Detailed Reviews
At £60 per night per person I expected far too much!
At the end of the day it is a hostel, but it’s very misleading. I booked a junior suite which was supposed to have two separate rooms you would expect the rooms to be inter-connected somehow!
I think suite is stretching the truth a little far! The rooms are on the same corridor ( like every other hotel I’ve ever been to ) the rooms were supposed to be a twin and a double. There was a problem with the electronic door lock on the twin room ( fair enough it happens ) the chap on duty tried and failed to sort it out, so I was moved to another room.
However the new room had 4 bunk beds in not really suited to someone that’s 6ft 3” and 17 stone, not a lot of sleep was had as you can imagine I wasn’t very comfortable at all. The carpet is so threadbare you can see the hessian backing ( correct at time of writing this ) there is also a red chair that is heavily stained with what looks like several different kinds of bodily fluid.
We asked the same member of staff for recommendations for somewhere to eat and the only one we got was for their own Bar/Restaurant. Now this is a different kettle of fish all together very clean and tidy with in my opinion quite an upmarket menu at reasonable prices, we elected to try the Indian up the road and we weren’t disappointed, having lived in the curry capital of Yorkshire for the last 16 years I can honestly say it’s one of the best I’ve had in years.
Would I recommend Saucy Mary’s? Hell NO!
£60 per night is an absolute rip off for somewhere that’s near derelict

Response from jonathan supper, Owner at Saucy Mary's Hostel
Responded Jun 9, 2021
Thank you for your comment. A hostel is not generally geared up for single occupancy of rooms. The price was high because the rooms you booked are for eight people. I think you would have been better suited to a BnB . Derelict is a very strong term and not really fair, but you should have asked if anything else was available. A hostel has bunk beds and specific requirements for a person you describe is rare. Perhaps you should have opted for the double room your colleague selected or requested another.

This is the most terrible palce i have ever stayed. From check in to check out rude staff dirty room terrible brekfast and over priced drinks.
Ok so lets start with the room for what we paid i expected a little more then what we got a hard bed flat pillows tiny t.v dirty bathroom dust all over the place and blinds that were so dirty i did not want to touch them. Bed sheets stained but clean. Brekfast what a joke grunts from staff and points to were we should go. Brekfast is self service (i personally hate ) but the food had been sitting out for hrs swimming in its own fat, eggs that you could break a wall with. Tea bags thrown into a bowl all open not in little packets so as they were sitting next to the water jugs they were all wet. Cheap cheap jam and cheap cheap butter know i dont mind places using these items i work in hospitality but when you charge 12.90 for brekfast people expect a little more then they offered. The continental was a joke a few cheap yoghurt pots or old fruit. Juice was from behind the bar and was warm. Next the bar this really got my back up know i was at kyla because of an event that was been held in the village i have been going to this event for the past 11 yrs i know how much money this event brings to the village so for this one local bar to put there bar prices up just for that weekend is shocking for 3 drinks 2 bottle beers and 1 rum and coke i was 37.50 when i asked if this was right i was told yes ok so my friend goes up for the next round and it was 26.50 we were all puzzeled but when asked we were shot down. One bar staff on and he was super slow and rude i was given a whisky instead of a rum i went back and explained and was told to go away i was wrong he was too busy for this. So we paid 288 pounds for our room when we checked for the weekend after we could get the same room for 98.00 absoulty shocking the owner is nothing but a money grabbing....... well i cant say what i really want to say.

Great Location, with views to the bridge at the front and at the back a river with herons fishing.
Our room was spotlessly clean. The bedding clean but poor quality but adequate, the curtains falling off the rail. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom brand new and the shower was great. Good powerful hairdryer. We stayed two nights, second night there was a large group of Italian high school students, the teachers made more noise shouting at them the the kids them self.
Would I stay here again, yes, great value. The price of optional breakfast next door seemed extortionate, but there are better value places a short drive away.

Very run down. Two sets of bunk beds in a very small room left no room to swing a cat never mind store our gear. Tatty all round. However, the breakfast is very good but the price is the same if you have the cooked or the continental. One of our party was charged £10 for a bowl of cornflakes and a piece of toast.

Our last night on the Isle of Skye and 3 nights wild camping in a tent, we wanted to book a bit of comfort with abed and a shower near to the bridge. Saucy Mary's was just the ticket!
I was well aware it's not a hotel - it's a bnb, hostel and guest house. Check in was easy and the gentleman was helpful and friendly.
We had a room with a shared bathroom (I knew this when I booked) which was fine by us after not having a bathroom at all haha, and the room was very spacious and comfortable with lovely views from the Velux windows of the harbour on both sides.
The tea and coffee facilities were generously stocked which was a definite plus! Plenty of parking available and a pub opposite!
Sadly the bar/restaurant was not open due to lack of staff caused by covid and Brexit but luckily they were re-opening for breakfast the following morning.
The breakfast was absolutely immense!! Proper Scottish breakky with haggis and potato scone... A huge portion, perfectly cooked! Yummers! Sent us off on our journey to Loch Ness in style! Thank you to the team at Saucy Mary's for making our last night on Skye so comfortable!

The staff at this pub restaurant were very friendly and helpful n even getting her phone out to show us a place she thought we might like to visit and explaining how to get there. The food was well cooked and freshly prepared. The menu was limited, but well done. The atmosphere was noisy but then we hadn't realised that England were playing in the semi-final that night and this was one of the few places in Skye showing the match. The restaurant was clean and masks were worn by all staff.

Never again. I and my daughter stayed in Saucy Mary from 11/04/2023 to 12/04/2023. This accommodation was arranged by the tour company that we travelled with, so we had no idea what it is like.
When we arrived, I asked the staff if the room is noisy, the reply was we have never had complaints for noise and the place is fully booked. When we were in the room there was so much noise through the night, we could hear people talking loudly and clearly and kids jumping up and down the whole evening. We hardly got any sleep for the two nights we stayed there.
Upon arrival, the room had a horrible smell and was covered in dust, there was a dead fruit fly on one of window handles and bedsheets were stained, the mattress protector was covered in black fluff and stuck out of the bedsheet. I could see that the room had double glazing windows, but there was draft coming into the room and beds were facing the window, the draft was blowing onto my shoulders the whole night and now after two nights there, I am feeling really ill with blocked nose and a cold.

It’s a hostel, it’s basic. Ive given 5 stars as it is what it is, it doesn’t pretend to be a fancy hotel, if you want that then pay more. Rooms are clean and cosy and the shower was hot. Host was very nice and helpful despite being clearly run off his feet. Unfortunately didn’t get to try the restaurant as they had to close to staff shortages due to covid but will make a point of popping in if I’m back up in Skye.
My only gripe was inconsiderate guests. If you are coming in late or leaving early please be quiet, don’t shout and let doors slam.

The Lodge is not a hotel; although in fairness it doesn't make any claims to be one. However, be aware that a "private bathroom" is not the same as an "ensuite", and you will have to go down the hall for the showers and the loo. Towels are available to rent, so take a trek towel with you instead. The rooms were actually OK, plenty of space, clean bedding and great views, but very hot (what is it about budget Scottish hotels and temperature in summer?), and reading other people's reviews, I'm glad we forewent the expensive breakfast, so that was a tenner saved.
The chap of the front desk was a friendly and jolly sort, which is a plus, and it seems to me that accom on Skye is generally overpriced/more expensive than the mainland, in which context this is still a relatively low cost option. Still poor value though; chain hotel money for a hostel. Wouldn't go back.

It’s ok is the easiest way to explain it. Our room was a twin bunk bed room. Small but clean. Our key opened a private toilet and a private shower room down the corridor which was not ideal, but much better than sharing these with other rooms.
No TV, free WiFi, no kettle but there is a kettle in the kitchen/reception area which had free coffee sachets, tea, milk and sugar.
For Skye it was well priced £110 for the night at the end of July, but certainly not cheap (that’s the Isle of Skye premium I guess) given we paid £50 the night before for a travelodge room.
Not sure of if I would stay again but it suited our purposes for this trip.
