Stayed for one night recently for our anniversary. We enjoyed our stay, our room and bed were comfortable, but we found a dirty face washer hanging behind the bathroom door and the coffee cups had recent stains on them as though had not been washed properly, and the toilet dripped. Reception staff were not very friendly. Breakfast was average but the staff in the eatery were lovely and very helpful. Probably would not stay here again, would try somewhere else next time we plan a Yarra Valley stay.

Pleasant but certainly not 5 star. Room was grubby (dirty grout/curtains/coach) required maintenance (tv not working/toilet door not closing) the pool was dirty (green powder on bottom) Woken by housekeeping when we had late checkout. The bed was comfortable but as two pushed together it was very uneven. Not worth the price tag as I would rate this place 3.5/4 star at best. Nice views, reception staff very nice, breakfast waiter and breakfast food was good.

Our experience with this “award-winning, upscale” establishment on my wife’s 5-day birthday trip: 1. Discovered an active carpet beetle larvae infestation in room 206 (Rohan building) upon arrival. I used the remainder of supermarket inspect spray can that was already in the room. Advised reception. No one came until the second day - spoke to house keeping lady, advising her of the same and that I had seen around 10 live bugs so far, as well as clear signs of carpet damage across the edges of the room, and that it requires professional pest control treatment. The lady just nodded, kept saying “yep, yep, we will get the manager to have a look”. We left for the day and came back to edges of the carpet vacuumed and another can of supermarket spray left in the room. No sign of pest control treatment and no one spoken to us about it. I had to use the whole can of that spray across the edges of the room as we kept finding a couple of live bugs per day for the remainder of our 5-day stay. We also had to keep our belongings in the suitcase elevated on chairs so we didn’t end up bringing these bugs home with us. 2. Stained towels on 3 separate occasions. First time looked like food or faeces. Second time was when my wife got out of the shower, on her birthday no less, and discovered what looked a lot like pale period blood stains all across her towel. I was too frustrated to take a photo and just took the towel to reception where ignorant lady asked if this towel was fresh or used. I just asked if house keeping could at least check the towels before they put them in rooms. 5 minutes later the same house keeping lady (see #1) came with two towels. No apology, no nothing, just a smirk on her face like she’s was doing me a favour. One of the towels she had brought had yet another set of stains, this time light blue. I took a photo of stains this third time. 3. Consistently stale fruit salad from boxed breakfast. 4. 1 hour wait for main meals at the restaurant. Which almost seems like not worth mentioning given the first 3 points. Only happened on one occasion and we preferred to not go back. Floor (and subsequently the kitchen) looked understaffed and poorly managed. We had to wait outside in the cold for about 5 minutes before one of the staff came over to sit us down. They did notice us immediately, they were just running around, attending to already seated guests. Check out the photos and judge for yourself. I understand that customer service doesn’t exist in Australia and I usually don’t expect much, but this establishment takes it to the next level. And to whoever at Balgownie is going to be reading this, please don’t bother replying with stock-standard “we are sorry, thanks for your feedback” nonsense. If you take any pride in your management role, you will use the above to take a good hard look at your processes to ensure future guests leave your establishment happy, refreshed and not frustrated.

We had booked to come and stay here 12 months prior and were really looking forward to the trip until Covid reared its ugly head & we had to cancel. We promised ourselves to rebook at the earliest opportunity. We had a reservation for 2 nights over the Easter weekend. We were both quite disappointed with the manner in which our issue with lack of hot water was handled on our final evening. When returning from dinner on the Saturday night we discovered that there was no hot water in the apartment. On contacting reception, we were advised to wait 10 minutes and try again and if no hot water, then we were to contact reception again. After waiting approximately 15 minutes we tried again but still no hot water. We called reception twice, but the phone was not answered. I then walked down to reception to speak directly to the receptionist. Although an alternative room was offered, after a long tiring day and as the time was now approximately 10pm, we declined. Packing our bags to move to another room was the last thing on our minds at such a late time. The following morning, we then had to use a different apartment to shower prior to departing. We believe that the situation could have been handled in a much more efficient way. When we were told that there was no onsite maintenance , a 10 minutes wait was pointless I followed up with an email to management but am still waiting for a response. Very very poor customer service. On a positive note, the spa is very good indeed.
