The hotel is located in the centre of Stornoway which is very handy. However, it also makes it very noisy as the road outside the hotel is very popular with boy racers and their noisy cars. The ear plugs in the bathroom are probably there for a very good reason. The hotel reception area is nice with restaurant, bar and residents lounge. However, covid restrictions means it is busy and booking the restaurant is essential as it also swems to be popular with locals. Service can be varied especially if you have to eat in the lounge bar as we has to one night. It was a full 10 minutes before anyone took our order and we got the feeling nobody was sure who should be serving us. Meals were good with generous portions. Bedrooms were small and, due to covid, not cleaned every day. Shower must be the smallest one I've ever been in. Lastly, it is strange that every shop is closed on a Sunday aa they strictly observe the sabbath but the pubs are open all day. There is a pub across the road from the hotel and it can be very noisy at closing time.

We went to the Crown Inn after it was Mentioned by brother and sister in law as being good food. Brother in law and hubby had starters, Salmon and crab cakes for hubby and Macarancini for brother in law - both were good. For main course I had pizza, chicken fajitas for both men and a chicken salad for sister in law. All good so far. My pizza was so thin I could see through it. I could not cut through it with a normal knife and no steak/pizza knife was provided. It was also Luke warm. Both men enjoyed the fajitas - only 2 wraps were provided, and only 1 batch of cheese, salad, sour cream and I think salsa was provided, which wasn’t good at all. The salad was enjoyed however the dough sticks were gigantic and took up most of the bowl !. All in all, I don’t think it was a special meal but 3 stars is probably the most appropriate score as both men enjoyed their meal.

Room Tip: Don’t order the pizza, if getting the fajitas ask for separate extras !

We had three nights in this hotel. The accommodation was adequate but nothing more. The room was quite small and did not represent value for money in my opinion. I would not stop here again when I return to this wonderful island. My daughter had a single room which was very compact.

After a friendly check in my stay got off to a bad start. The light in my room was faulty, the desk was too low to get my legs under to work, and the smell coming from the drains in the bathroom was unbearable. I went down to tell reception and Euan (duty manager?) totally turned the situation around. I was offered a better room, and it was explained that at exceptionally high tides (which it was) the drains in some rooms can sometimes smell - but it’s exceptional. Euan agreed the desks are too low so he set up a work station for me in a private lounge area. OUTSTANDING SERVICE! I ate both dinner and lunch the next day, vegan pizza one day, and spicy vegan burger the next. Both were excellent. ALL the staff were brilliant. The rooms were clean, beds super-comfortable, but the room furniture is looking a little tired. Room price is on the high side compared to mainland, but average for the islands. VERY dog-friendly, not just dog tolerant as a lot of places are. I felt very ‘at home’ here and would not hesitate to return.

We couldn’t fault this well run hotel. Location is excellent, right where you wanna be. The bedroom was quite small but was sufficient for our needs. Bathroom shower was great, plenty of hot water. Both rooms were extremely clean. We ate both nights in the restaurant which was good. Both food and drink menus have good choice. We would recommend the pizzas, we had them both nights we dined. Saving the best to last! We have to mention all the staff, they were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. They were working their socks off but managed to keep smiling throughout. Thank you to the night porter for our early call! In a nutshell, great dog friendly hotel at an excellent price.
