We were very disappointed with our room. Our room was drab, shabby, tired and very very dusty it clearly had not been given a good clean in a long while. Scruffy curtains and other fixtures too needed mending and cleaning. We were given a free night after we complained but we were so cross that this 4* hotel was not living up to our expectations or the blurb on the web site. There was nothing luxurious about our room it was grotty and in desperate need of refurbishing. We were charged 4* prices for a 2* room. A great shame.
I visited with my husband and daughter, words cannot describe the amazing view from our room overlooking the lake. The staff were so friendly and went above and behond to help in any way, the food was delicious, breakfast, afternoon tea and the Tower Brasserie were all fantastic. Spa treatments are lovely! It is such a lovely building with so many lovely places to sit and admire the amazing views and so tranquil , I didnt want to come home and am already planning to come back soon. Thank you to all at Lake vyrnwy Hotel
This is such a difficult hotel to review as I want to rate things separately rather than as a whole. POSITIVES The location is absolutely stunning. Our room - a lake view room, No 2, was ideal for the lake view and it was like looking out onto a fairytale scene. We could also see the bird feeders below and saw a variety of birds feeding as well as a Pheasant on the ground and a very ingenious squirrel who used his tail to shelter his back from the rain whilst feeding! On arrival we sat outside on the terrace looking at the view - drinks were priced as expected for a hotel - £10.50 for a glass of wine and a Peroni. Breakfast - a continental one in our room was okay - orange juice, coffee, croissants (very small), toast, jam, oatmeal, cereals etc... NEGATIVES I appreciate the hotel is an old building in a remote place and as such, you expect the rooms to have an older feel to them but there were things that could/should have been remedied - a loose door handle on the bathroom, chipped tiles by the toilet/sink and very poor wifi. We ordered food in the evening in our room as as we were not that hungry we went for 2 starters each - imagine our surprise to find out we were paying £8 for 2 small scallops! Even for a hotel I think that's a bit out of order! Our 4 starters came to £31. I also noticed that if you leave booking until the last minute, you can actually get the rooms far cheaper than booking in advance! If this was a hotel where we had paid between £100 to £125 a room I would be rating it 5 stars but given that we paid just short of £200 for a room, I would have expected better and not to be taken advantage of with food prices. Maybe offering a set priced menu would help? I have booked again for August with friends for my husband's 60th birthday as this is somewhere we have all wanted to enjoy and i hope I can increase my rating then.…
3 night DB&B stay in Superior Lake View Room. Due to covid meals served to the room but with the view from our veranda that was fine. Lovely drive round the lake. Lots of great walks. Would love to return when indoor catering opens. Thanks to all the staff.
Had a one night stay at the hotel and upgraded to a room within a balcony- the views are breathtaking over the lake. The only noise is the bleating of sheep and bird song. The rooms are traditional and spacious with a selection of tea/coffee. Due to covid restrictions we had dinner and breakfast via room service-very prompt and ease of ordering. Breakfast consisted of a choice of pastries, toast, meat cheese, fruit, waffles, overnight oats. We had the 3 course dinner all of which was very nice- not very warm due to the room service but understandable In the current climate. The location is beyond beautiful and great for outdoors activities and long scenic walks. Would highly recommend and I will be returning. Wales at its very best.
