This is a ideally situated hotel situated on the banks of Loch Long. The room was ok however the mattress should have been replaced a long time ago it did not even fit the base. Our friends also stayed and there mattress was lumpy and they also did not get a good nights sleep. We booked a table for the evening as there was a poster giving special deals when we went to the restaurant we were told we were not eligible as we were only on a bed and breakfast basis. Real shame this could be great hotel just need money spending on Beds most important thing with B&B

Really awful room. Curtains mouldy. Hairdryer 1970s worked intermittent. Bedside light has a loose connection so quite dangerous. Bed is only 6 ft long, I'm 6 ft 2" so my achilles took the weight as my feet hung out. Bathroom fan doesn't work so everywhere is steamy. Shower screen doesn't fit properly so bathroom floor is covered in water after showering. Toilet brush holder looks disgusting. On the plus side the view is great. Had one meal and went elsewhere to eat on second night!!

This was our last night in Scotland so we were looking forward to staying in a hotel with a view of the Loch, nice food and a comfortable stay. It was Meatloaf that sung, two out of three ain’t bad, he should have sung one out of three ain’t bad. First the good - we got a beautiful Loch view, from large picture windows, and the room we had was large. Now the bad - there is apparently free Wi-Fi however this did not reach our room, and we could not get a signal. Had I been using this hotel for work, this would not have been acceptable in this day and age. Bedroom - the room is outdated in decor and furnishings and very bland. The bed was uncomfortable and the mattress on the bed did not even have a mattress protector on, this is very bad. The sheets didn’t fit the bed properly so some of the night I was lying on the bare mattress. The quilt was too small for the bed and the quilt cover too large for the quilt. The towels were white but thin and harsh, not thick and fluffy as I would expect. The bathroom was functional. Food - We went down for evening meal and had to wait over 40 minutes for our food (how long does it take to make one beef burger) and a plate of cold pate? After enquiring our food quickly arrived. It was ok, nothing better than cheap pub grub, but it filled a hole. After a poor night sleep, we went to breakfast. The staff member on the desk was a bit militant about us waiting to be seated as we had dared to approach the desk! We were not sure what her rationale of this was, as we were soon whisked away to a table by another staff member. As expected there is a big thing about Covid, however clearly not all staff got this memo, as one staff member who was serving hot food thought wearing a mask on his chin was acceptable, and after being dictated to about social distancing, when it came to staff and the buffet, the rules clearly went out of the window. Speaking of which, we were seated next to a window, which had loads of dead midges on the sill, right next to our table! Clearly not cleaned prior to breakfast. At breakfast staff were serving guests what they wanted from the buffet, and as I was queuing for hot food, I noticed the guy before me had been given the last egg. When it was my turn, I asked if there were more eggs, and the guy serving took out the empty tray (from under the heat lamps), put this on the floor behind him, and picked up a tray full of eggs from a table at the side of him. Now, HACCP (Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Points) regulations state that food temperatures should be taken prior to serving, this hit me as being way off, as he certainly did not check the temperature as I was watching him. I accepted my breakfast and as expected I found the eggs to be undercooked and slimy and cold! No surprise there then! The sausage I had was limp and pale with flappy skin; cheap and disgusting. Cleanliness - On returning to our room, we saw the cleaning lady preparing to ready rooms for the next guests. Now I felt for her as I noticed she hadn’t even been given trolley for her cleaning materials, linen and room supplies. I had also noticed the cleaning lotions, disinfectants, etc were not secure as per COSHH regulations. I then noticed outside of each bedroom, on the floor was all the bed linen for all of the bed changes. Great to know my bed linen spent it’s first hour or two on the floor before being put on the bed! Overall, this place is great if you don’t mind dour staff with dictatorship attitudes, bad food, poor service and below standard rooms.
