We have just spent 3 nights at the Castle Inn (birthday weekend) 2 adults and 2 little dogs. What can I say.. We LOVE this inn. From the minute you arrive, you're welcomed with friendly faces and a beautiful bar and friendly chat. The bar has such an amazing charm. There is a snug if you want to take your... More

A small, quiet village with a very busy pub! Stayed in Lydford for two nights and ate on both evenings in the The Castle Inn. The service and food were first rate and can see why it's so busy even midweek! I guess the gorge brings people into the village and possibly the very small "castle" but once you have... More

Found this place yesterday having visited the Gorge, and what a lovely place it is. We arrived literally before last orders were being taken for food in the afternoon, but we weren't rushed into ordering anything and they accommodated us really well. The staff were all very pleasant and welcoming, and even our little dog was welcomed. Food was great,... More

Wow what a little gem. After a lovely walk round the gorge we decided to stop here for lunch. The food is fantastic, homemade pate with toast very filling & beautiful, panfried halloumi with chilli jam stunning & very fresh. Main slow cooked belly pork (the best I've had in a long time) My partner had grilled gammon with pineapple... More

Good beers and an excellent menu including a large specials board. For a local village pub it is quite big and seems to be well supported by the locals. Prices are very reasonable. There is car park at the rear plus a local free car park opposite

Just got back from a short 4 night stay at The Castle Inn, whilst taking a riding holiday at nearby Meldon Farm. It is just as good as before, but with an even warmer welcome as a returning guest! My room was cosy and quiet with a great view of Dartmoor, the food really good value, with a varied choice... More

We stopped in for lunch - and if we hadn't planned on being miles away later in the day, we would have stayed for dinner. The atmosphere is beautiful, the staff is attentive and the menu is great - good for both carnivores & veggies.

We had two lovely family meals here - after cycling the Granite Way (Lydford to Oakhampton), and walking Lydford Gorge. Great pub food - all the dishes we tried were really tasty and well cooked on both occasions . Wide choice. The scallops were particularly excellent! The deserts were also really nice. Well kept beer. Staff were pleasant and attentive.... More

Just to say we popped in here on the way to do the cyle path, and were met by very friendly staff and amazing pub food! I had the steak and blue cheese pie, and it was filled to the brim with steak in a proper pastry top and bottom crust! It was heavenly. By far the best pie I... More

4 of us had our evening meal, we walked from the local campsite. Easy strolling distance. Good pub grub, fairly priced but not amazing food. Service could have been better, we had to ask for desert menu but they were very busy. We have eaten here a few times before and been delighted, on this occasion it was just ok.... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Castle Inn is a traditional 16th-century inn situated in Lydford, on the Western slopes of Dartmoor National Park. Built in 1550, its plain pink exterior offers no clues as to what awaits you inside. It oozes with character from every nook and cranny. The lamp-lit bar with low, bowed ceilings, many curios, slate floors and an open fire, the lovely snug with high backed settles and the charming restaurant with beamed ceiling. There is a pretty garden to the back of the inn with more seating and views of the castle. Whether you fancy a pint of Tribute and a chat with the locals, a quick bite to eat or a full meal, the the Castle Inn offers wonderful food and drink in comfortable and relaxing surroundings. Children are very welcome as are dogs on leads. ... more   less
