The hotel was clean, tidy, and a great location: within walking distance of the beach and pleasure park. Fan was provided in the room, plugs next to bed, TV with netflix and all the channels, ironing board and iron. great place to stop for a few nights and breakfast in bed was fantastic!

would of liked to have the option for 2 single beds but had to share a double bed which although was a comfy bed, meant i had a poorer night sleep as i prefer my own space. Could of also done with some chairs in the room, especially as i had to eat breakfast on my bed.

B&B was great and i would definitely recommend for those visiting barry!

Room Tip: Parking permit requires you to park on the next street which was absolutely fine but just be sure...

Considering that they are still operating under strict Covid regulations we were really impressed by our stay at Gail's.
Plenty of free on-road parking close to the guest house and we had no problem picking up the room keys near the entrance.
The staff were on-call for extra room coffee and tea; we only met Lucy but she was so helpful.
We were in room #2 and it was more than satisfactory. Really nice shower, TV and fridge and a good WiFi signal. Everything was super clean and tidy.
Breakfast in the room, also due to Covid, was exceptional. A full fry-up with all the trimmings.
Location wise it was perfect. 5 minutes walk to the path down to Jackson Bay, and the train station also really convenient.
I really don't know why people are moaning. The staff are currently operating under strict Covid controls. They are doing an amazing job.

Everywhere was spotless, Lyndon and Lucy are very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast in bed was delicious and the bed was so comfortable I had the best night's sleep for ages. The location is very handy for the beach and other attractions and parking was easy and free.
I shall definitely be visiting again.

we arrived at Gail's guest house in Barry on the 24th of march , after receiving an email saying the room keys were waiting for us in the hallway in reception , we got to our room that we thought was at the top and looked very nice and spacious were were somewhat dismayed when we found we were actually staying in a shoe box room , although clean and tidy the bedroom window was badly fitted and the wind was blowing the curtains away from the window as it was a stormy night , the room was freezing there was NO heating on and no additional bedding as in extra blankets , we spent a freezing night with not much sleep due to the wind gusting through the window . we couldn't have a shower as the shower head was broken . we were told to fill out a breakfast menu to witch we did and we clearly put for the both of us to have a cooked breakfast and we gave to form to the management and told him our room number and that it was for the both of us , but upon entering the dinning room in the morning we were presented with one breakfast we were fuming also it was while waiting for our breakfast i observed the cook management pinching some mushrooms off the the other couples plates with no gloves on that is in breach of covid rules as well as basic hygiene rules i would not recomend this guest house to anyone . and to top it all we thought they had taken our payment when we booked as we gave our details but we were contacted after leaving to be told that we had not paid for our stay , after settling up for our stay we apologised for their mistake as at no time were we told that the payment hadn't been taken until we had left . this is very poor service and will not be returning to Gail's guest house in the future .

We stayed for 3 nights and the guest house itself was absolutely spotless, Lucy made us feel so welcomed, nothing was too much trouble for her.
It was our little girls birthday and she even went out of her way to bring a little cake with candles lit and Birthday card for her.
We will definately be staying here again in the future.

It is with a heavy heart I write this review as I appreciate is an independent business and times have been hard due to Covid, however I feel I have to be honest.

I booked Gails guest house as it had overall great reviews and is advertised as a 4 star guest house. Unfortunately my expectations were not met.

First off when we arrived we was not greeted by anyone, we used the ring door bell and could not hear the other person on the other end at all. Our key had been left out for us and we were given no instructions about parking etc.

On a positive note the email said check in was from 4pm but we arrived at 14.30 and our room was ready.

The room was billed as a double however in our opinion it was a single room and they had shoe horned a double bed in there, one side of the bed next to the wall, therefor no space to put your phone/drink etc it felt very claustrophobic.

On a positive note lol the bed was very comfortable and the sheets clean.

Areas that need attending to:
*Cracked mirror needs replacing
*Toilet roll holder and shower holder broken, need replacing
*Shower tray broken, needs fixing
*Wall paint on ceiling, overall shoddy finish with decorating
*Cracked floor tiles

We were advised by a note in the room that breakfast was to be served in the bedroom due to Covid restrictions. Whilst I appreciate people are trying their best during Covid times we found this to be unacceptable. The room was just too small! I don’t quite understand how we were able to be in a bar in town full to the rafters with people yet we were not able to site in their dining room and be served breakfast at a proper table..? Restaurants are open and serving people and I expected the same treatment in the guesthouse.

On a positive note the breakfast was of good quality and very tasty.

I cannot comment on the friendliness of the hosts as we actually had very little interaction with them.

When checking out we went to pay to then be told we needed a parking permit and that we had been lucky not to have received a ticket whilst parked for the last 2 days (the roads have no yellow lines or parking bays and the signs are very unclear regarding parking restrictions).

Overall, I would probably say that if you lower your expectations this guest house would be fine for 1 or 2 nights, however as it is advertised as 4 stars I feel you would be disappointed.

Arrived at Gail's guest house booked for 2 nights £90 a night, large metal shutter was down, no one came to the door to meet us, the ring door bell was dodgy couldn't here from it properly, turns out door was open, went in key was in a piece of paper, went to room within 10 minutes partner smacked his head on sloping ceiling drawing blood, I rang owners asked for different room, was told they didn't have one, but they would waver cancellation fee if we decided to leave.
5 mins later Lyndon arrived and showed us 2 other rooms, we accepted room 2, it was very small, bed was broken had to stack books under it to stop it collapsing, knows came off the end of bed, breakfast we had to eat in our room, which we weren't told about, view from window was disgusting, paper for shower room for getting out of the shower.
Grouting gone on bathroom floor, cutlery was dirty, was given 2 glasses for wine, they were still dirty from previous users, shower trap dirty with lots of hair, 1st room shower head had previous occupants hair all over it.
We were given the 2 nights for £75 would rather have paid full amount and had a great stay.

Having read the reviews I’m really struggling to believe this is the same guest house we stayed in!
On driving up Plymouth Road I was desperately hoping we’d got the wrong Gail’s Guest House but sadly I was wrong.
The area is awful - I can’t think of another description without using foul language.
There were no staff on the premises and my husband had to call a mobile number and was told where the keys to the rooms were.
The rooms are nothing like the ones in the photos on here. They are tiny with cheap fixtures and fittings. The en-suite in one of the rooms is tiny and the trim is coming off shower unit and the toilet seat is broken, along with a broken mirror in the room itself.
As for the other room which has a private bathroom but isn’t en-suite, there was a very strong smell of damp and again the furniture was clearly very cheap.
We were advised that unfortunately due to COVID breakfast couldn’t be served in the dining room. Needless to say we didn’t stick around to have breakfast served in our room.
I’m just so glad that we were only booked in for one night.

We booked Gails as it appeared pretty central for exploring Barry and the Island. It is indeed but a short walk from everywhere but more importantly is clean, welcoming with good size rooms. We stayed in room 3 and the shower room was perfect plenty of power in the shower. The host are truly accommodating and nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast are selected from an extensive menu and delivered to your room in your selected time slot. They were delicious. A great guest house, exceptional value and we will definitely return. Let’s hope we get great weather again.

WOW, WOW and WOW...
What an Absolutely Stunning Guest House.
Lucy and Lyndon are Absolutely brilliant, helpful and have a great sense of humour (9.30 Guests should be in bed 🤣)
Breakfast bought up to the room, and it was Delicious, and hot.
The room was perfect, as soon as we walked in we felt like it was home. The beds very comfortable, en-Suite shower room, a fridge in the wardrobe and a flat screen TV.
If you want the Perfect Guest House with the Perfect Hosts/Owners then this is definitely for you.
Barry Island is an easy walk away, and only a 25 minute walk into Broad Street, Barry to a Wetherspoons pub.
We will definitely be going back to this Guest House again and again.

Just down the hill - I'd say 5 minutes there, 10 minutes back. You can see the ferris wheel from the top of the road outside the guest house.
