Stayed overnight 19th and 20th April, just back. Beautiful location, nicely kept gardens with al fresco dining a possibility. We were lucky enough to benefit from gorgeous sunshine for the whole time. Our suite was lovely with clean, modern furnishings and door out to balcony for viewing sea and sunsets. Will definitely be back despite a couple of downsides -...

stayed over the weekend of 17th April on a deal with a supplement. £119 For a 2 night weekend for 2 with breakfast included is an amazing bargain. Room was great as were staff. Food was good but menu needs some work. Prices very fair all in all a very enjoyable experience. Will certainly return. Owner is very charming and...

We visited this hotel on 17th to 19th of April 2015 with friends. We found thi to be a stunning location, right on the beach where we could watch the seals basking in the sunshine we were so lucky to get on our little break. The hotel was lovely , our rooms were beautiful, with towels changed every day. The...

Staying in the campsite in next field, we ate and drank in the Kildonan Hotel several times during our stay. Staff were helpful and engaging, we enjoyed a couple of local bands in the bar, food very good and before we left we enjoyed lunch in the hotel garden in blazing sunshine looking across at Ailsa Craig. Will definitely be...

Having read the reviews about Kildonan Hotel, my wife and I went with great expectations. The weather for our trip over Easter was perfect, and so glossed over what must be said are some fairly average components of this ideally located property. We stayed in room 11, with balcony and sea view. The room was nice, and the view was...

This hotel has one of the best views in Arran especially from the main restaurant but the hotel in general needs some TLC no complaints about food and staff all very nice this could be one of my favourite hotels because of the setting

Set in a quite stunning location this hotel has clearly had heavy investment in the past with attractive gardens, outside sitting, bar and restaurant areas that are just looking a little shabby. Service at the bar was extremely slow although staff were pleasant. Drinks were, unexpectedly, expensive with guiness being a can rather than draft which was disappointing. Food was...

Stayed here for the second time at the end of March. The location is second to none, food was great and the room was immaculately clean and ample for 4 of us and a dog. Over the years we have visited Arran many times, staying in b&bs, hotels and holiday homes, but the Kildonan would be my first choice every...

Stayed here with family over Easter weekend to celebrate my nephews 21st. Weather glorious - spent all Saturday outside at the lovely outdoor table settings. We had a fabulous room upstairs which we shared with our 2 youngest children (they had a sofa bed) The room was large with a huge window / door facing out to the sea. Balcony...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Unwind and forget your troubles at our small, family run hotel. Built in the 17th Century, it is one of the 7th oldest licensed Inns in Scotland and historically a destination that families have aspired to visit for well over 100 years. Perched on the southern-most tip of Arran with panoramic views to die for, the hotel is located right on the seafront, the beach literally stone's throw away. Overlooking the Firth of Clyde we are right in the middle of a unique eco-system with a plethora of wildlife. We have seals basking daily on the rock jetties off-shore, otters feeding and playing on the rocks and gannets diving non-stop through the day. We are also fortunate to have occasional basking sharks and dolphins visiting in the summer months and an array of birds-of-prey including eagles, peregrines, buzzards and more... Pladda Island sits directly across the sound with its recognisable lighthouse and ever changing silhouette playing host to a large colony of seagulls and gannets. And of course the famous Ailsa Craig, 'Paddy's Milestone', a bird sanctuary now but is renowned for its granite which is still used for curling stones today. The interior is fully refurbished, still maintaining some the quaint characteristics of old, while the tasteful addition of extended bistro and lounge area with floor to ceiling windows allow residents and diners to gaze for miles over a cup of tea, breakfast or an evening meal. ... more   less
