Mairie was a wonderful host. We had just finished washing clothes and then the rain came. She offered to take our clothes home to dry and brought them back that night. She went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable.

Gairloch View B&B is a perfect place to be: Spacy room (we were 3 adults in a room for 4) with its own shower. Excellent breakfast with lots of fresh fruits. Many sightseeing spots easily accessible. But above all great hospitality and devoted hosts who can give you lots of hints what to visit. Clearly a place to come back!

Great location and a very welcoming hostess. Arrived in the early evening to a comfortable cosy cottage. Planned our trip around the rain and got to see most of the island in our three days. Great place to stay, thoroughly recommend Gairloch view.

We, a couple, paid £180 for bed and breakfast for two nights here. We left after the first night but were charged the full amount for both nights. Upon arrival we were shown to the small bedroom at the back of the property (there are only two bedrooms) which comprised three single beds, one dining chair and a built in wardrobe. Perhaps naively when we booked this at £90 a night we expected a TV in the room and had presumed that "private bathroom" was another term for "ensuite bathroom". But the room had neither facility. The private bathroom was down the corridor and we had no key for it and there was no lock on the outside of it. As other reviewers have stated, this bathroom can in fact be accessed by anyone so you have to traipse down the corridor with your toiletries everytime you visit if you dont to risk losing them. Without a private key that is not a private bathroom - it is a shared bathroom! We are at an age when you can tend to visit the facilities in the middle of the night so this wasnt ideal. So we asked ourselves why was this room costing us £90 a night? We were both so unhappy that we hardly slept overnight, and during the night looked online and discovered the b&b's website where they described their rates as being £25-30 per person per night depending upon the season. Apparently then we had paid for the third empty bed and a third breakfast for two nights! In the morning I told the proprietor how unhappy we had been and said we could not stay for the second night. I asked for a part refund but was bluntly told that I had to pay the full amount, end of story.
So what we have here is overcharging for a third non existent person - based upon their own published rates, a misrepresentation of the facilities - a shared bathroom described as being private, and an unwillingness to redress the issue by means of a partial refund. In a different context those activies could be described as unlawful at worst and uncaring at best. Not the best credentials for operating in the hospitality business. Dont stay here!

Response from Mairi M, Owner at Gairloch View B&B & Holiday Cottages
Responded Sep 6, 2016
Andrew & his wife booked a room with private facilities in our B & B through Booking.com where all the information on the accommodation is available, I understood their disappointed that the room they booked wasn't en-suite but I explained and showed them on their booking confirmation that they had booked a room with private bathroom, Andrew's explanation was that he had booked the accommodation ''because it was cheap and he didn't read the information''. The private bathroom incidentally isn’t used by anyone else in the house as the other letting room, that night occupied by a lovely mature couple, is en-suite and the only other people in the house are our family who have our own facilities including our own two bathrooms. At breakfast next morning Andrew was very rude to me, witnessed by our other guests, when I asked what their plans were for the day. He apologised later and said they were actually leaving that day in his own words ''not because of you, the breakfast or the accommodation as everything was excellent but at our age we need an en-suite room. When he came to pay Andrew asked for a discount but I said that as per our cancellation policy the full amount was due as he was cancelling the booking during his stay, he replied ‘it was worth a try anyway’ The only 2 rooms(which Andrew kindly pointed out) we let during Andrew's stay were one en-suite quad room (at the back the house!) which has beautiful uninterrupted sea views, and one triple room with private bathroom, Mr Anderson’s room, (at the front of the house) with a beautiful view of the famous Quiraing Mountain, both including full use of the guest TV lounge at the ‘back’ of the house. All information on the extra contents & facilities in the room (which Andrew forgot to mention), including pictures of these rooms are fully available on the Booking.com website where the booking was made. Andrew forgot to mention the abusive phone call to me later that evening about coming back to stay saying it was his right to come back as he had paid for the room despite leaving our B & B through his own choice that morning, fully understanding the cancellation policy AND admitting that it was his fault for not reading the information. I have no qualms about correcting this reviewer as I have 2 witnesses to his behaviour and also the conversation with him the morning of his departure.

Gairloch view is basically a two bedroom, self-catering apartment in a 2 -unit complex. However, it is in a spectacular location, north of Staffin ~ 2 miles looking out over the sea with views of the mainland in the distance, in the shadow of Quirang. The rooms were clean, and the kitchen is fine, although all are quite small. The living room is comfortable, but oddly the only window that would be great for viewing is small and placed high, so you can only look out if you're standing up! We had great weather, so we were outside all of the 3 days we were there, but if it rained and you just wanted to chill out, you might get cabin fever.

The owner, Maire, lives just down the hill, and her house serves as a bread and breakfast as well. She is terrific, full of local knowledge and extremely helpful with everything.

It is about 20 minutes from Portree, with usual Skye-standard one lane road for much of the drive. Not a spectacular lodging, but a truly spectacular 3 days in Skye and a good place to be situated, if hiking is in your plans.

The Gairloch view Holiday Cottage is the ideal place for discovering the Isle of Skye and Trotternish. You can make beautiful tours in the hills of Trotternish. From the window you have a great view over Gairloch. There is access to a beach with many stones, pebbles, and fossils, a perfect playground for children.
The holiday cottage is very clean and nicely furnished. Best of all is the excellent service und support by Mrs MacDonald.

The Anmara Cottage was an amazing spot for our 3 night stay on Skye. It was spotlessly clean and really had everything we needed for a wonderful stay. My sister and I loved the quiet rural location right at the base of the Quiraing and it was an easy drive to Portree. The views over the ocean and open fields from the cottage were breathtaking. The central location on the Trotternish Peninsula meant that nearly all of the sites we came to see were nearby which made sightseeing easy. The owner, Mairi, was so nice and had breakfast items there for us and she gave us great tips for the area. The property is private and quiet and even had a cute friendly lamb, in the fenced area directly in front of the cottage. Gorgeous views and we even got to see Northern Lights thanks to Mairi texting us to take a look outside, even though she had left for Glasgow earlier in the day. Staying at the Anmara Cottage helped make Skye the highlight of our trip to Scotland!
