Detailed Reviews
We have just spent 3 nights at this hotel. Rooms are spotlessly clean and good size. Obviosley due to covid 19 the rooms have been scaled back a bit but still of a very good standard. Breakfast is a delight with plenty to choose from. The staff and owners are extremely approachable and helpful with a great knowledge of things to do on skye. Would also say the hotel has plenty of hand sanitizer stations around the hotel and staff are constantly wearing there masks, so every effort has been made to protect everyone whilst staying at the hotel. Would definitely recommend staying here.

We visited in August which is obviously a high season for holiday. We can hardly find cheaper options and eventually booked with this one for 120 per night for two nights. (Youth hostel is also over a hundred pounds.) A small family run hotel which we turned out to like it very very much. It is centrally located in Portree which is arguably the best base to explore Skye. Many restaurants are in walking distance and a co-op food store is next door. The room is the largest we stayed in our two weeks holiday, and with seaview. The breakfast was one of the best you can expect from this price range. It was very difficult to book for dinner and the host welcomed bringing takeaway to consume in the room. This is truly customer oriented.
Due to other problem in scheduling our trip, we have to stay for one more night. Fortunately there was one vacancy for that night. And the host honoured his policy to give 10% discount for three nights stay. He could have hidden this from us as we were desperate in looking for extension. He was honest in his business and our third night ended up effectively 30% discount. Very highly recommended.

Lovely little b&b, we stayed for one night in a group of five people across two rooms.
Make sure you read the email they send to find the parking as otherwise it’s easy to miss but once you’re parked round the back of the hotel it’s only a few little steps to get into the hotel.
Staff were very friendly, the rooms were large, bright and clean, the breakfast was generous and tasty, the beds were comfortable and the shower was great.
Our main thing to rave about with this hotel was the location, it’s right in the middle of the little town so loads of pubs, shops and restaurants within a few minutes walk as well as the harbour being just a couple of minutes away. We also drove to The Storr in just 15 minutes and then the fairy Glen in about half an hour.
If you’re looking for a lovely little stay on the Isle of Skye I would hugely recommend this hotel.

We stayed here for one night in a twin room, which was extremely clean and very comfortable.
The hotel is situated in the centre of Portree, close to all amenities.
Dennis, the owner was so friendly and helpful and allowed us to bring a takeaway back to the hotel, and gave us plates and cutlery too.
Breakfast was excellent, with a great choice of hot and cold options, and vegan options.
The price of this hotel room was lower than other hotels in Portree, but the quality of the stay was unbeatable.

I stayed at the Caledonian Hotel for 2 nights on a recent trip to Skye (20/9 - 21/9/21). On arrival at the hotel Dennis the owner was very welcoming, and although the hotel only offers a Bed and Breakfast option, Dennis kindly said you could bring in a Take away in the evenings if you wanted to, and he even offered the use of plates and cutlery which you could take to your room, as long as you returned them to the reception with your empty take away containers for him to dispose of for you. My room was lovely and clean and the bed was very comfortable, and on both mornings I was there they offered a great choice of cooked or uncooked breakfast. The reason for my visit to Skye is that I was on a 3 day trip with Rabbie's tours and they had booked my accommodation for me , and I was very happy with their choice.

I stayed for three nights in September.
The off street parking was helpful, whilst the check in process was simple.
My room was cosy and well kept, as was the bathroom.
All members of staff were friendly and ensured a well prepared breakfast became part of the routine.
The only issue in town during the evenings was a lack of food providers compared with hungry people staying locally.

+1
Our room was booked thru our tour company Rabbie‘s and it did not disappoint. The hotel is Right at the Portree center and we stayed in room 14 for 2 nights. The Room had a king sized bed with a lovely bathroom. The Room was towards the back entrance, so it was easy for us to go to the town and back. If you have troubles with the many stairs at the main entrance, use the back entrance which is behind the Co-op supermarket. Breakfast was included and plenty. There Are also many restaurants in the town center, I’ll suggest getting reservations prior to your Isle of Skye trip though since restaurants are limited but a lot of tourists around. The hotel is definitely a great basic hotel with very friendly and helpful staff.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights and couldnt recommend it enough. Lovely owners who are friendly and go out of their way to accommodate you. I am a vegan and the owners made sure there was provision for a vegan fry up in the morning. Rooms are simple but extremely clean and have everything you need. Good wifi and smart TV where you can log into your netflix/iplayer account. Great location right in the heart of portree.

Clara gave us lovely warm welcome, and provided us with plenty of advice on local amenities. We were given a room at the back of the hotel overlooking the car park and a limited sea view. The room was spotless, very quiet and we slept well in the comfortable bed. Breakfast was a lovely cooked breakfast, served in a socially distanced dining room.
The location of the hotel is very central, minutes from the bus terminal and harbour.
The only point to note that there is no lift and plenty of steps to access the hotel (less if entering from the car park at the rear) so may be difficult to access if one has mobility issues.
Overall, we had a lovely stay at The Caledonian and would definitely return when next in Portree

Stayed for one night with another couple. We were happy with our rooms and appreciated the cheery check-in from Dennis, who took us through the hotels comprehensive Covid mitigation measures including allotted breakfast times. There is an extensive breakfast menu to set you up for the day ahead. We spoke to Dennis a few times and to some of his staff, everybody is there to help and you get the feeling that there is a ‘can do attitude’ for guests at this hotel. Nice place and no probs in recommending this establishment.

Hi, Thanks for your message. We needed to change our pet policy recently because we had a few people just arrive without telling us they were bringing a pet. Since we only have a couple of rooms that we can accept pets into this put us in an awkward situation.
So, basically, we do accept dogs (and we love dogs), but we would need to check availability of pet-friendly rooms before-hand.
Just let us know the dates you'd like and we'll check for you
Thank you. Dennis Connell.
