Only booked for one night (as they were fully booked up) but wish we could have stayed longer.
The owners went out of their way to ensure tents had dry, well-drained pitches (even though they’d just experienced severe storms). They were incredibly helpful upon arrival and always very friendly.
Toilets and showers were spotless (I also saw a washing machine but didn’t use it myself). Site was quiet and friendly and all appeared to be families. Having stayed at other sites that allow big groups we wanted somewhere more cozy and safe for children (which this is).
Had a wander round the site - there’s lots of room between tents/caravans and different areas to pitch up with their own amenities blocks. All have really great views, especially the ones further up the hill ‘the knoll’ which were magnificent.
The whole site was spotless and very well kept but with fabulous wooded areas for kids to explore.
We will definitely return; hopefully for longer this time!

We haven’t camped for over 20 years so wasn’t sure what to expect. This is a wonderful site-we were warmly greeted by the lovely owners and shown to a pitch with an electric hook up. The site facilities are traditional and spotlessly clean all of the time! Each time we went there was a member of staff cleaning. The individual showers were a real bonus in COVID times and the water was really hot. The site has taken safety seriously and every precaution has been made to stop the spread e.g. continuous cleaning, sinks blocked off to ensure distancing, sanitising products everywhere, distancing between tents. There are amazing walks straight out of the site and you can just pop to the shops in Porthmadog where there is a Tesco,Lidl,Aldi,Millets etc. It’s so well located for exploring Snowdonia and one of our favourite walks was around Llyn Trawsfyndd-a 9 mile circular route which was so peaceful. Finally,it really is quiet after 10.30 which is just great-and all you can hear is the chorus of owls chatting away. Magic.

First stay at Barcdy and we would love to come back again. Check in was quick and simple, a list of campsite rules are given to you upon arrival and if you read them and follow the rules you shouldn’t encounter any problems (all of the rules are also on their website for you to view before booking). Toilets and showers are immaculate at all times, laundry room has washers/dryers you can use for a fee, a hairdryer which is free to use and 3 sinks to wash up (washing up liquid provided but will need your own sponge etc, I take all my own washing stuff anyway just incase). There is also a shelf in the laundry room which has a selection of both adult and children’s books you can borrow, and a selection of leaflets for local attractions. Campsite itself (bottom field) was lovely. We went during an off peak time so had plenty of space to pitch our tent and gazebo which came in handy when we decided to purchase a new, bigger tent midway through our stay. Water taps are close to the pitches too which saves a trek. Other campers were respectful of the rules and we had no problems at all with noise or sleeping. The road can get a little louder around 7am so that is something to bare in mind if you are easily woken, it didnt bother us though. Bins are clean and labelled for easy use.

My tip for campers is to make sure your food is securely put away on a night time. We made the mistake of leaving a bin bag in our gazebo with leftovers in on the first night and were woken up by what we thought might be a badger rattling around inside the gazebo after the leftovers. I got up and cleaned any mess that had been made and we had a good laugh about it, however later in the week we were woken again at around midnight by a fox inside our tent with us. Just to clarify we did not change our tent because of the first incident, we bought a new tent because the gazebo I had purchased wasn’t very good and we decided a bigger tent would be a better option for ourselves. I had to get up to let the fox out as the poor thing had trapped itself inside and was scared, our food was put away correctly this time but it must have been able to still smell the box we were storing it in. Again we had a good laugh about it when it was over and we will forever remember our camping trip with fantastic Mr Fox. We will keep our food in the car over night for all future camping trips. The fact that foxes roam the site at night just goes to show how close to nature you really are at Barcdy. I’d come back here in a heartbeat

A lovely spacious and quiet campsite for all to enjoy.

The facilities provided were excellent and always spotlessly cleaned.

The owners were great and always helpful and happy.

The 10:30pm quiet time was always followed and you could hear a pin drop, it was great after a long day and sleep is the only thing one wants to do.

Location wise you are 10 minutes or so from Porthmadog, all your shopping can be done here. 5 minutes or so from Portmeirion and then less than 30/40 minutes from Snowdon/Zipworld etc.

Would definitely stay at Barcdy again...the weather during our trip hasn’t dampened our review

we stayed here last week, what a lovely quiet and clean campsite.
On arrival we realised our electric hook up didnt reach the socket so a quick call to reception and the lovely owner was down with an extension cable or the option to change pitch.
The campsite is very quiet and no noise after 10.30pm which suited us, as we were able to get to bed early then up and out the next morning.
We found a few things such as Castles shut due to Covid and its best to book activities in advance online. We still found plenty to do including the Snowdon Mountain Railway, Mountain biking in Coed Y Brenin and Paddle Boarding on Lake Bala.
Shops and supermarkets a short drive away at Porthmadog where you can get most items including shopping, take aways, camping and sports gear ( Tesco, Aldi, Lidl, Post Office, Sports Direct and Millets) just 5 mins drive away.
One night we didnt fancy cooking so had food from Porthmadog Kebab and pizza house - highly recommended if you like that sort of food - best kebab ive ever had!
The field itself did get a bit boggy but that was due to a week of downpours and Storm Francis so not fault of the owners there.
The showers and toilets remained spotless even with the muddy boots in and out.
We were sad to cut our week a day short due to my son being in an accident ( offsite ) but hope to stay again to enjoy the peace and quiet at Barcdy.

We visited Barcdy in the last week in August and loved the site. Facilities were spotless, lots of cleaning taking place and sanitiser available.

It was our first proper holiday with a touring caravan and the owners were really helpful especially when we had some problems changing the gas. They were an absolutely lovely couple and a pleasure from the moment we arrived until we left.

All the pitches were well maintained and the setting is absolutely stunning. A perfect location for exploring, walks, beaches, trips out.

We have three children under the age of 10 who are definitely boisterous and never felt like we couldn’t relax or make noise. We’re happy to be quiet after 10.30pm and that rule was one of the reasons we booked - the website is really clear on this. Have absolutely no desire to have our children woken up or be disturbed by the big groups that have left negative reviews!

Would absolutely return to this site and highly recommend. Thank you so much for making our first trip such a great one.

Just come back from a three night break at Barcdy, and had another great time. Karen, the owner, is so friendly and can’t do enough for you. We forgot our margarine for our bacon butties on Saturday morning so I went to ask if she had a bit we could use and she gave me a whole tub! Place was so clean and was cleaned more often due to covid and apart from the odd few people, the communal areas were kept spotless and follows the rules.
Can’t wait to stay there again.

High praise from our 3yr and 5yr old granddaughters. They loved every minute of our stay, and so did we. We we're all together for 5 days here . Our base was our 2 campervans on the camping field where the kids tumbled about, bounced on hoppers, chased bubbles to their heart's content while parents and grandparents provided the audience. We really appreciated the dog free site, which meant the kids could freely go barefoot, roll on the grass etc.
Choose this site for its simplicity, cleanliness and peaceful nature, don't come if you need high tech entertainment. Thank you team Barcdy for a great bundle of family fun, and thank you to our fellow campers - like-minded spirits!

Myself, my partner, the children and my brother, his wife and daughter stayed here recently for just under a week.

The camp is great from tourers to statics to tents.
There is a laundrette on site, shower cubical and toilets.
The showers and toilets are some of the cleanest I’ve ever seen on a campsite. You can smell the detol when you walk in.
We had an amazing time here. The weather was boss and the company too.
We spoke to the owners a fair few times and they’re down to earth, sound husband wife and family run.

I will be back ASAP to this site defiantly. Found our new campsite defiantly now.

There’s so much to do nearby also. We went crabbing in portmadog, the estuary beach, steam trains up Snowdon.

And if you don’t mind the drive it’s around 25 min drive to one of the best rated chippys.

We had our family and let me tell you we aren’t the quietest. Don’t listen to these negative reviews on here honestly as long as you don’t take the piss and let me tell you people did and we was even like wow how can you carry on being that loud in a family campsite.

1000% recommend this campsite you will not be disappointed.

Can’t wait to be here again!

Until next time Barcdy

Thank you for your lovely review and we are pleased you and your children enjoyed your time here. We hope the loud group did not disturb you too much but, unfortunately we are getting campers from other sites that are not opening this year that do allow late night drinking. Hope to see you and your family back soon.

Like a concentration camp, no Radios allowed in the day or night. no noise at all after 10:30pm, the owners come round and aggressively tell people to go to bed, smelling of alcohol.

On our first night the owners told us we had to leave the next morning because our children were making some noise because they were excited.

If you want to have fun and relax don’t come here, the owners are trying to run a campsite with the same rules as a library.

Several families had the same experience here, it’s a lovely site too and a shame we had the experience we did. It made my wife and others very anxious on returning to the site after spending time at the beach

Your group booked separately to hide the fact, as stated on our website, we do not accept group bookings. We do expect further reviews from your group. Thank you for clarifying what we put on our website, we do expect no noise after 10:30pm and we do patrols to make people aware that it is time to start being quiet when children are settling down to sleep. There are camp sites that do allow you to drink and make as much noise as you please until early hours, we are not one of those sites. Your feeble excuse for your threatening behaviour towards our female staff was that it was her fault as she sent you to the local pub and you had to wait much longer for food. We welcome people who have good camping etiquette and respect other fellow campers who wish to sleep and enjoy a relaxing holiday and not be kept awake by drunken groups. For people reading this review please note, we are a quiet family site, we do not accept unruly behaviour, if you want to party through the night please look elsewhere.
