This is simply an amazing place to visit and stay in. The way this historically important building has been renovated is beyond reproach, gorgeous interior design and quality fixtures and fittings throughout. The location is wonderful, surrounded by natural beauty with the mountains to one side and the sea to the other.
The significance of the history surrounding Bonny Prince Charlie's escape and this property is woven throughout in a delightful and tasteful way but the staff talk about it with such enthusiasm.
The room we stayed in is phenomenal, the super king 4 poster bed, the roll top bath and walk in shower are all top quality and the room is a super relaxing and comfortable set up perfect after a day exploring the beautiful Isle of Skye.
The service was without fault, and Alex who served us breakfast and dinner was so professional, warm and friendly, nothing was too much trouble and she went above and beyond what you would expect.
The food was delicious and locally sourced.
My only fear is that this wonderful place will become so popular we wont be able to book again, but they deserve every success as a business.
Slainte Monkstadt you really have a wonderful business!!

We recently spent 4 pleasant nights at Monkstadt and there was lots that we liked about it. We liked the amazing views from our top floor bedroom, the really comfy bed and nice bed linen. The shower was great, and a full range of quality toiletries were provided. There were other nice touches too, like a nespresso machine in the room and fresh flowers everyday at breakfast and dinner. The meals we had at the lodge were very nice. The two staff members we interacted with were warm and helpful.

That said, we did feel that there was some room for improvement. Our room and bathroom were very small, and on this basis felt expensive. The door rattled periodically, which wasn't a huge issue but was noticeable at night. When we arrived, the remote control wasn't working (however we were able to find instructions online to reprogramme it). We also found that there was a long wait for food, both at breakfast and dinner. On the first morning, there was an hour between coming down for breakfast and being served our cooked meals, which did set back our plan for the day. A pre-order system for breakfast might avoid this issue, but it may have just been a particularly busy time.

We were here for our honeymoon and this was one of the 9 places we stayed at during our trip. The house was easy to find on our circuit of Skye and we stayed there after seeing the Fairy Glen and before continuing to Quiraing and the Kilt Rock & Mealt Falls.

The house is beautifully decorated with a cute sitting area/bar and a dining room. We had no wifi problems or issues with hot water. The toiletries were pleasant. Breakfast and dinner were quite excellent - we've honestly been surprised on this trip at how good the food has been and this was one of the bar raisers.

We spent money on the larger room with the king bed and full bath. The room came with a book on the house history as well as hike recommendations and a sitting space for tea. Our door rattled a little bit my husband put the chair against it and that fixed it. The only problem we had was that all 4 pillows were extremely thick and hurt our necks. We should have asked for other pillows but on the trip these have been the thickest pillows and my husband ended up rolling up a towel instead.

On the eve of our ferry crossing from Skye to Harris the ferry was postponed til the morning, so just like Bonnie Prince Charlie we made for Monkstadt 1745 a stunning Scottish country house with wonderful history that reaches forward to present day.
My wife and I had the pleasure of Lt Macleod’s room a beautifully decorated with superb quality fixtures and fittings the little touches of Skye weaving on the bed.
Our chef and front of house were wonderful,
The sign of a superb chef is when you don’t even think about salt and pepper.
My wife and I had food envy of each other’s dishes! My lovely wife started with cream of cauliflower soup, main was Scottish cod served with summer peas, crispy pancetta and creamy fondant potato and to finish a coconut cream cheese cake.
I started with haggis neaps and tatties, rib eye steak with fried potatoes, griddled cherry tomatoes, rocket salad with Padano shavings and blue cheese sauce for main and I finished with a dark chocolate and Baileys delice, excellent fare you would find in any fancy city restaurant worth its salt.
Oh and due to my wife and I having to depart before breakfast the chef knocked up a lovely packed lunch of smoked salmon sandwiches, which I must say were delicious. Ladies and Gents, Monkstadt 1745 is a real luxury Lodge, please visit its wonderful. We arrived with a lovely warm Scottish welcome and left with same glow we were met with, thank you.

As soon as we arrived at the Monkstadt and stepped foot into the reception we knew the hotel was top quality and well cared for. It is by far the best hotel we have ever stayed in. Everything in our room was well thought-out, of the best quality and amazingly clean. The food was cooked perfectly and the staff were attentive and very friendly, everything was completely faultless. We can't wait to stay again.

My husband booked this meal ahead, having heard this is a "must visit" restaurant. We arrived quite early for our dinner booking, and the host and hostess welcomed us, offering a beer/ soda so that we could cool off and relax after a long day of hiking. We chose the 7 course meal, and enjoyed so many aspects of fine dining. All of the traditional Scottish favorites were served - from haggis to black pudding, but also an amazing cod, on turnips and with a small piece of fried squid atop. The meal was capped off with an amazing chocolate torte with a molten chocolate center. We ended the meal with coffee and house-made chocolate. Overall, an amazing experience in fine dining. While the meal was quite pricey, we enjoyed relaxing in an uncrowded, quiet atmosphere after a long day of hiking and dodging sheep on Isle of Skye. I would caution this is not a "family dining" experience - the food and service are geared for adults who are seeking a quiet, peaceful respite from daily life.

A fantastic little gem in the Isle of Skye. Truly luxurious place to stay with quality amenities, super fluffy towels and a four poster bed incredibly comfortable. Beautiful and spacious bathroom with great views. Tastefully decorated throughout with a lot of luxury touches and attention to detail.
The food was top notch, the chef is very skilled and presents the food beautifully. Breakfast and dinner were fantastic and was very gourmet.
The staff and Ella were fantastic and very friendly, we enjoyed every interaction we had and would love to come back.

Fantastic location, beautiful property and the room was great. Very friendly and welcoming staff, including Henry the dog! Food was good overall. Breakfast was very good with a wide selection and they catered to a custom selection as well. Dinner was good and was a welcome relief after lots of driving on our trip. Great views and overall a great stay.

My Husband and I spent 2 weeks touring England and Scotland. We spent 2 nights at the Monkstadt it was the highlight of our trip. The accommodations are beautiful, luxurious and the service is spectacular
Make sure that you make reservations and dine with them at dinner. Each meal was outstanding! Alex was wonderful. She was an exceptional representation of the Monkstat hospitality. The history of the house alone makes it memorable but the accommodations were very comfortable cozy and enjoyable. We would love to come back one day.

My husband and I had an amazing meal developed by chef Brian. Every course was delicious and well matched with the other dishes.
Service was attentive and friendly with great knowledge of the various food on offer.
Extensive wine menu too.
The dining room is so authentic to the era of the property, we could imagine Bonnie Prince Charlie dining on the next table with the lovely Celtic music playing at the correct volume.
After dinner on retiring to the Whisky room, a roaring fire was there to greet us, a perfect end to the experience.
It’s a jewel on the Isle of Skye for sure
Can’t wait for a return visit.
