This is a great B&B to stay at. It's remote, comfortable, and a wonderful VALUE. I don't think you can get a better B&B for the cost.

I was the tour guide (with my wife) leading two friends around the Isle of Skye. We stayed here three nights. My wife and I had the room downstairs with the private bathroom next door; the other couple had the room upstairs ensuite.

We were delighted by the comfort of our rooms, the wonderful breakfast in the morning, the awesome sunsets at night, and the quietness of the rooms.

I'd rate this as a great 3+star kind of B&B. Everything was clean and tidy. You can pay much more on Skye, but you can save 100's a day by staying here.

The garden is a wonderful way to have a cup of tea in the afternoon.

This is a short distance from the Fairy Glen, the Uig Ferry, and the Quiraing. I chose it for the ease of getting off the ferry from the Isle of Harris. I'm so glad I did.

And the Monkstadt 1745 is just a five minute drive away for a 5-Star Restaurant.

So say hello to Sally Phelps the owner. And tell her Jim Russell from Grand Rapids recommended you.

Excellent place to stay with great service. I would reccomend it to anyone. Room was large and we had plenty room for the wheelchair. The only thing was the 2 steps at the front door but they were not really a problem.

I will go back and stay here next time i am in Skye gorgeous views and house.

Kilmuir House was an unexpected pleasure. It's one of those old houses you see sitting tall on the green slopes of western Skye. Sally who runs it is a ball of energy and very kind, making tea as soon as you get in. Unlike so many places I stayed in the UK, the rooms in Kilmuir House were spacious--the bedroom, the shared bathroom, and the beautiful front common room available to guests. Sally loves antiques and unusual things, and maintains a good library of Skye-related books. Her decorating was both comfortable and elegant. The bathroom was warmly heated. The breakfast was great! All in all, I loved Kilmuir House.

The location was great for our purposes (searching for our "Roots"). The B&B was right by the home,& business of my very distant relative and just down the road from the museum of island life & historic cemetery, where we found the grave of my 10th great grandfather "Angus of the Winds".
Kilmuir House is lovely, full of antiques, with a lovely garden. However, it is also so cold, I wore a jacket most of the time. The breakfast was uninteresting and pretty small. A problem because the only other places to eat were 20 minutes away in Uig. The owner, Sally is friendly and cute, but we would probably not stay there again.

We choose the b&b because of its nice location and being close to the ferry. Our guide book also recommended it.
The room itself was spacious with a nice view over the garden and the landscape but there were also several things we disliked:

- The room had a closet filled with the owner`s cloths and no real space to store or put your own stuff.
- The bed was pretty small for a double bed and the linen seemed to be the ones used by the former guests (hairs)
- The "bath" was not only very small but the sink the smallest we have ever seen with a tiny water tap hardly to use. Also the bathroom wasn`t really clean e.g. again hairs

The room itself would have been ok but for a 3 star accommodation the breakfast was really poor. First of all the butter was old and the jam seemed to be over the date and smelled really strange.
We had the feeling that only the least of service was offered and having to request everything but the minimum.

To sum it up:
Nice location, nice but in detail unclean room and in comparison with other b&b`s to expensive for what you get. Having been to many b&b`s before we are used to more hospitality.

We spent 2 nights with one child here. We are absolute satisfied with Sally's kindness and the service. The room was clean and nice. If we are coming to Skye in the future, we will visit her once more :)

We stayed in this B&b for two night. The house was very outlying and it was not very easy to get there.
The owner was very friendly and helpful. We had internet access and the view from one room was great. The other room had not a very good view (backyard).
I think it was great for the price and I would recommend it for travellers how likes the absence from the civilization ;-).

We checked into Kilmuir House after arriving on the afternoon ferry in Armadale, and stopping for dinner in Portree (on the advice of our hostess). Since we had been on Skye before, we didn't take time to stop anywhere on the way.

I can't tell you what the views from the B&B were like - it was dark, rainy and with low clouds - and so very windy - for our entire stay on Skye, that if I didn't know better, I would have thought that the area was mostly flat with some small rolling hills. But, based on the drive up to the B&B - a narrow single lane road with some very sharp switchbacks at the very beginning, I bet this place has fantastic views in good weather.

The house is old and substantially built - which was a comfort in the winds that pummelled us for the duration of our stay. Both of the rooms we were in would have had views to the ocean over the walled garden, if we been able to see that far.

The rooms were relatively large, but it would be nice if the hostess removed some of the personal items from the rooms. Our room had a large wardrobe - filled with clothing, and a smaller closet that was available for guests. The wardrobe *seemed* to be the most obvious place to hang clothing, and it wasn't until the second day that I discovered the *real* guest closet. The dressing table was covered with stuff - it looked nice but was unusable without rearranging everything. The bathroom was a miracle - I have never seen such a small bathroom (basically as deep as the shower stall, and as long as a commode, very very small sink and the shower). It was very clean, however.

There is no internet available to guests here. However, we were travelling at a time when a family member was seriously ill, and our host Sally graciously allowed us to use her personal computer to check our e-mail at home during our stay.

Overall, this B&B was nice enough. It was very convenient for the ferry in the morning to Harris. There are some services (restaurant / pub, grocery, petrol) in Uig, but for a long stay you might want to time your sightseeing to be close to somewhere else for dinners.
