Just returned today from an overnight stay with my best friend for one night here. Had been booked into somewhere else but was cancelled by owner due to unforeseen circumstances. Living just outside Edinburgh, I wasn't sure what was good accommodation and what was not so good. Found this place on booking.com but checked it out on its own website. Called David to check availability. Asked for a sea view but David assured me that his rooms at the back of the hotel had just been refurbished and were beautiful so we went with his judgement. We never saw the rooms at the front with the sea view so couldn't comment. David and Penny have been here since the beginning of last year and are bringing the accommodation up bit by bit. We really were not disappointed with the twin room at all. There are 4 rooms that look out on to the 'garden' with Jack and Jill seats at your door to enable you to sit outside although the 'garden' view is a bit disappointing with a large Calor gas tank there. On a nice night there is a bench at the edge of the water at the front of the hotel which would be a nicer view. Couldn't really fault the room and service though. The room was recently refurbished as David had mentioned with extremely comfortable beds, beautiful duvet and linen and plush thick fluffy towels. A cosy spacious room painted and furnished in modern grey and mustard. A bath, hot water all the time and nice touches with bottles of water, biscuits, cotton buds, cotton pads and complimentary shampoo etc. We had a fantastic sleep and were extremely comfortable all night. On reading the reviews before booking, the common factor was the food. Absolutely superb!! We had cullen skink soup to start then venison and lamb for our main. We would have loved a dessert as the choices were delicious but just did not have enough room sadly! Even if you are not staying here after Covid-19 restrictions are eventually lifted, and you are in the area, book yourself in here for a meal. You will not be disappointed. First class. Breakfast offered kippers, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon or full breakfast. We had fresh orange with the scrambled egg and salmon followed by copious amounts of toast and honey. Nothing was too much trouble for David and Penny. The only thing that was missing was the weather but that, sadly, was out of anyone's control. Would definitely stay here again if in the area.

We stayed in one of four very nice modern rooms built behind the restaurant; each has an outdoor seating area.

Our room was nicely furnished – even the fan had yellow blades and buttons to match the décor of the room. We also had a very nice en-suite bathroom (with an openable window).

Breakfast was very good, as was dinner on the night we ate in.

We have been visiting the area for many years now and in the last 2 or 3 years The Old Library has become the number 1 choice to stay and dine (exclusively now to be honest). David and Penny are fantastic as well as the staff who are really friendly, the rooms are spacious and the "Chalet" type to the rear have wee verandas looking onto the garden- right sun traps on an afternoon/evening. The food is fab (especially the lamb) with a good choice and ever changing specials menu, service and quantities can not be faulted either. Scottish bottled beers, good wine selection and of course a good choice of whiskey. Hope to see them again in the not too distant future.

We had a couple of nights here last week and from start to finish we loved every bit of it. Looking out to the water it is just so peaceful and picturesque. The hotel has 6 rooms all of which have been refurbed really well since our last stay and we were fortunate enough to also have an outside terrace with seats. The restaurant is first class. The kitchen staff really know what they are doing and really this is a very good reataurant that has rooms, rather than a small hotel. Viewed as a restaurant it is right up there for its quality of food. Booking is certainly necessary, in high season at least. With a max of maybe 20 covers the atmosphere is also really nice. David and Penny you are doing a fabulous job there and we wish you well and every success. Looking forward to staying again soon, thank you.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay - our room was spacious , well decorated, nice furniture, large comfy bed and a terrace overlooking the garden with a glimpse of the sea between the buildings. We had breakfast and dinner both days. The reviews I read beforehand of the excellent breakfast are absolutely accurate - lots of choice and actually hot when it arrives at the table, something which most hotels can't achieve. Dinner is brilliant with a menu and huge specials board. Between us we had Orkney sweet pickled herring, cullen skink and smoked salmon for starters and for mains venison, langoustines, chicken breast in bacon and leek creamy sauce and battered monkfish tails and I had a toffee apple desert which was brilliant. Penny and David are friendly hosts and made sure that we were happy with our room. The waiter in the evenings (Joey) is polite but friendly and has a good understanding of the dishes on the menu and manages to provide speedy service without appearing to be rushed. Penny and David are making sure everything is covid secure, which was a concern for me, however there are hand sanitisers at all entrances and in rooms and Penny is sanitising not just the tables but the dining room chairs as well. We had a lovely stay with excellent accommodation and food and are planning a trip back next Spring - I highly recommend anyone to stay there and take in the amazing view of a beautiful part of the country and the fabulous beaches.

Due to covid we were not able to book a table in the evening but called "on spec" at lunch time after a few hours out on the water.

We were warmly greeted and shown the menu which although not hugely extensive did give something for almost all tastes.

I chose the Mallaig Langoustines & Venison Fillet both of which were simply gorgeous & perfectly cooked for my liking .

A generous helping of sticky toffee pudding and accompanied by a nice bottle of rose was a lovely way to spend a relaxed lunch.

I would advise trying to book early as space is a little limited and the owners often need to wait for residents to let them know if they are dining before opening up to more diners.

Lovely lovely lunch, will certainly be back.

My mother in law and niece stayed here recently. They were so impressed with the hotel and the welcome they received that they asked me to write this for them. Penny and David should be commended for the warmth of their welcome, the excellence of their food and their attention to detail in furnishing the rooms. They provided a relaxing, efficiently run hotel accompanied by good company- everything you need for a great stay. Anne and Rachael Beattie thank you very much.

We ate here during our recent stay in Arisaig & can totally see why the restaurant is fully booked every night! It is superb! Please keep in mind, the restaurant is small with maximum of roughly 20 covers at any one time. But, while it is intimate, you don’t feel like you’re ‘sat on top’ of the table next to you.
From the moment we arrived, to the moment we left, the service was exceptional. Two waitresses on hand who made sure we were comfortable & were extremely attentive. These two ladies wouldn’t be out of place in a top 5 star establishment.
On to the food - well what can we say! On seating us & handing us our menus, we were informed of any items that were unavailable, so no perusing the menu only to be told, ‘Sorry, no’. I had soup of the day, followed by venison in blueberry and port jus…Oh my goodness! Heaven on a plate. Meat was cooked to perfection, in a jus to die for. Sorry if that sounds over the top but I couldn’t fault the dish at all. The meat was tender but so flavoursome.
My partner had chicken & haggis melts in whisky sauce to start…which was divine! This was followed by Skye rack of lamb, and again the meat was cooked to perfection. There was very little fat on the meat, but what was there just added to the flavour of the dish.
We were too stuffed for dessert, but the selection on offer looked superb. The other diners eating dessert looked very happy!
Restaurant and facilities are immaculate, with staff who want their customers to have the best dining experience.
Will definitely be visiting again and if you’re in the area make sure you visit - just remember to book in advance, you’ll be disappointed if you don’t!

Stayed for only one night whilst touring the west coast and wouldn’t hesitate to return. Newly decorated rooms immaculately clean and very Covid compliant.
We were in one of the 4 rooms out the back and if the weather had been nicer there is a lovely decking area and chairs outside each room. Right on the seafront so fabulous location with village store next door.
The restaurant is superb and serves the best of local seafood but also plenty non seafood choices as well - I took the Cullen skink followed by the fresh Mallaig langoustines and my wife had the goats cheese followed by the chicken in mustard sauce - can’t fault any of them.
Superb choice of breakfast as well if you are not too stuffed from the night before.

Despite the current restrictions the hosts made us feel totally relaxed. Lovely sea / storm view room and very tasty food. We stayed two nights so could try several dishes and all were excellent, especially the delicious venison steak. David
