The BEST WESTERN Moorings Hotel provides the magic near Motherwell! Built in 1891 as the private home for a member of a famous Scottish steel dynasty, our beautiful main building has held its charm and offers a unique, understated and timeless air of refinement to this day. The surroundings are undeniably chic, but the overall ambience remains humble enough to be homely. A "B" listed building within a local conservation area, BEST WESTERN Moorings Hotel has built on its 19th century roots to meet 21st century needs and provides guests with classic character. We still have some of the original stained glass windows, and our hospitality is traditional and unintrusive.

Hotel's Favourite
We stayed one night and found the full Scottish breakfast( ( poached egg done to perfection ) one of the best we’ve ever had.-compliments to duty chef RICHARD -on the day
and fantastic treatment from Nicola at the reception.
It’s one of our favourite stop overs and I was pleasantly surprised by the massive improvement of the quality breakfast. Well done Moorings.👏👏👏

+1
Upon arrival we were amazed by how beautiful the outside of the hotel was, and even more amazed by how clean the inside was! The lady on the front desk, Kirsty, was extremely polite and welcoming and was very informative about the recent changes to the hotel in accordance to the Covid guidelines. When we entered our room, we immediately took our shoes off because the carpet was so soft! The room was so clean and aesthetically pleasing. The walk in shower was really spacious and even though we were right by a main road the external noise wasn’t that loud. At tea time we were given the option of having a paper menu or scanning a QR code that took us to a website with the menu on. The waiting staff were so welcoming and couldn’t do enough for you (we didn’t take their names but they were brilliant). Personally I felt the value for money for the food was incredible. Breakfast was also extremely delicious (the tattie scones and black pudding took my partner back to his Scottish upbringing). If we were to complain about one thing it would be how the doors slam but that’s more down to the guests than the hotel. Overall a great stay and we will definitely be returning in the future. Definitely worth the money, I don’t get how it’s only rated 3 stars!!!

We stayed at the Moorings to break the journey from Inverness to the south coast. The hotel is located about 1 mile from the M74 and is easily accessible from the motorway. There is a large, no pay, car park and when we stayed there were plenty of spaces.
Check in was very efficient and the COVID measures were explained. Bookings for both evening meal and breakfast were taken to ensure that social distancing could be maintained in the bar \ restaurant.
Rooms have been recently refurbished and our bedroom was large and nicely furnished. Bed was super soft and very comfortable. There was no bath but there was a large walk in shower in the spotless bathroom.
Tea and coffee was provided in a prepacked pouch which also contained very nice biscuits.
We ate in the hotel in the evening. Menu was typical of fare in offer in a bar restaurant with a good choice of the usual favourites. Service was quick and efficient and the meals were served very quickly. As is my norm I had the fish and chips and this was very good indeed
Breakfast was served at the table but curiously there was no menu, or options offered apart from a choice of tea or coffee. Once seated we were brought a ready prepared tray with tea, coffee, toast, fruit juice and 2 packets of cereal. We were informed that our cooked breakfast would be served shortly, but again no options were offered. Something had clearly gone amiss with the tray preparation as there was 1 cereal bowl, 1 napkin and 1 spoon and no side plates 2 small portions of butter and 4 large portions of jams and marmalade. The waitress was very helpful and quickly brought the missing items when asked. The cooked breakfast was the low point of the stay. The bacon was excellent, nicely cooked and presented, the sausage was pale and barely cooked and looked microwaved, the haggis was soft and again appeared microwaved, the scrambled eggs were overdone and did not appear freshly made, the potato scone had been griddled and overdone, but the mushrooms were fresh and beautifully cooked. My wife had enquired if there was a healthy alternative to the “full Scottish” and was given well prepared and beautifully presented plate of fruit and yoghurt. We did wonder how the kitchen could produce plates of such contrasting quality.
Would we stay there again? Yes, as it is close to the motorway and a great location to split a journey. The hotel represented great value and the rooms were excellent and once things return to normal the quality of the breakfasts will hopefully rise to match what is on offer throughout the hotel.

The Moorings is really our local.Use regularly, also book for functions etc. No complaints re staff quality of food etc but as evenings and weekends often very poorly patronised isn't it time Best Western asked themselves why? Before writing this review spoke with a great number of local people, all of same opinions
The actual set lunchtime menu stays the same continually which if a frequent visitors becomes extremely boring. I do agree though there are also a choice of sandwiches/snacks that you can have from main menu
What is really so disappointing is the A La Carte Menu A number of dishes from lunch menu included in this. If you are out as a couple or in a party at the weekend you don't expect to see Cumberland Sausage and Mash or similar on the menu On our last Sat evening visit for dinner I had Sirloin Steak. Arrived hot and tasted quite nice but presentation poor. Big plate making the steak look pretty insignigicany, small bucket of chips and half a tomatoe. That was it with exception of a stringy bit of some kind of cress. Without ordering extra sides surely at least a bit more tomatoe or a few mushrooms would have been in order? Again Dessert Menu pretty repetitive with dishes same as lunch menu included.
After dinner we like to sit on in bar for a couple of drinks. No cocktails whatsoever served!!! Why in a big chain of hotels is this?
Unsure of your clientele of residents but I can assure you the number of diners would be greatly increased with a more impressive menu and a little bit of atmosphere like a pianist or singer at weekends.

I stayed at The Moorings as I wanted to break my journey from Scotland back to the south of England. The hotel is located close to the M74 and is ideal location for easy access to and from the motorway. I stayed on a Friday night and found booking online to be impossible as the website stated while accommodation was available they did not accept a single night stays and a second night could not be booked as the hotel was full. A quick phone call resolved the problem
There is a good sized, free carpark at the hotel
Check in was straight forward with friendly staff who made me very welcome. The hotel has a pre-order system for breakfast to reduce waiting times and food waste by ensuring only what is required is cooked at the required time. I was given the pre-order form at check in and asked to return later in the evening.
The hotel is a converted mansion and has retained much of its character, but it does mean the route to the rooms can be a bit tortuous. My room was on the first floor and was clean and nicely furnished in a style consistent with the character of the hotel. It was rather dark due to the more muted tones of the décor and bedding.
Tea , coffee and biscuits were provided and WiFi was freely available and adequate for normal email traffic and web browsing.
The bathroom was compact but well provisioned with toiletries and soft towels. The over bath shower was efficient with a plentiful supply of hot water
The cooked Scottish breakfast was good and the pre-order system worked well. A slight drawback is that the pre-order system does not permit you to “swap” items around as it is essentially yes / no for each item. If additional items are ordered they are charged as an extra.
Buffet choices for cereals and fruit were rather limited. Tea and coffee were served to the table in pots as was the choice of white or brown toast. A pleasure to not have to brew your own drinks and man the slow mo, multi-pass toaster.
As always I enjoyed my stay and will be back when next heading south on the M74

We had one night at "The Moorings, Best Western", in Motherwell as we were attending a concert in neighbouring Hamilton, We had a basic room which was very clean, with a comfortable bed. The bathroom was on the small side, but for one night it was not a problem. I did struggle because of movement problems, as there was no walk in shower, just one over the bath, but if you have no issues with health etc. you should not find this a problem. There was enough storage/hanging space for a short visit, & a hairdryer, was also provided. There is also tea/coffee & biscuits in the room. Our only issue in the room, (No. 4), was there was some sort of air conditioning unit just outside in the back yard, but to be honest, it didn't bother me very much, my husband found it a bit annoying, but it didn't stop any sleep at night. The only other minor issue was that we returned to the hotel after the concert to find the bar had closed at 10.30, so we were unable to get a refreshing drink, so if you want to finish the night off with a drink, find somewhere outside, which is difficult, as it appears this area is residential, or bring your own.
We ordered a breakfast as an extra, & we were able to choose the evening before, which items you wanted to eat/drink. This was a good breakfast, all we needed to start the day.
The staff were really lovely, friendly & helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

We’ve just returned from a two night stay and we would definitely return. The room was perfectly clean, bed comfortable, the shower pressure was incredible and the towels soft and fluffy. In the current Covid climate everything felt incredibly safe, there’s a one way system, plenty of hand gel available and all staff were wearing masks.
All the staff we spoke to were incredibly kind and helpful but I would just like to especially mentioned the lady who was working on reception both nights. She was exceptionally helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
Breakfast was perfect, first we were served cereals, toast with a selection of jams and marmalade, hot drinks and then a full breakfast. Everything was tasty and really set us up for the day and then long drive home.
The building itself is beautiful and has a really interesting history. It’s all on the wall in reception and is definitely worth a read!
When we return to Motherwell we will definitely be staying here.

we were a party booked for Sunday evening dinner at 6.30pm. Firstly they didn't have a rhubarb and ginger gin which most places service nowadays so I opted for the raspberry with ginger ale. This wasn't served in a gin glass which you also come to expect as gin is so popular now. However I was advised that they don't have proper gin glasses. Then some things weren't available on the food menu but we all managed to order however the food was such a disappointment. The roast lamb was either under or over cooked as it was so touch some of us couldn't eat it which was same with the steak in the steak pie. Some of us also choose to have mashed potatoes however these were tasteless and we felt it was poor quality potatoes used and there certainly wasn't anything else added e.g. butter, cream etc.. The waiter/waitress never came to ask if everything was ok with our meals and when they did come to clear away the plates they never questioned why some of us had left most of our meals. We then ordered desserts as we were still hungry and likewise these were poor quality and underwhelming. I feel this place has went down hill in recent times and the quality is certainly no longer there. I used to love the place but now wouldn't go back !

Stayed here for one night with my sister as we were here visiting family. Rooms are lovely, nicely decorated, clean and the one we were in was very quiet.
Everyone in the hotel, staff wise is very polite and the hotel itself is a gorgeous building. Breakfast this morning was pre ordered the night before which we totally didn't mind and it was great to be waited on. The lady in the restaurant (sorry didn't get her name) was extremely attentive and all the food was served hot and was fresh.
Will certainly be returning next time we come up to visit.
Thank you for a lovely stay!

We booked a private meal for my fathers birthday and cannot thank Kirsty the manager enough for her help with it all. After a slight error with our booking which she rectified with professionalism for us and was present throughout our evening with a smile on her face all evening and catered our party greatly. We picked choice of 3 starters and 3 mains from the set menu list to cater for our party of 20 and we all thoroughly enjoyed, the children's meals had good options and big portions. Kirsty put on canopies after remembering I said my father liked Haggis for him, which we thought was a nice touch. The new staff and menu have really changed the place and would highly recommend. Thanks for a great night esp to Kirsty who is a credit to the place.

Yes. I've been in touch with a couple of Hotels down here and The Moorings allows 1 dog per room @ £10 per night.
Hope this helps.
