The Lion Hotel garners appreciation for its clean and comfortable rooms, although the charm is slightly marred by outdated features and less-than-ideal ventilation. Guests laud the array of amenities, which includes electric car charging points and a quality breakfast, all complemented by the hotel's prime location near town, beach, and historical sites.
While the service is generally celebrated for its friendliness, an isolated incident with a rude barman has been noted. Despite calls for a more spirited bar atmosphere and improved staff engagement, the overall cozy vibe coupled with the hotel's cleanliness and competitive pricing suggests a good value stay for many travelers.

We visited for a two night stay, as part of a longer tour of North Wales. We loved this hotel.
It has a central location in Criccieth, 5-10 minutes walk to the beach and castle, and it’s position on a hill means that the rooms have fantastic views.
Our room was delightful, with a double and single bed, huge bathroom with walk-in shower cubicle and separate bathtub, lovely peach decor and an amazing view of the sea/coastline and castle. We had a tea tray with a plentiful supply of coffee/tea/milk and biscuits. We were also provided with a decanter of water and a hand sanitiser, which was most thoughtful.
From the moment we entered the hotel, staff service was excellent, on reception, in the bar and in the restaurant (Robert was particularly impressive).
I liked the way that the restaurant and bar were for hotel guests only, which felt nice and exclusive. We had breakfasts in the hotel each morning and one dinner, both of which were great quality, traditional food, beautifully served.
There is a free car park, decent WiFi and there is even a lift.
We had a fantastic stay here and would definitely return.

Decided on a two night stay at The Lion . We were in room 34 , which was on the side and looking out to the castle. The room was very comfortably furnished with plenty of room and importantly comfortable bed.
Due to covid restrictions the room is not refreshed daily but bins are available on each floor to take used towels and empty your bin . All was explained on arrival , the hotel is not open to non residents, has a two way entry and exit.
Breakfast was well cooked with a varied menu available . On our first evening we also had dinner which was excellent and good value.
What we liked was the level on sanitising around the hotel - all tables and chairs were cleaned, laminated menus wiped after each use, and staff masked. The bar service is by service only and cost added to your bill
Enjoyed our stay

Stayed here with my 2 teenage children. The Hotel had just reopened from lockdown restrictions on the day we arrived. The staff were really helpful and friendly and immediately made us feel at ease with the precautions in place. The Family room was perfect with twin beds in a separate room off the main bedroom. We had everything we needed and the room was clean and comfortable. The staff were all amazing, nothing was too much trouble and they dealt with the distancing and sanitising really professionally. the breakfast was lovely and all cooked to order.
The Hotel is perfectly located for easy access to all parts of Criccieth with car parking provided. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, it was really good value and we would definitely stay here again.

We stayed for 2 nights, (Monday and Tuesday). We had a room with a partial sea view which was very comfortable, warm and spotless. The ensuing bathroom was modern, fresh and clean with a great shoes. Breakfast was excellent as was the service and the food in the bar was also fabulous. The staff are friendly and helpful. Overall a lovely experience. We definitely recommend a stay at this hotel.

Came here on a travelzoo deal for my birthday 12/3/2020 for a couple of nights. We had a fantastic break. The staff were so welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us. Our room was fantastic, we even got a sea view. The bedroom and bathroom were very spacious and comfortable, nice touches were bottled water and biscuits each day. Cooked breakfast everything morning, superb. We ate in the bar on the first night food was very good and reasonable drink prices. Lovely beer garden which we enjoyed a drink in the sunshine. Will definitely be back.

We have just spent 2 nights staying at The Lion Hotel. The hotel is well placed a short stroll from the beach and shops. There is free parking at the hotel but on-street parking is also available. The staff were welcoming and friendly. All Covid safety regulations were followed and a one way system and hand sanitiser was available throughout the hotel. Our room was spacious, very clean and nicely decorated. Breakfast on both mornings was freshly cooked and very good. We ate in Llewellyns restaurant on our first night and the food was delicious. We would have no hesitation in recommending a stay here and hope to return in the future.

The Lion Hotel was in a really good location, only a 5-10 minute walk from the beach and a 45 minute drive to Snowdon. There wasn't a huge amount of parking available but there was space on the nearby roads and the hotel notes down your numberplate so they know you're a guest.
Room was very basic and the shower wasn't great as had very low pressure, plus the hot tap in the sink took about 5 minutes to heat up and when it did was scolding hot.
The bar and restaurant were both only open to guests so very quiet but good service. The food for both dinner and breakfast was lovely with huge portions and quite a few gluten free options which were fantastic.
All of the staff we spoke with were very friendly and helpful.

Good Afternoon and thank you for taking your time to write us this review. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. It was a decision we took when COVID appeared in our lives that we would only offer our services to our Guests only. This being the reason so that we could control the number of guests we had in our hotel. We have finally opened back to public as of the 1st of April

The location of the hotel in central Criccieth is superb, away from the busy roads but still very central and within a few minutes walk of the sea front. Staff all very efficient and friendly, and the Covid restrictions in place were properly implemented and not too intrusive.
Restaurant food is perfectly ok, decent pub standard maybe, but the dining room is a little soulless due to the Covid related spacing. Breakfast is good - just the coffee could have been better - instant coffee in a pot (or possibly very cheap filter coffee) stood out for us. But all in all good value and would return.

We have just stayed at The Lion for a few nights while on a golf trip. Absolutely delighted that we were booked into this hotel, will certainly be staying there again soon. Everyone that works there is so nice and helpful. Rooms are great and it is bang in the middle of town close to everything and near all the good golf courses. These guys even dried our wet golf gear after a very wet round and even packed us breakfast sandwiches as we had an early start. Also, one of the best breakfasts I have had in ages, thanks guys

This was our third stay at The Lion in the last 2 years and we have been very happy customers each time. Our family room has been spotless each time and is very spacious, light and airy. The hotel is in a great position just off the village green and we never seem to have trouble parking. We enjoy eating in the restaurant as the food is excellent (and plentiful!). Finally, the staff are always happy, helpful and welcoming and are a real credit to the hotel. We will definitely be staying again!

Hi
Have you advised us that you have a dog with you already? Can you advise when you are staying so I can check suitability of the room allocated.
We like to give guests with dogs rooms that have ease of access to the outside for ealkies. Wjilst dogs are welcome in bedrooms they are not permitted in any internal public area,
Many thanks
