get replaced upon request; we were told they’re way behind on getting the hotel laundry caught up. In conclusion: We really like this hotel, for its unique style and variation from the norm; but I’m only rating it a 4 overall: mainly due to a couple of those tidbits, and lack of a couple of amenities. I do recommend giving this place a try for yourself, if you’re visiting downtown Chattanooga. Note: I didn’t notice, but did read about it after our stay; but, apparently at one point recently, they had a sign saying something to the fact: they didn’t care what the rules were, or what anyone thinks, masks must be worn at their hotel at all times(even though TN has relaxed its rules)... Now, Had we seen that, we would’ve definitely switched hotels at that very moment.... But honestly, I didn’t see the sign, or it was removed beforehand; but it definitely wasn’t up when we were there.... In addition, like most, I feel the customer is by far, the most important item in hospitality; and that an establishment should, and even more so, better care what it’s patrons think or feel.

I absolutely love the Moxy located in downtown Chattanooga! They are open, inviting, and gracious to all who come in their doors! Customer service is great, attention to detail is great, and an overwhelming atmosphere of love and acceptance is GREAT! We need more places like this in Chattanooga and other cities! Also, if you haven’t had the “got moxy”, you’re totally missing out! ❤️

I am a huge fan of all Marriott properties....usually. Know this, I liked this hotel. The check in was super easy, and AJ the bartender and the one that checked me in was fantastic. Friendly and welcoming. The free cocktail was super delicious. The decor of the lobby area is really cool. Hip, chic, and funky all at the same time. The rooms are decorated really nicely and they are comfortable and small compared to most other Marriott properties. (At least the room I was given.) The area is also very cool. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance. A couple of complaints: my room was facing a busy street so I had to listen to firetrucks, police cars and ambulances all night, along with loud cars and motorcycles. (Hint: make sure the room is on the backside of the hotel.) The walls are very thin. I could easily hear the TV in the next room and the flushing of toilets as well. I could also hear the conversations very clearly. The service here is fantastic. Everyone I talked to was super friendly. The reason for three stars? Noisy room.

Room Tip: Get a room on the backside of the hotel overlooking the parking lot, not the street.

Hey there eporter0006, Thanks for the review! We love that you gave us props for our awesome staff, decor, and check-in. But we're bummed that we didn't measure up in some areas. We appreciate you shooting straight with us, and we really take your comments to heart. We're sad that your experience with us was less than awesome due to excessive noise. We are grateful for your patience and we're glad you decided to give us a shot! Play On!

We are Marriott Ambassadors which means we live in hotels. This is a good one and one you should try. Great bar! Great outside patio and simply fun. You can also walk to several great restaurants. The gym is also great. Don’t miss it.
