Called in this week on a lovely sunny day to get a drink and light snack at lunchtime after a long walk. Told we cannot order without connecting to wifi, I had no phone and my partner has a very old phone which would not connect. Daniel was very helpful and did get us connected and had to read us the menu as we could not see the screen in the bright sunlight. Food was average, ploughmans was ok but with some very soggy slimey carrots, the baggette certainly was not wholemeal. The table next to us joined after we had ordered and smoked the whole time we were eating which was unpleasant. Would not be able to go here again as I do not carry a phone when out for a days walk so no possibility of ordering or any provision in place to cater for non phone freaks. 5 stars for Daniels help but this would not have been possible if it was busy, but as an overall experience it was not good.

This review is not for us but for the Bankes Arms Inn based in Studland. We are the Bankes Arms Hotel in Corfe Castle about five miles up the road. We believe in taking tableside orders with a good old fashioned pen and paper. We hope you will pop in and see us when you are next in the village. Kindest regards, George

I have stayed December 2019 and then visited last Sunday with friends. The roast was so good along with the service that I have just booked us a mini summer holiday. The rooms are spacious and the beds are very comfortable. Nothing is too much trouble for the team and it has a lovely warm welcome. 100% go and have a great time! Thanks to George and the team for Sunday and looking forward to my summer stay.

We booked for lunch at the Bankes Arms thinking we had to due to Covid restrictions. When we turned up, a table had not been reserved but this didn’t matter as there were plenty available. We chose one and waited for a menu. After about 10 minutes one was brought and our drinks order taken. The drinks arrived a little later and our food order was taken after my husband prompted the waitress to take it. We waited. It was sunny and we were out for the day so we weren’t impatient. We waited a little longer. After an hour we asked if there was a problem with the food. Apparently not - the waitress had just forgotten to give the order to the kitchen. When the food eventually came it was ok; a little cold but that was to be expected. The hotel was not under staffed. There were plenty of young people wandering around; they just weren’t interested in serving a couple of grey haired old people.

Thank you for leaving your review. We are disappointed that you did not have a good visit. All of the staff are trying very hard as we have reopened and sometimes a simple till error can through the whole service process. A little leeway would always be appreciated in recognition of the effort that they are making. We hope that you will try us again and see why we get such positive feedback and so many repeat customers wether they have grey hair or not. Kindest regards, George

My wife and I dropped in for coffee before noon after a long walk from Ulwell. We were welcomed when the pub opposite had turned us away. I ordered the cod fish finger sandwich and it was the best I have ever had - made with care and attention to deal- you might even call it “love”. My wife loved the lemon brioche pudding. The pub had a lovely atmosphere with open fire and a great old world vibe but with good service. I will definitely be back on our regular walks on the incomparable Purbeck.

We came to the bankes arms for my boyfriends birthday. We had a delicious lunch, fabulous service in a nice, cosy and safe restaurant. The host was fantastic. We wish you well during this hard time and looking forward to supporting more small businesses where we can. Keep up the good work. Sophie and James x
