When my friend and I booked accommodations at Surf House San Pancho, I really didn't know what to expect. I had assumed it was a big, impersonal hostal with rotating staff and many beds. As it turns out, the house only sleeps six at a time, and the owners, Luis and Bianca, are also the only staff.

The intimacy this creates was a wonderful surprise. I felt more like a house guest than a customer. Luis and Bianca treat you like good friends, and consequently, you end up spending most of your time with them as well as the other guests. Bianca makes the most amazing meals for breakfast and dinner, which is included in the price. You end up getting to know the other guests very well since you share meals together, go surfing together, and generally are on the same schedule throughout your stay. It kinda brought me back to my childhood when I would spend a week at camp, and leave with lots of fond memories and new friends.

I would say this is a great place to stay if you generally prefer a hostal-like environment and are not looking for a private, resort-like getaway. If you are a social person and enjoy meeting new people, or are a solo traveler and would like to have some friends to share your vacation with, then this is the place for you. Also, surfing is a huge component of Surf House San Pancho, as the name implies. If you love to surf, or are interested in learning how to surf, then this is the place for you. Luis was such an excellent instructor. There were three of us who had either never surfed, or had only surfed a few times, and all three of us were able to ride a few very small waves to the shore by the end of a week. Both Luis and Bianca are so encouraging to those of us who were learning. Their positive attitude was infectious - we were all cheering each other on and celebrating our small surfing successes!

It was such a special experience. I had so much more fun than I possibly could have imagined. It was only five days, but it felt like 10. I really can't say enough great things about this place.

What a great day! I cannot say enough good things about our experience. Bianca and Luis picked us up from our house in Sayulita and we headed to a fantastic private beach. This was my first time ever attempting to surf and I felt totally comfortable with them. Luis provided great instruction and encouragement, and the setting was incredible. We had great conversation on the beach afterward, and I really look forward to visiting again! Thank you for an excellent day

Had such a great time at Bianca and Luis' Surf House in the beautiful town of San Pancho (San Francisco). Our surf instructors Johnny and Ruma were so patient and nice during my beginner surfing lessons. San Pancho is a beautiful little town, I would skip Sayulita if you're looking and stay in San Pancho, we did Sayulita as a day trip. It was a really fun trip full of adventure and new experiences!

We are a 52 year old/16 year old father/son duo who were in Mexico for our first time. We don't speak any Spanish. Our priority was surfing. We spent 12 days at SHSP. I was afraid going in that it might be too long at one place but it was not at all. We had a fantastic time at Surf House San Pancho. Bianca and Luis are gracious hosts and Bianca cooks a fantastic breakfast. There was always more than we could eat, and it would carry us through a long surf-session. Bianca and Luis are both knowledgable, dedicated, enthusiastic and patient teachers, and though we are not beginner surfers by any means we were able to learn a lot from them. The beginners who overlapped with us were very happy with their time there also. They take their job seriously and do look after the beginners in the water (and out -- including sunscreen application, at least if you're 16!)
Bianca and Luis both speak excellent English and I really had a good time getting to know these well-informed and interesting people. They enjoy their work and really make people feel at home. I also got exposed to some new tunes! (Wake up…..it's a beautiful morning……)
I feel really lucky to have stumbled on SHSP on the internet. The surfing was interesting and varied, and good! The town of San Pancho is 'genuine" and we enjoyed feeling that we were part of the town. The unexpected surprise was that Luis and Bianca really enjoy their food and joined us for all post-surf meals and many evening meals -- it was a delight to receive a "guided tour" of the local eateries and to interact with the local people -- all of whom seem to be friends with Luis and Bianca.
Finally, I was very impressed with the overall ethos of their business. They are very community-oriented and pride themselves on sourcing food and supplies from local providers. They are proactively involved in many local issues with an aim to establishing a sustainable and responsible local economy and community. I feel that every penny I spent on this holiday went directly to a local Mexican family.
In summary, we met some great people, had some great food, had a great introduction to Mexico, and felt we contributed to the local economy in a meaningful way….oh, and some great surfing! What more could you ask for?

I went to the surf house in October 2014 and had a great time. I was the only one signed up for the week, which meant I had the villa to myself and pretty much had one on one lessons (another guy, Tim, came with us sometimes). Bianca and Luis were really friendly and very supportive with the surfing. I couldn’t surf at all when I arrived and by the time I left I could catch the white wash and surf to the shore. I had a great week at the Surf House and was sad to leave. It was my birthday while I was there and Bianca and Luis were really kind to me, and even got a cake. Loved it. By the end they were my friends as well as my surf instructors and I really hope to go back some day.

Since leaving I also realise it was the best food in Mexico too!

I’ve written more about my trip on my blog here: http://vickyflipfloptravels.com/surf-house-san-pancho/

I can't praise Bianca and Luis for what they do at Surf House. These two are the most sincere and caring people I have ever met. I was supposed to stay at Surf House for four nights but out in the line up at La Lancha I had a freak wipeout that fractured the head of my femur. From the initial ambulance ride to the hospital in San Pancho to the final arrangements to be air evacuated back to Colorado for an emergency Hip Replacement Bianca helped me take care of all the logistics and translation. Their home is lovely, they are deeply concerned with your experience in San Pancho and their hearts are huge!

Thank you so much Kerry for taking the time to write and for your generous words .We are happy to hear that all worked out well in the end, and that you are already recovering. So sorry that your time in Mexico came to such an unexpected and abrupt ending, especially since you were doing so great in the lineup, and the waves were fun knee-shoulder high and mellow. We have to say that you are the strongest 61 year old we met and it is so admirable that you decided to get back in the water after 25 years off surfing. We wish you a very speedy recovery and we hope you get back in the ocean soon. Best wishes and big hugs from San Pancho, we are looking forward to hearing from you.

I booked this trip to San Pancho for some much needed R & R. From the moment I arrived to the moment I departed I was blown away by Luis and Bianca's hospitality. Smiles, beers, laughs, and a pick up from the airport by Luis was fantastic. Once we arrived to the Surf house we were greeted by Luis' wife Bianca with fresh hot homemade coconut bread!!! and more beers!!! Being welcomed like that felt so good. The Surf House is located in the hills just above the tiny town of San Pancho and within walking distance to the beach, local restaurants, hot fresh tacos and more! The next morning we had an excellent home cooked breakfast by Bianca. Fresh omelets, fresh fruit, OJ, toast, and more homemade coconut bread! As a first time surfer I was a bit nervous, but Luis gave me so much confidence that I was up on my first wave in moments. Day after day, he gave me and others surfing insight and pointers to help us the next day. I got a little better, and more confident with Luis' help and patience. Luis is an excellent teacher. After returning to the Surf house for a post-surfing siesta , Bianca served us all a wonderful home cooked dinner. Each bite was so fresh!!!!mmmmmmm. Luis and Bianca left me loving my Surfin' Safari experience! They truly have a great thing going on at the Surf House San Pancho and I advise you to stay with them.

To begin with, the absolute best thing about Surf House San Pancho are it's owners, Bianca and Luis. This wife and husband duo are amazing, lovely, genuine people. Their personalities and energy absolutely make Surf House the great experience that it is.

When I initially booked for 7 nights, I thought it might prove to be too long. However, I truly could have stayed there for a month, so my first recommendation is that you stay for a week at the very least, to get the most out of the surfing and other aspects of the experience.

In terms of the surfing, I went into it with very low expectations as to what I'd be able to achieve. However, on the first day I was standing up, and on the second day, I was catching my own waves. All of that was down to Luis and Bianca's coaching. After 4 days of surfing, I was by no means a pro, but it has definitely left me with a desire to keep surfing.

The house itself is spacious and comfortable with areas that you can hang out in, like the roof, where you get a stellar 360 view of San Pancho. The beds were comfy, the shower never failed to deliver hot water. It should be noted that rooms are, in essence, dorms, which means that you may end up rooming with one other person depending on capacity at the house. But given the house only allows for 6 guests at any given time, you get to know your fellow travellers pretty well regardless.

Bianca's breakfasts. Wow. Other people have written about them, and how good they are, and it's all true. Every breakfast was delicious (crepes, omelettes, quiche and the famous banana bread) and also a perfect way to set you up for a day of surfing.

The town of San Pancho is a lovely place - very chilled, relaxed, with a nice beach, and a good selection of restaurants and shops. It probably won't appeal to people who like to party - for that, you'll need to head to the neighbouring town of Sayulita.

My one last tip, should you book, would be to call Bianca and Luis to pick you up once you've arrived in San Pancho. I made the mistake of thinking I could find the place on my own - it's a little bit hidden, so you'll save yourself a whole load of time and effort if you just give them a call.

Overall, I had an absolutely brilliant week staying at Surf House San Pancho. Bianca and Luis mentioned that they get a lot of repeat visitors, and now that I've stayed there, I can understand why. I, myself, am in no doubt that I'll be back there one day soon!

My brother and I spent 6 nights in the San Pancho surf house. This place is like a dream and I am so glad that we could have such a lovely experience there. I cant speak highly enough of Bianca and Luis who are truly the most genuine hosts I have ever had the experience of meeting. Unfortunately on the first day, bad timing but my brother was experiencing some pretty unpleasant effects of tacos eaten the previous day. Bianca and Luis were so hospitable, they bought him medicine and did everything they could to make him feel comfortable. Fortunately that passed and we could both make the most of the abundant and delicious meals that Bianca cooks for breakfast. Simple, rustic but honestly the most gorgeous food (the home made bread!!!). The beaches they took us to were beautiful and having their guidance is really the way to learn how to surf or improve your skills. They both have so much experience that they are quick to correct your mistakes and are excellent at analyzing form and technique. I cant really speak highly enough of both of them but can truly say my brother and I shared a fantastic week together. We both left humbled and inspired to have met such lovely people both doing something they love and wanting to share it with others. San Pancho is such a special place and I will definitely be back.
