We had a wonderful experience at the Mackinnon Country House Hotel, primarily due to the great location and the excellent service from the staff. Some reviewers have advised against staying in Kyleakin, but we loved being away from the crowds of tourists in places like Portree. In addition, many B&Bs on Skye are right off the main roads. The Mackinnon...

We booked this hotel after looking at the web site. We were totally misled. The pictures and menus bore no relation to what we found when we got there. This place needs a lot of TLC and it could be lovely. The grounds are delightful, or would be if they were tidied up a bit. Similarly the building itself. We...

This was my fave hotel throughout my trip. Good - Staff, rooms, service, breakfast included, luggage service, excellent breakfast with WW2 theme surroundings, fridge in room, quiet. Bad - Tv too small and plumbing dated. This hotel is at the beginning of the isle of Skye and a good place to base yourself from for one night however if you...

Although the decor in the rooms could do with updating the excellent service and the comfy bed made up for first appearances. We had a great night and were well looked after by the excellent and welcoming staff. Travis and Matthew were extremely hospitable and cheerfully ensured all our needs were catered for in the bar. The food was very...

We enjoyed our stay at MacKinnon Country House. Our daughter was ill and front desk person (who seemed to do everything at the hotel) was very helpful. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was very good.

Stayed with a group of friends on the way to John O'Groats by bike. As an overnighter for this sort of trip (i.e. in and out) it's fine apart from the really miserable woman on the front desk who looked like she had swallowed a wasp nest when we arrived topped up with a pint of vinegar when we departed....

Quite surprised to be greeted by a very grumpy person who gave the impression that she didn't really want 12 cyclists staying in her hotel. The room I shared was a bit small but fine. Dinner was good served by a friendly helpful waitress. The following morning the grumpy lady was back and furious when we asked for cereals. Not...

We were on a cycle trip from Land End to John O Groats and stayed in similar hotels up the country. I'm afraid this was the low point. I phoned in the morning and asked if they could organise a taxi for one of our party - it was as if I had asked for the lady to eat manure...

I am afraid I don't have many positives except for the location and the staff, in particular Ross who seems to be the mainstay of the hotel and the breakfast which was ok. The proprietress seems to have her head firmly buried in the sand, and was very much less than helpful. The building is in sore need of attention...

Right lets start with the positive. The staff are excellent and very helpful, warm and friendly. I took my Dad away for a weekend of respite and we stayed in a twin room at the house out the back of the main hotel. The room smelt a bit foosty (damp) and had seen better days. The cliched tartan bed covers...
