Located in the Greshornish peninsula in the North West of the Isle of Skye, we are ideally situated for exploring the Isle of Skye, being only 25 minutes from Portree on the East, 15 minutes from Dunvegan on the West and 40 minutes from Uig on the North. The approach to Redwood House, a quiet family run business, is via a 2 mile single track road, skirting the shoreline, with sheep and lambs roaming freely. Look carefully and you may see a Buzzards or other bird of prey in this remote part of Scotland. Once here, its time to start to relax and enjoy the quiet and the breath taking views of Greshornish Loch which may include the occasional otter, seal or heron. Redwood House, your Scottish escape is just waiting for you.

We stayed for three nights and had a lovely trip to Skye.

The hotel is situated beautifully next to the water, and the views from the dining room, the sun room, and about half of the hotel rooms are just stunning. We saw a lot of wildlife just looking out the windows, my favourite being a crane couple. Greshornish has beautiful nature, and you can easily discover the rest of Skye from it with a few car trips.

The staff and owners were very welcoming and helpful all through our stay. They went out of their way to ensure that all guests were safe and comfortable, so we could enjoy our trip during the restrictions. Everything was clean, people wore face coverings, and hand sanitizer was readily available.

We had the breakfast every morning. There were a lot of options, and they were all good. Especially the berry compote is worth a try! One night, we dined in. There were only a few options on the menu, but everything we ordered was so delicious.

If you enjoy hikes (and are wearing your most waterproof hiking boots), there is a very nice 40 mins walk back and forth to the other side of Greshornish. The staff will draw you a map if you ask for it. Unfortunately, we didn't spot any dolphins from there, but we did see a magnificent golden eagle!

There are also two orange cats on the grounds, and one of them is very cuddly!

The hotel was absolutely stunning with breath taking views. A bit difficult to get to through sheep fields.
Our room had a stunning seaview which we loved every morning.
However the only downside to the whole hotel was that the breakfast was a disappointment. They served the smallest of portions which was a bit of a disappointment, didn't fill either of us up leaving us hungry. Other tables received toast along with their breakfast however we didn't on both mornings. One staff member seemed a bit flustered during breakfast and not the most helpful.
Other than the breakfast the hotel was beautiful.
We would not stay at this particular hotel again due to the breakfast being super small and unfulfilling.

Me and my partner just returned from a stay at the redwood house hotel. Being greeted by a huge cow as we drove down the single track road we just knew we were in for a good weekend. The hotel is beautiful also in a stunning location looking out onto the loch. Very quiet place and great for returning to after a day touring the island, most attractions are close enough with the fairy pools being about the furthest with an hours drive. For being a family run hotel the standards at which the hotel is kept are quite high with the staff being really nice and giving wee insights into island life. Would highly recommend a stay at the redwood house hotel

Remote hotel. We visited when the restaurant was still shut for our first night and open for our second. We were offered a basic menu which was fine, drinks delivered to the room. Different options burgers, paninis, salad etc. The restaurant the next night was disappointing. My partner has a shellfish allergy which 2 out of 3 starters had shellfish and 2 out of 3 of the mains had shellfish. When we asked the staff if we could alter the dishes we were simply told no. My partner had no other option but to have the veggie option. Beer was served room temperature. Plus the food is extremely overpriced. Our room was cold, spent the majority of our evenings sharing the duvet on the couch. Tv didn’t work. The WiFi didn’t work. The bathroom smelled of damp. The water in the shower was warm at best. Only good thing was the underground heating in the bathroom. Staff were pleasant. Very overpriced hotel.

A tough review to write because we really enjoyed our stay at the Redwood House but…
Let’s start with location, it’s on the Greshornish peninsula which is about a 30 minute drive from Portree, so the location is great if you are looking to get away from it all. We loved it.
The hotel rooms are great as well, but you have to be careful when picking rooms especially if you pick the King suite with view. There is a view but it isn’t the full window view that is shown on the booking.com website. Those rooms are on the ground and first floor. So, you end up paying more for the suite, but you don’t get the best view. The host while very helpful in other ways implied that we should have been more careful when picking our rooms. That’s the main reason for the “but” at the beginning of the review. I would hope that there is more clarity on sites like Booking.com about each room type
The rest of the small staff on hand were lovely and very helpful but this place is clearly short handed and could do with more staff. Shortage of staff seems to be a problem all over the UK.
The food at dinner was very good, but again due to shortage of staff, they can’t do dinner every day.
Overall, a very pleasant stay and the criticism is meant to be constructive

The room was fantastic with a nice modern layout. Unfortunately from then on thing's went a little bit down hill, while we appreciate Covid regulations had a lot to do with this their is room for improvement. Housekeeping was none existent, so emptying your own bins, going to reception to ask for toilet , no towel change etc. Breakfast was continental but it would have been good to have toast option, we don't like croissants. Fortunately the room had kitchen facilities and we were able to buy our requirements from local shops.

My wife and I stayed for four nights in one of the courtyard duplex rooms and would be happy to recommend this hotel. It is clean, comfortable and has all the amenities anyone would need. Staff are friendly and efficient. Breakfast was lovely. And the view of the water from the restaurant was a real treat, changing daily with the weather.

Dinner was really great, with beetroot starter and beef cheek main deserving a special mention. However the static and somewhat limited menu meant we ate there only once: daily specials may be worth considering - we would have been happy to eat there more often with a wee bit of variety in the offer.

We loved the long single track drive to the hotel, the sheep, and the really helpful map of the island in reception (which helped us prioritise our options).

WiFi in the room was not great and could be improved.

All in all a super hotel in a great location, offering excellent value for money and a warm welcome.

There isn’t a stand-alone area to review the restaurant but there should be. This is cooking at its best with local ingredients. Only booked as we saw signs on roadside and thought the menu looked nice.

Started with home made bread rolls and seaweed butter, just divine. I had the beetroot with goats cheese starter, beetroot was stunning and the dominant flavour, even the puff pastry has beetroot in! The the surf and turf, lobster cooked perfectly that melted in your mouth. The beef cheek was rich, tender and full of flavour with creamy mash and perfect veggies. I finished with the parfait which was full of berries and the granola topping was ideal. I had Skye black beer which complimented my main course perfectly but the wines looked a good choice and price.

My wife had salmon duo, sweet potato wellington and sticky toffee pudding which she said was all excellent. The popcorn with the sticky toffee is a genius idea

This is undersold as a restaurant, new owners this year and a new chef, keep him as he will make this place a must visit for those who love good food

And a mention to Joanna and her friend (whose name I can’t remember, sorry) whose service and friendly approach was the best I have seen in a long time.

Next time on Skye as well as eating here, I will stay here. Brilliant food

My husband and I stayed at the Redwood House Hotel in October 2020 and we were very impressed. The rooms were immaculate and we loved every meal! The staff were brilliant about COVID restrictions and still made you feel warmly welcome in spite of the strange times we are living in. The sea views were incredible and we both felt it to be incredibly relaxing and spoiling. And not forgetting Luna the dog who is an absolute sweetheart! I could have taken her home :)

Such pleasant accommodations on the unequaled Isle of Skye. If you like a touch of rural in your travel experience, but with car accessible attractions nearby, then staying at the Redwood House Hotel is a lovely choice. Once on the road, it can get quite busy in August near popular destinations.
The staff were accommodating to our late arrival, helpful with dining and beverage options both morning and evening throughout our stay. The rooms were clean, well furnished, comfortable and well taken care of. The chef was a delightful and skilled member of the staff, and we gave her our personal thanks before leaving.

Hi John. If you are upstairs your wife will have difficult accessing the large room. I would ring the owners if I were you and ask . It is a lovely place to stay , so enjoy .
