Spacious room, very quiet and a comfortable bed. Welsh breakfast was served hot and cooked well. We had a nice evening meal there, steak pie and Balti and dessert of fruit crumble which was good value, the young waitress was very good. Hotel in a nice village that also has some good walks.
Loo leaked a bit in bathroom but wasn’t a problem for one night, room very cold on arrival but a blow heater soon warmed it up. Overall a good stay.

This is a lovely little hotel, it is a 1700s building so steeped with history even the staircase is grade one listed so can't change them. Has all the original beams n fireplaces. Bathroom is modern and large in the quadriple bedroom. Room very large. Beds comfortable n rooms clean with kettle tea n coffee. If you are looking for modern smart then this is not for you. Situated in a quiet little village so is quiet n quaint. Dinner was lovely and decent portions and not expensive. Breakfast choice of cereals and cooked breakfast all from local butchers. Sausages n bacon was delicious. Staff very friendly the 2 girls in bar were great. Lady on reception that welcomed us was friendly and helpful. Chef Emma was excellent with son whose tooth came loose so couldn't eat, she offered ice cream, ice drink cake etc. In morning we checked out and a little envelope with £1 was in saying hope your tooth fell out and feel better. Could not fault this place and if came back we wouldn't hesitate staying there. I never do reviews but they 1000% deserve it. Thanks ladies n gents.

Stayed here last week on way to Lake Vyrnwy and cannot fault the place. Set in the quiet Welsh village of LLanfyllin, this 17th century old coaching Inn is the perfect overnight stay. Booking was easy on line and we were welcomed at reception with ample free parking at the rear of the premises. Staff were friendly, courteous and helpful and so were the locals who I spoke to at the bar. They gave us tips on local walks and routes to the dam and everyone was welcoming. Our room on the top floor was huge with space to sleep 4 . It had a settee and large tv with hair dryer and coffee making facilities. A very comfortable nights sleep was had followed by an excellent hot Welsh Breakfast which set us up for the day.
The evening meal menu is superb and the Welsh Lamb Steak is to die for as is the fish pie. Coupled with first class ale on tap this is a little gem in the middle of nowhere. We could not have been made more welcome. Thank you to all.

Recently enjoyed a 2 night stay to celebrate our Anniversary .The room was large and very clean . Food on Half Board basis was very good as was the portion sizes. Both Breakfasts and Evening meals / desserts were all very enjoyable . Every member of Staff was friendly and polite .This Hotel would certainly have got 5* but for 2 very minor things that let it down a little for us .The tap water in both sinks in our room ran far too slow ,barely a trickle .Annoying even to fill the kettle .We were in the top floor room so i realise its a pressure issue ,although the shower worked well .The 2nd minor thing was, although the Hotel states it's dog friendly ,we were a little bit disappointed to find out on arrival that in the Evening they were not allowed in the restaurant . It wouldn't usually have mattered to us to be fair but we were celebrating a Special Anniversary and was a little bit disappointed to be seated next to the bar on both nights. ( Nothing bad with the bar though ) We would not have booked the Half Board option if we had known this as there are plenty of other pubs in the area that we could have chosen to eat at with lovely gardens accepting dogs. Just to add our dog is extremely well behaved ,but we do understand its for hygiene reasons ,although allowing them at Breakfast in the same Restaurant room is a little confusing .
Just to reiterate .Yes we would recommend you book this Hotel we had an enjoyable stay visiting the 2 Lakes in the area , Lake Bala & Lake Vyrnwy.

Wen to the hotel restaurant for an evening meal, the restaurant was dog friendly so we were able to take our two dogs with us. We both had the Thai fish cakes to start then my wife had the curry with half and half chips/rice which she said was very good, meanwhile I had the sirloin steak I asked for it to be cookrd blue which is very often a big ask but the chef did an excellent job.
Overall the meal was excellent i wish we had gone in earlier in the holiday instead of at the end because we would have gone in again, the staff were very friendly and did not hover,

We pulled up for our 2 night stay to be greeted at the door quite rudely. I arrived at 2:10pm and explained to the man at the door I was here for a booking for a two night stay, abruptly I was told "we are not open yet, check-in is not until 3pm". I knew that but I wasn't able to finish my sentence that we just wanted to leave our vehicle. When I eventually was able to ask if I could we went over the road to another pub for a drink to wait until 3pm. A nice, "sorry, we are not checking people in to 3pm" would have been nicer. In fact, at one pint whilst drinking our drink in the other pub, we thought about driving to the next town to stay! Now, I am glad we never. We went back to check in an hour later and we were greeted by the manager Sean. What a lovely, friendly welcome we got. He showed us to our room which was huge and full of character and charm that you would expect from a 17th Century hotel. It was clean, welcoming and quirky...we loved it. The floorboards creaked and the birds were heard in the roof rafters above us but if we wanted boring rooms then we would have gone to a premier inn. This is a 17th century hotel with a magnificent original staircase and wood framing not a modern building. It's charm was made even more better at evening dinner when we were greeted by a local lady (we think she works there but it was her day off). She showed us our seat in the dining area and chatted about the age and history of the building. We ordered a starter, a main meal each and a desert each. The choices were ample to chooses from and to suit all tastes and when our dishes arrived, the food was amazing. 10/10 for everything we had. the service was great and our dog was made to feel as welcome as we were. breakfast on both days was also delicious. All fresh produce and not your usual cheap bacon and sausages you would get in a branded hotel. We drank in the local bar section of the hotel both nights and were greeted with friendly, smiley happy faces and staff and locals who chatted along with us. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone, made special by the friendly manager Sean and his team and the amazing food we had. Thank you to all the team at Cain Valley and to the locals. I am so pleased that the first greeting we had (it was the chef) did not put us off and the chef certainly made up for it by producing the food he did.

Visited this hotel for two nights and ate both evening meals in the hotel. The hotel is a classic establishment built in the late 1800's and brought up to date, albeit a few years ago,

The food and ale were of a high quality and good value.

The room was comfortable, spacious and again good value.

They provide secure motorcycle and cycle storage in a gararge.

I will return again

Just enjoyed a lovely weekend here.
Very friendly staff, excellent chef, really good service from all the staff especially at meal times.
Our room (11) was very comfortable, with a power shower en suite.
We did the three day d,b&b deal which was brilliant as the food was wonderful and very generous, and it’s so relaxing not having to traipse around a town looking for eateries on dark evenings.
Great for Powis castle.
We would definitely stay again.

Would not recommend eating here after recent experience. Two items on dinner menu very over cooked.
Removed from bill but left dining room having eaten just the vegetables fot dinner!
Which were cooked well.
Needed to request young man serving breakfast to wear a mask which is after all a requirement and for the safety of everyone!
Other members of staff appear also not to be wearing face covering!

We had an unplanned stop over to break up a long journey and found Llanfyllin to be an interesting little town and had a pleasurable stay. The bar area at Cain valley is cosy and we had an excellent steak and ale pie for lunch sat in the warm. The breakfast was excellent with good quality bacon and sausage. We didn't eat in the evening as we were still full from lunch! Unfortunately we did have some issues with our room but they weren't able to move us as they were full. However the owner Mark was an shining example in how to provide excellent customer service in how he dealt with this. He made us feel valued and listened to and discounted our room rate to compensate. We left thinking we would be very happy to stay again and will make sure we ask for the room he suggested next time!
