I was going to Nashville for a couple of days over July 4th weekend. Most hotels were at a premium, so I stayed at the Drake to save a little money. It's a pretty charming place as you drive in. It feels like you drove right into the 1950's.

If you need a place to put your head it's fine. It's not the cleanest place in the world, know that going in. It's not the kind of place to bring your family either. It's a bed, a TV, a small fridge and microwave, and that's about it. No bugs, hardwood floors instead of carpet, the mattress was firm and comfortable. Sheets seemed clean too.

So if you need to save a little cash, and need a bed for the night, The Drake will suffice.

Although the room was spacious, it had several faults that we found unsatisfactory.

The bathroom door didn’t shut properly, without having to lift it, which was impossible for my partner.

The heater, though efficient, was very noisy.

The mattress was very hard and we only had one pillow each. The bed only had one sheet and a light cover, which meant I was cold all night.

The tap in the bath dripped continuously, and there was no shampoo available.

We are from canada and have been coming to nashville twice a year for 15 years. I always stay at the drake. Yes it is in a seedy neighborhood and yes there is prostitutes and strange characters but it has its history and own charm. We always get room 117 which is the jacuzzi room and is on the parking lot side. As long as you are aware of your surroundings and dont act like an idiotic and closed eyes tourist you will be fine. The staff is great. The housekeeper "Freedom" is an amazing woman who is always there for us and we consider a friend. As long as you arent timid or need to be a paris hilton type of person this is a great place to stay. Bring your guitar if you have one and by the time you leave you will have a story to tell. Yee haw. Mike and domi

They have the wrong address up and after pulling into someone’s yard an hour a way. I called to hear that the address was incorrect and it happens all of the time. I had booked on the way to the hotel so 1 hour later I cancel and they still charged my card and refuse a refund. This is a scam artist not a hotel.

Probably the most disgusting room I have ever seen. Once we checked in we went to the room to discover cigarette stained bedding and mold spores growing on the shower walls, you could put your fingers into the wall. When I asked for a refund I was told no and had to plead it then took days to get my refund.

With much reluctance going through the review it was a hard decision to choose this place. We were assured by the reception staff telephonically before arrival, that the rooms are much better than the reviews given. On arrival we were made to wait till 4 pm, for the room allotment. The room had cigarette smoke smell and our doubts were confirmed by a peep under the bed, to discover cigarette buds. The place was full of dust and cockroaches everywhere. I called the front desk to show the filthy place and a staff came and apologized me, same time a cleaning lady came there and yelled at me for informing the front desk regarding the unhygienic condition of the room. We stayed total of 4 nights. The surrounding place is very scary and plenty of homeless, drug addicts roaming around. We were scared to go out of the room for morning/evening walks. The staff needs training in soft skills. This review is being written for people to avoid this place and choose a better place to stay in Nashville.

Drake Inn getting some remodeling done on exterior. Should be nice. Looks a little tired from the front but service staff was excellent!! Madhu at the Front Desk was outstanding. She was personable, professional and friendly. She assisted with local information and her favorite restaurants near by. Tee & Jimmy on the maintenance/engineering team were quick to respond to some minor quick fixes. Very comfortable room and a great bed for a good night’s sleep. In room jacuzzi was a real bonus for a weary traveler. Looking for a no frills but clean, comfortable room, this is a good spot. Very convenient trip to airport.

As a solo traveller from Ireland on a budget this ticked all my boxes. Handy to the airport and to down town by good local bus routes ($4 for a full day pass on a great app). Good value room for 3 nights. Clean and tidy although showing its age a little. A lot of history with many famous visitors over the years. Work ongoing to improve the look and facilities of this iconic motel. Staff were friendly and helpful and Maneesh was kind and flexible enough to allow me a couple hours on my last day to check out late. Thanks for adding value to my Nashville trip, much better than the sparkly generic expensive hotels available.

Decent room. Nothing fancy, but gets the job done. We didn't encounter anything that was bothersome or concerning. Bed was comfortable, rooms were a good size. Staff was incredibly friendly!

Would definitely stay again.

We are an AUSTRALIAN family who spent 6 weeks holidaying in the US, this wasn't our first time in America and we thought we'd seen everything, stayed in the worst hotels and had weird and wacky experiences...but there just isn't the words to describe the Drake. Straight up I want you to know that this account is true and still a dinner party story we are still telling :) We arrived very late one night after finding it in a voucher book. We had a motor home and managed to scrape it into the car park ( and I mean scraped! after the guy at the desk told us it would fit easy under the arch). Even tho we rang ahead earlier in the day and was told we had a good room it definitely wasn't what we got when we arrived. While opening the door to our ground floor room on the seedy side of the property, 5 blinged out DUDES on the balcony above us were doing what looked liked a re-enactment from Pulp Fiction, complete with over sized gold jewellery, top hats, puffed out lips, turkey neck head jerking and monotonous crap ( sorry RAP) music, which by the way, never let up for the next 9 hours! Nothing could prepare us for the filthy pig sty that greeted us when we opened the door... you know that moment when something you are looking at feels like a bad dream and you just stand there staring with your mouth hanging open ? I just realised that all those times when I was a kid living in the country in South Australia and my dad use to take us all to the tip and we'd fossick around looking for bike bits and you'd come across some old filleted fish or a dead dog and the stink got up your nose and made your eyes water.......well that was a luxury moment compared to what was waiting for us..... huge gouges out of the thread bare carpet complimented with fresh blood stains, blood spurts up the walls, cigarette burns covering both bedspreads, boot holes in the bathroom door, a TV from the dinosaur days which didn't work, phone not working, socket and wires hanging from the wall could have had something to do with it...filthy fridge which had a vile smell of vomit when you opened the door and a general smell of sex grog and rotten sausage rolls :) The bathroom was past description ans I think the highlight was when I went to the loo and something dripped on my head and when I looked up there was a huge hole above the toilet and water dripping, bloody hand marks over the ceiling obviously by someone who frequented it ( perhaps to visit the dudes upstairs). I go outside to have a smoke, thinking about the next move in this bad dream I'm having and a guy in a Lincoln pulls up and asks me my price.... 2 guys across the road in front of the bottle shop are going 5 rounds with empty grog bottles, cops comes screaming into the drive sending the turkeys upstairs scattering.... after a few tense negotiations with the ridiculous staff in reception we get another room, just as bad but they'd made a better attempt to clean up the blood. No sleep, we weren't game. Hookers running up and down the stairs all night, cars pulling in and out constantly, dudes yelling, fighting, cops sirens....why didn't we leave? It was 2 in the morning, no one had parking for our van, we'd been on the road 17 hours and the cops were there so many times that we felt like family. Next morning a taxi driver tells us that it is a regular occurance for a dead body to be impersonating a speed hump in the drive way! When I read the other reviews which gave this dump a glowing report I just laughed, obviously relations of the owners or friends of the staff.. Yes the facade looks 50's but there's no evidence of musicians or anyone famous staying there....the tiny reception was dirty and the staff arrogant and rude, they obviously know exactly what goes on there night and day. Advice? don't pay with a card, they tickle it as soon as you drive out.

Dan R asked a question Aug 2017
New York City, New York
What time is check-in?
Answer from
Nashville, Tennessee
Check In time would be around 2pm. I know that might be quite late due to business picking up during Weekends or Tourist seasons (such as CMA festivals). It gives them time to prep reserved rooms. Checkout time is 11am the following morning. If you were a Traveller from out of town you can request a late checkout. If you alert them for the early check in via phone before you actually arrive you might have room right on the spot.
Answer from
Nashville, Tennessee
I once walked from Drake to Downtown then Downtown back to Drake. The estimate walk time would be between 30-40 minutes. Just like all cities just make sure you travel through the daytime with a companion. If you plan to be Downtown like most until 3am in the morning then get a taxi back to the motel. Hope this helps.
Cindy K asked a question Jun 2015
Big Bend, Wisconsin
What is your pet policy?
Answer from
Nashville, Tennessee
If you're a traveller from out of town they normally don't reject if any animal. As long as you state in the reservation via online or phone call they should be alerted. If the pet was for medical or handicap reasons then no questions asked.
