I went here in January and I did not realize that the city was hosting a cheerleading competition and the Read Hotel was obviously hosting them. It was very crowded, which the hotel cannot help. However, they could have enforced social distancing, mask wearing, which they did not. So there were wall-to-wall people some with masks, some without. The lady at the desk asked if I'd like an upgrade. I paid for the upgrade. Let me tell you, I don't know what I upgraded to because room was average. The bathroom has a sliding door in the main room providing little privacy. You could hear people all through the halls. I could hear the elevator and the muzak that they pump through the halls all night during the night, making it difficult to sleep. You can hear the muzak in the rooms, so please, it is not necessary to have that playing 24 hours a day. It was a disappointment, I have to say.

The overall review for this hotel is a 10 if I could give it! The beds were very comfortable and loved the bathroom! We also took the tour of the infamous haunted room where someone was murdered and Al Capone stayed during his trial. The decor and the building itself reminds me of the 1920s. Even the Bell Hop outside wore a hat to match. This is a great place to get away for a night or two for relaxation, indoor pool, room service, pool table, and bar. All safety precautions were made bc of the COVID pandemic and felt very comfortable. Also, having a Starbucks down stairs made it even better! I can’t wait to come back for pleasure instead of business!

This hotel is the best for luxury and convenience. Newly renovated with all the older hotel glamour..it stands as something to be relaxed at! The staff at the hotel are all very caring and even thru the COVID they have made it better. They take extra care to make guests feel safe. The story about the 311 room also makes it charming and unique. The billiard room and library take you back in time also. I would love to stay here again!!

Very impressed with this Hotel. Quite large and beautifully decorated. Loved the billiard room. Also, had a great tour guide, Matt, who told us all about room 311. Loved the hotel and time spent there. Hopefully we’ll be back there again sometime.

We selected The Read House to celebrate my birthday this year. Our room was located in The Manor and was spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed the beautiful lobby area and billiards room before dinner at Bridgeman’s Chophouse. We had a minor issue with the room and the staff at The Read House listened and rectified the issue to our satisfaction. I highly recommend this beautiful historic hotel.
