Jane and Geoff are very welcoming and accommodating, accommodation lovely and clean. The beach the farmhouse is beside is beautiful. I was here with work, but want to come back under my own steam! The food was delicious, Jane and Geoff couldn't do enough to help when I had changes to travel due to the weather. A very enjoyable stay...

This is a cosy B&B where the owners cannot do enough to make you feel welcome and special. They were very attentive to our needs especially as unfortunately I feel and tore the ligaments in my right ankle on our second day, whilst exploring an ancient chambered cairn. They could not do enough to help us out and have me...

We stayed for two nights in Backaskaill in September 2016 and it was an amazing stay. Jane was very welcoming and organised everything to perfection. The house was very homey and both Jane & Geoff made us feel like we were at home. Jane also helped us organise the local bus booking and our bike hires. The room was spacious,...

I'm glad we stayed here. It gave us a little farm experience and, having a car, we were able to wizz around the island and check out everything else. This was certainly the best place to be, because Geoff is an excellent chef. But you must let them know in advance if you want dinner so that produce can be...

We enjoyed a 5 night stay on Sanday in August with Jane and Geoff at Backaskaill, in the King-size Double room (which has an en-suite with walk-in shower - the twin has a private bathroom) It is a large and well appointed room on the ground floor with plenty of drawers and hanging space, comfortable bed (and goats - Fudge...

I have been to eat at Backaskaill a number of times. The food is delicious, as it is prepared for you. Best thing is to phone in advance. The chef takes great care to source excellent produce. It is quite a remote island but he does it! The setting is spectacular and the beach is 2 mins away. It could...

If you think a remote island, can't offer fresh food, deliciously cooked and well presented , then think again. This farmhouse offers food of all kinds but my friend and I would recommend fish pie followed by plum tart or lemon cheese cake. Our best lunch food experience in our two week stay in Orkney. Recommend you book in advance.

The farmhouse is situated in a truly unique setting: the island is your oyster even if you don't plan to leave the Backaskaille - there are sandy beaches for extended walks, cliffs and rocks to climb, green fields with cattle (be aware of the bulls!) and two friendly goats that belong to the family as much as their cute dogs...

Stayed here for three nights enjoying the unexpected but highly appreciated warm, and mainly dry weather. We stayed in the king-size room overlooking the green fields, with the occasional visit from Flymo and Fudge the entertaining resident goats. The room was very clean and comfortable, with separate lounge for watching the TV. Jane was very knowledgeable and full of information regarding...

There's not many places to eat on Sanday so what a delight to find this touch of class on Sanday, a quality B&B with great evening meals available, making the best of local produce. This along with excellent hosts and beautifully appointed bedroom and residents lounge make Backaskaill the go to place on the beautiful island of Sanday.
