Detailed Reviews
Bungalows Lydia is all about an AMAZING location with spectacular views and authentic Mexican architecture. We had a 180 degree plus view of the ocean and magnificent coastline from the panoramic room. We watched the whales spouting and breaching every morning over coffee, watched the waves crashing onto the rocks like fireworks, watched gorgeous sunsets, lines of pelicans skimming the water, and almost always had the two private beaches to ourselves. It was very hard to leave and we can't wait to return. It is a two mile drive on a windy cobblestone road through the jungle to San Pancho, which (for now) is a low key little town full of hippies, skate boarders, dogs, restaurants, shops and a lovely beach. $5 mexican meals at Maria's (not to be confused with Maria Bonita). Ammenities at Lydia's are minimal, so if these things are important to you, bring them: shampoo, coffee, hair dryer, cork screw, wine glasses, cooking oil, salt/pepper, dish soap. There are two hot tubs and an infinity pool with gorgeous views, but they are not heated. Probably very refreshing on a hot, humid day, but just pretty to look at on cooler winter days. Also, no air conditioning, although the ocean breezes are lovely. There are lots of lounges, a few hammocks, and cast iron garden furniture to go hang out, read, or have romantic sunset dinners (many people have meals delivered from town. ) Lydia and her sister, Mayte, are very helpful with suggestions and/or finding what you need for the room. Overall, it was a LOVELY experience!

We enjoyed 11 days in San Pancho, but finished up with 3 days at B Lydia. What we love is the peace and beauty of the setting. We like San Pancho a lot, but the town can be noisy, and smokey from people grilling outdoors and burning. In contrast, B. Lydia is a full -on nature experience: clean air, quiet, beautiful trees and shrubs, in a gorgeous garden, magnificent quiet beaches. If you don’t have a car, you will need to be organized around self-catering and arrive with all your groceries, or pay 150-200 pesos for a taxi ride to town. Our room was not properly cleaned when we arrived, but Lydia quickly remedied that when I told her. The owners clearly love this family treasure so it’s a very personal and special place. There were minor maintenance issues but we enjoyed our second visit very much.

Spectacular location, quite, surrounded by nature, private sandy beach, clean and sensible accommodations. Owned and operated by a Mexican family who have lived on the land for generations, a rarity these days. A short trip by car to the village of San Pancho, but an even better walk through the lush jungle. Lydia and her sister are gracious hostess who love their work and home. The surf can be intimidating for the timid or careless swimmer, exhilerating for those with the skills to ride the surf. Excellent place to take small children. The huge palapa overlooking the ocean while swinging in the hammock and sipping a margarita is my idea of heaven.

I have stayed at this property a couple of times previously, and planned to bring a group of friends to stay in March 2022. We confirmed all of our rooms, had a personal email confirmation twice to make sure they had dates and rooms correct and then two weeks before we leave we just get an email saying that they accidentally double booked our room and they can give us a different one (which we don't want) and did not offer any kind of discount or apologies.
This place is so poorly run. Unfortunately we will never be coming back to this place as they don't care that we are return guests or to make anything up to us for giving away the suite that we wanted (as all of our friends booked surrounding rooms and it is the room we always stay in).
Even if you get a confirmation apparently that doesn't mean anything and they will make your vacation stressful with last minute changes.
I would not advise to stay here as they do not know how to run a business at all.

If you are looking for a getaway this is the place. Sit under the large palapa overlooking incredible vistas of Pacific and beaches below. Lydia and her sister were wonderful hostesses. Short drive to town. A hidden paradise.

My husband and I prefer quiet vacations where we can feel connected with the land and the people. Bungalows Lydia was perfect for us. Our luggage was lost and plane delayed coming into Puerto Vallarta so we got to Bungalows Lydia about 11 pm via taxi. Mayte warmly greeted us and provided us with some snacks. We were so happy to be there! We stayed in the separate bungalow - open air with light breezes and wonderful view of the beach and ocean. Mayte drove us into town for food and introduced us to eating places. We loved San Pancho. A small town that embraces one. Walking about, people would say, "Oh, you're staying with Lydia." We felt at home. Once we got our luggage and our rental car we explored the area, but preferred just being at Bungalows Lydia.
I had booked us up in San Blas, but after one day we returned unannounced to surprise Lydia and Mayte. They warmly greeted us and tucked us back into our retreat.
One beauty of this place is that it will never get too busy due to its size, location, and the large property that it is on. People we met return year after year and some stay for extended periods. Surf can be rough so swimming needs to be done with caution, but they have made a 'natural' pool in the rocks. Beach is pristine. The nearby town has some wonderful restaurants and shopping.
I highly recommend Bungalows Lydia for people who revel in nature and quiet and who will appreciate the kind natures of the two sisters.

This is such a beautiful spot which we first discovered by driving around and following the well-posted signs which led us to this enchanting property. We loved it so much that we've been back a couple of times, booking via email.
Where to start: amazing views with awesome empty beaches on either side. We stayed in a little house, with one large bedroom which I think could have slept four (we were three singles), a lovely tiled bathroom overlooking the palm trees, and a huge patio with dining table, kitchenette, lounge chairs, and... the most magnificient view of the Pacific Ocean.
It's a short drive from little town which has some great restaurants. The owners are absolutely warm and charming. Not at all invasive, but there is you need them. We spent a couple of days kicking back, and just around sunset, they fixed us a pitcher of marguaritas, and snacks. Brilliant. They cooked us a super meal upon request, and we were lazy and asked them to fix breakfast for us too. Eggs, fresh fruit juice, coffee, and so on.
I thoroughly recommend Lydia's Bungalows, and can't wait to go back there. I've been all over Mexico, and never found such a paradise. A real jewel.

We stayed at Bungalows Lydia for a week in early February. We had a lower casita that was spacious with both a queen and single bed. The casita had a basic kitchen with a small stove, sink, refrigerator and basic cooking utensils, although we never did any cooking ourselves (when you can get delicious street tacos in town for 80 cents a piece, why bother cooking!). From the beds we had fabulous views of the ocean and coast to the south, and from our patio on the opposite side of the casita we had views of the secluded beach and coastline to the north. The weather the entire week was amazing-cloudless, warm days, lovely breezes and cool nights. The long, wide beach to the south, which you can access via a flight of stairs from the right side of the main house, was mostly empty everyday. We pretty much had it to ourselves. In fact for most of the week we were the only guests at the Bungalows. The surf at the beginning of the week was fairly calm, but it did pick up toward the latter half. Swimming is only for someone familiar with the ocean and who doesn't mind it a bit wavy. Once you get past the wave break, the water is great for just floating.
Days and nights were filled with the sound of pounding surf. Sunsets over the ocean were beautiful. The town of San Pancho itself is charming, friendly, and very low key. There are a couple of good higher end restaurants, but the really the best food we had was in the small street taco stands. We also loved Ceci Bon Cafe, a new addition to the local restaurant scene. The cafe is open for breakfast and lunch. Her red chilaquiles are fabulous.
We highly recommend both San Pancho and Bungalows Lydia. We cannot wait to return. Oh, and a warning about Puerto Vallarta airport when you leave-it is a zoo. Long lines. Every bag (both checked and carry on) is opened and checked. Make sure you allow yourself plenty of time.

This was our second year to escape to this beautiful out of the way spot. The town of San Pancho is a reminder of a more innocent time in the past. Kids play and ride their bikes with no fears. The people are warm, trusting and friendly.
Three miles out of San Pancho (thru the jungle) is the home of Lydia and her sister, Mayte. It sits high on a point with private beaches on both sides. The surf is wild and the beaches pristine. The bungalows are basic, clean, large enough for 2 and come equipped with bottled water. The palapa is a great gathering spot to watch the sunset, cook some fish, nap in a hammock and meet your neighbors. We stayed 10 days and they flew by....it is our home in Mexico. See you next February!

+1
We loved Lydia's! The view from our room was breathtaking - exactly like the photos. Yes the surf was loud at night, but after a couple of nights we loved it! The room was clean, basic and the right size for the 2 of us. We didn't spend much time inside however, as there was so much to do and explore in the area. The beaches were beautiful, but a little too rough for swimming, although they have made a wonderful natural pool in the rocks. Be careful when you go though; avoid high tide. We explored the jungle roads, and although it was a 5km walk into town, we didn't mind it. We often got a ride from fellow visitors, locals or Lydia! We managed fine without a car, although if we were there for 2 weeks, we would probably get one. The cab was only $5 from San Pancho. We didn't cook much in our room, although we did use the bbq in the palapa area one evening. The restaurants in San Pancho were very good, and going in to town in the evening was always fun! San Pancho is a wonderful sleepy village with a great vibe. We found everyone really friendly and helpful, even with our "caveman spanish"! We will definitely go back to Lydia's for a laid back and relaxing holiday.
