Detailed Reviews
We had booked skye high tour of Scotland organized by haggis tours and me and my wife were given lodging in this hostel by the tour company. Since it was a mixed dorm accommodation both of us were quite apprehensive as it was first time we were staying in a dormitory. But we were in for a pleasant surprise. it's centrally located in town square near to all restaurants.Hostel is quite cheery and bright with a welcoming lobby and bright passage ways. Dorm rooms are quite small but we were given a cheery room in first floor with a nice view of the street. Beds ,pillows and blankets are first class and very comfortable. The shared toilet and shower was clean big and comfortable to use. The outstanding feature was huge community kitchen with all facilities required for cooking including fridges, gas range , oven and utensils. There was nice dining area in kitchen. We had our daily breakfast here. You can get all cooking items in nearby coop supermarket. People of all age groups from senior citizens to couples to youngsters were staying here. Overall its a good option to stay for people on a budget who are comfortable with shared accommodation.

Located right at the heart of small town of Portree, I had a very comfortable stay at this hostel. Because of the pandemic, I had to self check-in but when I needed some help, staff came in and heeded to my request of using a security locker. Easily one of the friendliest staffs I had a chat with. Only feedback I've is to improve their heaters, the rooms were quite cold in the winter.
Overall I highly recommend this hostel for a stay at Portree.

I will start with the pros:
The staff was very friendly, the location was excellent, and the kitchen was well equipped.
Cons:
Kind of rundown, the colors are obnoxious, and there is no temperature control on the shower (literally just an in/off switch). The water was so hot I almost couldn’t stand it. I have had far more pleasant showers in combat zones.

+1
This was my first hostel stay since yputh hostelling as a child in the 80's!!Really friendly owner, easy check in, despite it being very busy for Skye Live, I got a bottom bunk as checked in when opened. Comfortable bed , a snorer in the room couldn't be helped, so slept just ok in light of that. Clean bathroons. Massive kitchen. Very good value for money, would definitely stay here again

I would not have stayed here if I could’ve booked elsewhere. I stayed here with Haggis Adventure tour, and unfortunately couldn’t choose where to stay.
The shower had black and pink mould, the shower floor was filthy. Would be surprised if it was ever cleaned

Thanks to a tip-off from some locals, we came here to do laundry after a week on the road. The launderette it open to the public, you don't have to be staying at the hostel to use it. Walk alongside the hostel building on its right to the back, then turn left and enter a small room with four or five washing machines and a couple of dryers.
They don't sell detergent like bigger launderettes do, but when we asked at reception, they just gave us some for free. The place is reasonably clean, and there were quite a few people of all ages using the machines.
You can park in Somerled Square right across the road, which is convenient. Do phone ahead and ask about opening times, though, since I seem to remember them having some morning hours reserved for hostel guests or their own washing. And as always, bring lots of change, as there isn't a money changing machine on site.

After reading that this independent hostel was "clean and smart" in the Rough Guide and after perusing its website, we booked for one night. My husband and I have both done the "Europe with a backpack" thing, and knew what to expect -- or thought we did. Our tiny room had four bunks, no electrical outlets, and two of four broken lights. Bedcoverings were stained and encrusted. Adjacent bathroom was filthy -- feces stains on the toilet, mold and mildew everywhere, a "foot towel" that I wouldn't wash a rat in. The front desk attendant was usually out front smoking and was completely useless (on the outlets "Hmmm. They were working earlier."). At least we had fun reading the graffiti carved into the bunks and looking at the portraits someone made by peeling the paint off the walls.

I really didn't like staying at the place.. You have to pay to get wifi, to have access after 10pm (so they don't receive guests after that, I don't know about check in times).. The kitchen is big, but there's not breakfast included. My door didn't have lock, not even handler.. Accessible to anyone who wanted to enter during the day or night.. Didn't ask for a locker because it will probably be charged as well..

My friend and I stayed in a two bunk beds room (NO. 7) in June this year. It was a great stay.
ROOM: not too roomy but good enough for us to move around. With a tall window facing to the city road which could be a bit noisy at times. It was quite a clean and comfy place to stay especially after you have explored the isle with a lot of trekking; you will find your bed the most comfortable bed in the world.
BATHROOM: we find two very spacious bathroom/toilet on our floor. One of them is just right across from your room; however, you have to wait as there is only 2 bathroom for so many people to share on the same floor.
LOCATION: EXCELLENT! It is extremely close to the Somerled Square where most of the public transit and tour bus would use as their pick-up and drop off point.
KITCHEN: A very nice spacious clean and well equipeed kitchen guests can use 24/7 ....plus a very beautiful lake window view. They also sell fresh eggs of 4 in a box for 1 pound every day from the front desk.
SERVICES: Very friendly and helpful. I have ordered my visitor oyster card from Canada to deliver it to this hostel for pick up. They kept a good eye on it for me. VERY APPRECIATES!!!! Great staffs: very approachable and extremely helpful.
DEFINITELY WILL RECOMMEND THIS HOSTEL TO OTHER PEOPLE.

Stayed in hostel with a group during very busy music festival. Staff were excellent throughout. Hugely accommodating and friendly. Our room had new bunks, new mattresses, new curtains and had been freshly painted. Kitchen area extensive for food preparation. Location is opposite bus links, banks, restaurants and bars. I'd recommend this to fellow hostellers. I'd recommend booking this in advance. Thanks again to the hosts.
