always wanted to stay in a Blackhouse and this trip did not disappoint. Very comfortable accommodation in a fantastic setting. No complaints about any part of the trip.Mhairi and her colleagues are very friendly and helpful and work tirelessly to make it a great experience. We will definitely be back to stay in the future. Harris & Lewis are fantastic islands....

A step back in time to when surviving in this environment would have been a struggle. Thankfully the blackhouses have been refurbished with all modern conveniences. Underfloor heating and a wood burner make them warm and cosy. Our original arrival plans were disrupted by the weather and we couldn't get here until a day later, Mairi kindly rearranged our booking...

It would be a disservice to you, to explain why this was our most amazing Scottish experience. (In a nutshell, we lost our car keys on the cliffs and were "forced" to spend the night. It all worked out in our favour, by far.) For reasons I won't get in to, we had the best night of our lives! (Thank...

A must if you are visiting The Isle of Lewis. Ideal for both adults and children. A sight into the history of life on the Hebrides over the last 150 + years. Entrance fee is very modest (£3 concession), for this you get to visit two black houses, one has been setup as life would have been at the turn...

Visited this with family. ..shame the season ends in September. Really great to see what it used to be. Peat fire was on and it was unbelievable how smokey the house was and how it went through the whole house. Really informative place

Visiting the Gearrannan Blackhouse Village was like stepping back in time. We saw how the people here once lived, by watching traditional activities including the weaving of the famous Harris Tweed. The village also had a small shop selling gifts to purchase and a café offering delicious homemade coffee and food.

Visited the village and it was nice to see how an old village was like way back. Could not see inside some because they are either a Hostel/Holiday Cottages/Stores/Laundry or Toilets and one was a museum [cost] and another was a film theatre showing a 10 minute film also with informative history boards. There is also a shop and café....

Wow! We were blown away by how ridiculously nice this hostel was and how cheap too. Beautiful setting, really nicely decorated and super clean. Perfect place to stop on our cycle tour of the Hebridean Way. Beds comfy, huge kitchen and very well equipped. Be warned, in the words one of the staff "the nearest shop is 10 miles north...

We booked to stay here for one night in early July as part of a two week cycle tour of western highlands and islands, and I really had high hopes from the website. The website does not do the Independent hostel justice. For £15 a night each it's a total bargain, a newly converted beautiful authentic blackhouse. Very efficient housekeeper,...

What an experience, and a privilege! To stay in an updated Blackhouse, steps away from the Atlantic, in such an amazing place was the chance of a lifetime. On the northwestern coast of the Isle of Lewis - just a nice ferry ride and short car trip from the Isle of Skye, was an incredible opportunity. We had planned a...
