I wish I had read these reviews first, but I was desperate for a place to stay on a holiday weekend! When I arrived, I was told the rate was $58, not the $48 I was quoted on the phone. It was a holiday weekend (Independence Day weekend), and I felt stuck with staying here … but I did insist...

I have stayed at the hotel many times in years past but stop using it due to run down state and lack of care. It was owned by a local man for many years and he had a restaurant next door. When he retired, the hotel has changed hands many times and the restaurant closed. It is sad to see...

I have stayed at this hotel in the past & do not remember it being as awful as it has apparently become. I need to warn travelers about what they're getting into. The room was disgusting! I was sure to let the proprietor know this as I left. We decided not to take a shower due to the large amount...

Paid $54 a night passing through. I was grateful for the cheap rate in a little place that only has this as a place to stay. As for the room? It's old, not very clean and the wifi is sketchy at best. It appears the motel is used for workers on the road and weekly rates for the methies. It...

Stayed here with my husband during a weekend getaway. The room was comfortable and clean and the town very peaceful. The owners were very nice and helpful. Much better than staying in crowded and noisy Boone but yet close enough to drive. Will definitely come back to this beautiful town.

This place has seen much, much better times in years gone by (shown in the property picture). It would be so nice to have (1) soap, (2) shampoo/conditioner, or even just a (3) cup! Being nearly the only non-B&B lodging in town and the only one accessible on the main US route through town, it is a shame that it...

Stayed at the Mountain Empire Motel for one night last weekend of March ~ very pleased with the way we were treated at check-in. Rate was lower than expected, and value for the room was excellent. Front desk agent did everything we asked, including our pick of what section we would stay in, and we got a nice peaceful, quiet,...

I came in the room, the smell was so bad that I had the door open hoping it would air out. No luck. I went into the bathroom an what do I see? A roach. Then another on the trash can. I tell them. What did they do? Put me in another room. I don't smoke so where did they...

“If this is the ONLY available lodging late one winter night and you must spend the night in Mountain City due to dangerous weather, ask at least for a room at the back of the property, far away from the highway.”
