What a stunning location, and we understand why Mum & John were so determined to get us here after coming last year for their anniversary celebration. Covid rules didn't allow us too so now we're here! Our lodge room is the epitome of comfort, our pooch Reggie is lost comfortably accommodated too and even welcomed by staff almost as much as we were! Dinner was fantastic last night and we look forward to tonight with great anticipation to try it all again. A 2 night stay is a must as you'll feel more rested and you'll have time to enjoy the beautiful landscape in stunning Wales. Thank you for your care and hospitality all.
Realising the age demographic of this hotel, it is extremely surprising that in the bathroom I had, I didn’t have any handrails to hold on to when using the shower. There was no bath mat (which is understandable at the moment) but that made the bath very slippery when using shower gel. This could be extremely dangerous. Also I was not able to use the bath at all, because there was no handrail to enable me to get out of the bath. A bath rail set at about 45 degrees i.e. sloping would be ideal. If this bathroom is similar to others in the hotel it would be advisable to get advice from an occupational therapist or physiotherapist to ascertain a way forward on this matter. The hotel is set in a very quiet location - ideal for de-stressing. I had a glorious mud massage, reflexology and a head massage, which was amazing. The menu was limited, especially the choice of desserts. The staff were always pleasant and attentive. Though there were delays in service on a couple of evenings. The hotel has extensive grounds as well as a lake and a fishing river, a putting green and a croquet lawn. There are many places to visit within short distances of this hotel. Good weather helps!…
We (2 adults plus three children) stayed in mid-August 2021 and wanted to review after seeing the negative review posted recently which we felt was unfair. This is a quiet country house hotel, no doubt, and has all the characteristics that you would expect of such a hotel. Set in extensive grounds, its a lovely building with wonderful, traditional public areas and very nice guest rooms. Food was very good and service was excellent...our experience was that the reception of the hotel was very happy to organise our use of the spa on our behalf. It is quiet though so if you are looking for a busy bar open to late then this is not the place for you!
Extremely dated place, don’t book to stay here if you are expecting a great hotel/spa collaboration. The hotel and the spa seem to be completely different businesses with little communication between the two. Beds and rooms are comfy enough but very very noisy both from outside and inside. Dinner was good food wise but awkward as hell, we ended up being the last people in the restaurant, with no music or any kind of ambience it felt like we were in the Shining. Would not recommend, although the waiting staff were lovely
We booked here to break the journey from North Wales to South Wales. Really lovely property off the beaten track. Our room had just been refurbished and with a couple of slight changes ( the TV position and some voile or similar on the windows), would have been exceptional. The room was above the glass roofed orangery and in direct eye line of people walking in the grounds as the property is set in a dip. But there were only blinds on the plain glass windows even in the bathroom, so unless you wanted to be seen, there was no natural light in the room. Food was lovely and staff delightful especially Melissa.
