Given all of the 5 star reviews a 4 star rating might suggest that we weren't completely happy with our stay. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Old Rectory is a wonderful place, not perfect (and therefore 5 stars) but certainly worthy of a stay for anyone. The location of the hotel is exceptional for walking. The coast...

We visited The Old Rectory to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday, feel relaxed and generally be spoilt for the weekend and we weren't disappointed. Sam and all the staff pay attention to detail and make you feel very welcome. The rooms are modern but feel cosy and the food is to die for. I personally enjoyed the fact that canapes...

Everything was carried out to an excellent standard. The food and drinks were very good. If a gin drinker many different varieties to try. The hotel was comfortable and friendly. It felt very much like a home from home. Would certainly return.

Everything you would hope for in a small intimate boutique hotel. Lovely period house with 3 beautifully presented receptions (2 cosy lounges and a wonderful new orangery/ conservatory) The perfect antidote to impersonal chain hotels with disinterested staff. We had a lovely stay.

My friend and I have just returned from a most delightful week at The Old Rectory. A warm welcome awaits with tea and home made cake, yum yum. The hotel itself is charming, tasteful decor, warm, clean and comfortable. Drinks and canapés are served in the conservatory at 6.45 pm and dinner is served by 8 pm., in one sitting...

Peace and quiet in a beautiful hotel in a lovely part of North Devon. Nothing was too much trouble for Hugh and Sam and their team. Good food and wine, also an interesting Gin menu. This hotel has an armful of awards which are well deserved.

A delightful small country house hotel set beautiful gardens. Our very large suite was luxurious Canapes in the lovely conservatory preceded well cooked, varied & well presented meals. At all times the staff were most helpful & efficient. The owners, who made us feel completely at home, deserve high praise for a really first class set up.

Our second visit to The Old Rectory where we received a warm welcome back from Sam and Huw the owner's of this tranquil boutique hotel. Our room, the Beeches was spacious and immaculately presented and situated upstairs in the Coach House just a few steps away from the main house. The gardens have been beautifully landscaped with a raised decking...

Brilliant B&B of the highest standard. A must is the afternoon tea and scones or cake from 3:30-4:30pm each day. Magnificent garden and conservatory to while away any spare time one might have. Food was of the highest order (4 course dinners)

It's always interesting to visit a hotel which is so highly rated and to compare the glowing reviews with our own subjective experience. On more than one occasion we have been bitterly disappointed (see my other reviews for details). I'm really happy to announce that this wasn't one of those. From the initial ebullient welcome from Sam to the equally...
