#2 of 6 hotels in Stornoway
Travellers' Choice
Stornoway's most historic hotel, the Royal nestles in the heart of Stornoway, beside the marina, where you can relax, enjoy the hotel's cosy character and enjoy dining in our Boatshed Restaurant or in HS1, the town's 1st cafe bar.If on business, you'll probably appreciate free wireless internet access available throughout the hotel. What matters so much more than bricks and mortar, though, is the warmth of the welcome and the friendly, easy service you'll receive - for the Hebrides has a great tradition of hospitality. While the Royal Hotel enjoys a delightful view over the colourful, bustling harbour to the splendour of Lews Castle and its grounds. The town centre is only around 200 metres walk.

Very comfortable room. Dog accepted in room which was important to us. Fantastic shower! All food extremely good. Recommend Hebridean scallops with black pudding. So tasty. Also vegan buddha bowl. In-laws had fish and chips - so much they could barely cope! Staff all friendly and efficient at reception and in restaurant

I wasn’t really expecting much from a 3 star, but the rate of cleanliness was totally unacceptable (see photos) Breakfast ( the easiest meal to cook) was awful. The scrambled eggs were VERY ropey.... The rooms are in definite need of a refurbishment... If you get room 7, good luck.

Location in central Stornoway is convenient. Check-in a bit slow but friendly. Room very dated. Didn't notice any problems with cleanliness as reported in other reviews but room really was in need of renovation, especially the bathroom. Breakfast was fine. Check-out was quick and easy.

From the warm welcome to the check out, our experience at the hotel during our 5 night stay was excellent. We were given an upgraded room overlooking the harbour which was perfect. Our room was super clean with great facilities.... Tea and coffee making, very comfortable bed and lovely ensuite shower room. All public areas were very comfortable and plentiful handgel available. All the staff were very helpful, friendly and professional. The breakfast food was delicious, freshly cooked and plenty of choice. We had dinner in HS1 and The Boat shed and the food was perfect and suitable for children and adults. The hotel bar and restaurant was very accommodating of our young visitors... The hot chocolate and ice cream choices were a real hit. Thank you to all the staff, especially reception staff who always greeted us with a smile and very helpful and a special thanks to the lovely lady (sorry I didn't get your name) who served us breakfast on Sat, Mon and Tues. Wishing you all a very merry Christmas and a peaceful and healthy New Year.

We were stranded on the island due to weather conditions, so our friends here recommended “The Royal Hotel” and I am so glad they did. From checking in to departure, the service has been friendly and impeccable. They have done quite well with the current COVID-19 restrictions, all employees wear masks, there are cleansing stations throughout the hotel. The room is spacious and spotless- there are a few areas where it could do with a little makeover, however, this is an old hotel. Breakfast was amazing-we had to inform reception the night before, but the food was excellent, timely and well cooked. As I have to catch an early ferry, they have offered me a a “packed lunch” which I could choose what I wanted. First class hospitality, first class service, would stay here again.....,
